Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
All of a sudden, that Robin extension talk looks ridiculous. You can survive a bad week, but a bad fortnight is a lot of bad.

Jose Abreu...
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Like I said in the beginning of the year, he is the most frustrating hitter on this team by far. But people laughed at me The level of hostility on this board has been rough lately. The fact is, Abreu has been really bad. Bad enough to call into question this team's ability to succeed.

Marvel Entertainment Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) That answers the questin of super hero movies slowing down or not. Honestly, as long as Marvel gets about half of the super hero films right (which I believe it has more than exceeded that mark), they will continue to print money.

STOP LAZY JOURNALISM!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) I have yet to see Joe Maddon asked about the White Sox, nor have I seen Jake Arrieta asked about Chris Sale. Even if this were going on, it would legitimize this a little bit more in my eyes. That definitely has to do with the fact that "tradition" (for lack of a better word to describe weak journalism tradition) says that the Sox are supposed to care more about the Cubs than vice-versa. I wouldn't expect either team to care at all about each other. They're different divisions and most of them aren't from the area.

STOP LAZY JOURNALISM!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) It is lazy journalism, because the same members of the media will be the first to mock Sox fans for caring more about the Cubs than their own team after doing the same thing by asking these irrelevant questions. The mocking Sox fans is definitely lazy journalism. The focusing on Cubs success is somewhat borderline, IMHO. Cubs stories get eyes.

STOP LAZY JOURNALISM!
I agree. Today's media is just so lazy that most of it can't be considered journalism. That being said, can we start by admitting pitching wins are meaningless (because they are)? Chris Sale is having an amazing year, but pitching wins still don't matter. Instead of wins, we should focus on better metrics. See Win Probability Added.

This Era
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Easily the most talented, yes. I just dislike when people forget the past. Agreed 100%. Team winning (not pitcher wins) matters. Longevity matters.

This Era
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) Ted Lyons spent 21 seasons with the team and is a HoFer. Ed Walsh had the first championship for the team, designed Comiskey and had some of the most dominant seasons ever. Sale's in striking distance though. Pitching across eras is really hard. Harder than batting even, but it's really hard to argue with longevity with one team. If Sale has real post-season success, it's a no brainer. If Sale signs here past his current contract, it's a no-brainer when he reaches the late point in his career. However, if the organization fails to make the postseason during Sale's tenure and he signs elsewhere (the latter of which seems fairly likely), he'll trail the likes of Buehrle and Lyons. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's the most talented pitcher we have ever had.

This Era
Back on topic. Not only are you right about Frank and Sale among the best athletes in White Sox history, it's also interesting that each has had some misfortune when it comes to postseason appearances. Thomas made the postseason in 1993 and 2000 (also 2005 but wasn't available to play) and Sale has yet to play in the postseason.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) Slow day conversation. Quite possibly by the end of this decade Sox fans in their 30s or older can say they watched in person the greatest Sox pitcher and hitter of all time. Anyone doing anything special knowing that in thirty or forty years your grand-kids may be asking did you really see Sale pitch? Hell to expand it, Chicago fans, we've grown up with some of the greatest all time players on all of the major Chicago sports teams. Chicago sports fans in their forties have had the most good fortune of any fanbase (outside of maybe Boston) Chicago (mid fourties): Bears 1985 Bulls 1990-1998 (6) White Sox 2005 Blackhawks 2010 - 2015 (3)

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Lol - "the internet truly is a wonderful place", indeed! Here we have the White Sox who have made one and very brief postseason appearance in the last decade, are on the heels of three straight brutal seasons, and who have now been in first place for nearly a third of the season, and you say there's nothing for a White Sox announcer to get excited about. What a point of view. How quickly we forget the frailty of winning baseball.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) If the Sox want fans in the seats at a high rate they need a lot of we brought W's to the park night. Pretty much. If the Sox were able to establish a dynasty, they could theoretically change their situation long term.

QUOTE (harkness @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) I don't mind stone... but I can't say I've ever been amazed with his "intangible" perspectives. His ability to call pitches before they happen is truly excellent. He's an amazing analyst, and when he calls games with Jason he's like a new guy.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) Ya, the Cubs are the best team in baseball imo but Arietta is not the best pitcher. Kershaw has been, is and probably will be for some time the best pitcher in the game. Fair, but going back to last July it's hard to argue Arrieta isn't a valid "best pitcher in baseball". My particular problem with the "even better than Sale" crack. Chris Sale is a great pitcher that was (until this season) wasted on a bad team. It's not hard to understand why he was left out.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 19, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) It is just his cockiness and arrogance in how he states that the Cubs are undoubtedly the best team in baseball and Arrieta is the best pitcher in baseball, better than Sale. You don't like that he's telling the truth? Clearly the truth upsets you.

Guillen became Sox manager while "blackout drunk"
I'm not sure he's worried about employability at this point, but it is clear he needs to seek attention.

QUOTE (harkness @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Ahh k so Benetti doesn't get excited because it's early in the season...You know this how exactly? I also never said he didn't care - that is the presentation style. I more I listen I'm starting to not like him and Stone together that much. It's kind of like being at the movie but your friends are joking and not paying attention and you are trying to watch the movie. It's fairly obvious Jason is a professional and the Sox have done nothing to get over the moon excited about. The season is too young. Get back to me when he calls the Sox winning the division. Also, if you find the horsecrap Hawk spews out now "a broadcast" and you can get past the fact that Stone visibly dislikes Hawk and hates his antics. Hawk and Stone are like a movie where one person is trying to take the movie seriously and the other is trying to spoil it.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (harkness @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:29 PM) I guess a lot of you enjoy the type of announcers that put on the persona that they don't give a F*** about the game. Jason has some good qualities... but he sorry as dottering as Hawk can be at times I prefer his passion and the fact over the years he truly cares about the outcome. Jason is a lifelong White Sox fan. He cares about the outcome of the game. The difference is Jason has perspective. The reality is, there is no reason to get too excited this early in the season. Hawk's "passion" is played out and boring. He gets frustrated and upset by things a month into the season. Please save some of it for when the team is really accomplishing things.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 18, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) That team would be a mediocre in the Pacific League. Gross. That team screams first overall pick every year for half a decade. That's just awful.
