  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:31 PM) Moncada homer on 10th pitch of ab against Medlen. 6 for last 39...but seems he is back to normal with two walks as well. #7. His approach is so, so impressive. Obviously that's part of what makes him the best prospect in baseball, but man, it's so exciting to see someone with his tools really make pitchers work.
  2. HR for Moncada. I can't wait to see him leading-off every day for the Sox.
  3. Feels like Collins has been slumping forever yet his OBP hardly budges.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) I'm so f***ing sick of Melky. He's such a mediocre player. -20 fielder with a slightly below average bat? No thanks.
  5. I'd be shocked if Melky's next team plays him anywhere other than DH.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Wasn't Hosmer out of high school? He was. I just went went through the last 15 drafts and the *only* college 1B (taken in rd1) I can find that's had any type of career is CJ Cron. Nick Swisher was apparently drafted as a 1B but he obviously ended up playing some OF in the majors. edit - Correction. I somehow skipped over the 2008 draft. Smoak, Alonso, and Ike Davis are all college 1B's taken in rd1. But all 3 have had fairly uninspiring careers to this point, and it's taken 9 years for Smoak or Alonso to finally look like productive players.
  7. Given how open the Sox were about valuing college production and (seemingly) higher floor players in last years draft, it seems so strange to me that they could be going back to to the well for another high-risk/toolsy player like Kendall.
  8. Even if he's 2B only I'm surprised he was able to make it all the way to the Sox.
  9. Picking 4th if the season ended tonight. 4 games behind Philadelphia for the #1 pick, 3.5 behind San Diego for #2. Winning 2 of 3 against San Diego in May could end up having significant ramifications on next years draft.
  10. Another HR for Adolfo.
  11. Chris Beck being a competent reliever is not something I expected.
  12. Only 1 K for Lopez out of 24 batters faced is very odd.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) 2B Danny Mendick hitting .296/.385/.493 at W-S, good for a 142 wRC+. Was name-checked on Fangraphs' fringe prospects a few weeks back. Old for the level, good for a promotion I would say. Slightly OT, but Carson Cistulli's track record of finding undervalued players on the fringe 5 is very impressive.
  14. Sounds like a Chris Sale rehab start. Very encouraging to see.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Hostetler was talking at Soxfest about these huge swing and miss guys with 1st round talent. He said 1 in 5 make it. Hawkins wasn't the 1. Definitely something to keep in mind when thinking about the Sox supposed interest in Jeren Kendall.
  16. Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, & Dunning sounds like a pretty good future rotation to me. What an exciting day of pitching probables.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Snell is not a pitcher likely to get Moncada out of his slump Durham's lineup looks very good. This will be a nice test for Giolito as well.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) FIFY. You want Q to be good to move him, but the majority of a rebuild is still run through the draft. Agreed. I want Q, Frazier, Kahnle, Swarzak, etc to all do well so their trade value increases, but ultimately it's for the best if the Sox are picking as high as possible in the draft. A 1-0 loss with Q pitching a gem tomorrow night would be perfect.
  19. Robertson's stuff was brutal today. It is very strange how often his stuff fluctuates between dominant and mediocre.
  20. That's such a brutal hop. Nothing Yolmer could do about that.
  21. Definitely looks like ball hit the bat.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) I would trade Avi in a second. Wonder if other teams are buying this start. I'm in favor of a complete teardown.. but he's one player I'd lean towards keeping. But him being a FA after 2019 does complicate things.
  23. Top relievers in MLB by K%: 1. Craig Kimbrel 53.3% 2. Tommy Kahnle 50.0% 3. Kenley Jansen 47.1% http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=0&sort=7,d
  24. The Sox are going to get a very nice return for Kahnle if they decide to move him.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) Should never take a closer in the first round of the draft On draft night last year they were in contention and I think the plan was for him to be up before the end of the season. It was a bad pick then and looks even worse now that they're in a rebuild.
