  1. It'll be interesting to see if Covey can maintain the velocity he had from his last start.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) .... really? Obviously Giolito is a *much* better prospect but I'm very interested to see how Cooper gets on. A 1.39 FIP in AA is just ridiculous.
  3. Wouldn't have guessed I'd be more excited for Matt Cooper starts than Giolito when the season started.
  4. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 18, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) No one is forcing him to do anything. He is substandard defensively at second...no where near as good as Sanchez or Saladino. Scouts have suggested that his skills might be better suited to CF. A few of us fans would like to see him simply try CF because we see what the scouts have noticed. Moncada has the speed and arm to play CF while his defense at second has been lacking. Another way to put it is this - Moncada's quickness, speed and arm strength, would be maximized as a CFer. This feels similar to when the Reds initially tried Billy Hamilton at SS. My guess is the Sox didn't want to make significant changes to his development their first year after acquiring him. Let him play his preferred position and focus on improving. If he struggles defensively after being promoted I could see the Sox transitioning him to CF next year.
  5. Teams are definitely willing to pay a premium for relievers at the trade deadline. The fact the Yankees were able to get Gleyber Torres (and Billy McKinney!) for ~2 months of Chapman is absurd. But Robles for Robertson isn't happening.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 18, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) Said it in another thread... wouldn't be surprised if this team went 10-30 or worse in the next 40 games. The tank is on and gaining steam. Fangraphs still projects the Sox to finish with the 2nd worst record in baseball. That's without factoring possible trades of Quintana, Robertson, Frazier, etc. The tank is most definitely still on.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) With any luck, we'll get Benintendi'ed again this year... Do people think the Sox would have taken Benintendi? Fulmer felt like such an obvious White Sox pick at the time.
  8. The Sox would be picking 11th if the season ended today. 4 games behind San Diego for the #1 pick.
  9. I keep expecting Frazier to start turning things around and it's just not happening.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:54 PM) I know we are tearing it apart to rebuild but this is getting beyond bad Even with a loss tonight I think their record is still better than most people and all projection systems would have expected at this point.
  11. Trout currently hitting .344/.453/.748 lol
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:23 PM) Meanwhile, players like Aaron Hicks go to the Yankees and become All-Stars. This day/night has been a total disaster. Moncada on the DL. Fulmer blasted. Swarzak's luck runs out (ERA still a miniscule 1.37). Of course, it's hard to get TOO upset when it's Mike Trout doing the damage. He's pretty good. Well, Adam Eaton took a massive step forward with the Sox... and that's about it as far as position players go.
  13. QUOTE (reiks12 @ May 17, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) Astros fans on reddit saying their top 5 prospects are clearly off the table if they go after Cole. I can't think of a dumber fanbase I think all fan bases are relatively the same when it comes to things like this. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=19297
  14. Birmingham and WS are both well underway and getting crushed. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20170517 http://mlbfarm.com/index.php?team=CWS
  15. QUOTE (striker @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Quintana + Jones for Dahl, Rodgers, Hoffman, Almonte, Pedro Gonzalez. Here's Dave Cameron's response to your proposal:
  16. He's still striking out 20% of the time and not walking very much. The main difference between Yolmer and Carlos is 100 points of BABIP. Something tells me this won't be an issue.
  17. Zack Collins throws out another base stealer.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 15, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) Yes there were. Especially about Thompson and Ravelo. Did either of those guys *ever* appear on a top 100 list? Even at a fringe site? I know people were excited about Thompson after his debut in '15 but very few people on here were upset with the Todd Frazier trade.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 14, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) If the season ended today, we'd have the 14th pick. Today was brutal if you are someone that's cheering for the team to lose.
  20. Is Severino really *that* good defensively? His bat wouldn't be an upgrade over Narvaez and as a framer Narvaez rates as around average.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 14, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Who do they have left to trade us? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-20-pros...gton-nationals/ I'm not going to pretend to be a scout, but Juan Soto and Carter Kieboom both look fairly intriguing.
  22. Shawn Kelley imploded for the Nats today. Hopefully trade talks for Robertson start to heat up soon.
  23. QUOTE (juddling @ May 14, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Sox only score one off of Jered Weaver..are you kidding me?? He's probably the worst active SP in MLB, too. Even for a rebuilding team that's really bad.
  24. Very good day for Zack Collins. HR and 2 walks so far today.
