  1. Don't let Morneau beat you. Please. I honestly rather walk him every appearance, even with the bases loaded, then the embarrassment last time -- and simingly every series -- of grooving pitch after pitch to him.
  2. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) He didn't say they would kick the Sox's ass, unless you didn't actually read the quote. Completely different than your interpretation. I hope Guillen adopts a similar stance and allows other people to talk about the Twins if questions about them are asked. If anyone really does believe Gardenhire disrespected us with his comments, just think -- where has our Twins love got us recently? If there was one thing I could tell management about this series, from players to Hawk/DJ, is PLEASE scale back on the compliments, the nicknames, the supposed invincibility of the Twins at home and geniousness of Gardenhire. It's sickening. I'm glad not to have read anything this morning in the papers. I fully expected it.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) If we win 2, we clinch there. We'd have a 3.5 game lead coming home. That'd be true if the extra game against Detroit never had to be played. Although if we leave Minnesota leading 3.5 games it's all but over. We'd have to lose every game against CLE/DET and Minnesota would have to win all their remaining games. I'm one of the ten who predicts a sweep. I don't even have a great reason to support myself. Last week against Kansas City when the bases were loaded and Alexi was fouling off pitch after pitch I said to myself, "a grandslam is about the last thing I expect from the White Sox right now;" and that's exactly what happened. It's not a very good connection to make between a GS in KC and sweeping Minnesota, but what it taught me is what's expected isn't what always happens. I'll say this, though. If Vazquez pitches poorly I will have had just about enough of him in a White Sox uniform. I'm using this game, ignoring all others before it, as a judge of his character in one of the biggest games of his life. Considering how our players view the Metrodome and the abominable Twins, losing the 1st game will only resurrect the "oh man, we can't win here" attitude and all but guarantee a series lost.
  4. I can't criticize Guillen because every game this late in the season matters. I'd rather throw our starters out on short rest than a rested Broadway anyday. Sure, the end result of a loss would have been the same; but at this moment it's a question of who gives you the best opportunity to win? We can lose three straight in the playoffs with each of our starters giving up 8 runs, sure, but you have to get their first. And NO equation entering the playoffs should go thru that bum Lance Broadway.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) That's a little harsh. The guy is coming off huge back surgery. My god. Does anyone fully come off back surgery? If anything it was supposed to make his condition better and it obviously hasn't. I don't miss his popups, that's for sure.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) If we step back and look at this team objectively,we have to realize that injuries have just killed us,Jose Contreras,Joe Crede,Scott Linebrink and Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko battling injuries all season long...to lose your ace, your set up guy the sox paid big bucks to bring, your gold glove calibre 3rd basemen and your best hitter and MVP candidate, well it was too much to overcome.I know injuries are part of the game and the other guys gotta step up but how many teams can overcome them to their top players? Do we remember the same Contreras? He is better than our other 5th starter options, but don't call him an acne. The production from Uribe at 3B since Crede's absence, atleast in September, has been great. We haven't missed CHOKE CREDE. Linebrick's departure has made a difference since no one has filled his role adequately and about the entire pen has struggled. I'll give you that. Same with Konerko, although he hasn't been battling an injury "all season long." Neither has Quentin. With Wise, doesn't any else realize how good he has been? Look at Betsy's thread -- he has a 1.093 OPS in September. As difficult as it may be to understand, Quentin wouldn't have made much of a difference. Wise has done well filling in.
  7. What's with this WGN montage about Yankee Stadium with somber music attached? Do they believe people actually care outside of New York? It's obvious if history meant so much to the Yankees they wouldn't be building a new park.
  8. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) At least we gave it a run. Yet still lost. Funny how that works. And if you're getting at "oh, well it should provide momentum for tomorrow" we've seen lately how this team is with momentum. They can't put together a win streak.
  9. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Well at least we gave it a run. It would have been appreciated the first seven innings.
  10. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) So does anyone actually think we're going to do anything against Soria? In the whacky world of hte White Sox offense I'd almost expect them to do more against Soria than Davies. Or atleast show better AB's, perhaps have a few hits and maybe a run.
  11. If having Wasserman pitch and give up 5 runs means he is nowhere near the roster beyond this season (including a possible playoff birth) it'd be well worth it. Damn. Inning over.
  12. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) Swisher = Useless Did he take a break halfway to 1st base? I dont know how the hell someone such as Swisher, with SOME speed, doesn't beat that out. I'm guessing he left the box immediately thinking it'd be an out, noticed it was botched, then started hustling. Someone should tell him that's why you give it your all out of the box every AB.
  13. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) If Linebrink wasn't hurt for two months, the Sox would have clinched already. He was probably the biggest factor in the bullpen's turnaround from last year. Losing three mph of his fastball is everything for Linebrick. No one seems fooled by his changeup, or missing his fastball.
  14. It took our hitters 8 innings to realize Davies is s***. Nice going.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) He's pitched good tonight, in all honesty. Just enough control to not walk hitters, but around the plate to induce weak swings. Is he 7IP 2H good? Two f***ing pitches -- straight 91-94 mph fastball and a breaking ball that has hung half of the time it has been thrown. Nope. I'm not complimenting him. Santana? It's expected. Not from Davies.
  16. At this point I'm hoping for a GS. We're not going to win. May as well assure Thornton or Jenks don't find their way in because Guillen feels we can still win. Or he doesn't want to give the impression of giving up. Good, Richard is warming up.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) And that's a wrap for me. This would be a pathetic effort in April. For it to be Septemeber and playing like this with what we have at stake? Inexcusable. And please greg, don't post some dumb article about how much passion Ozzie has because he yelled at the team and called them out for tonight's effort. Big deal. I could do the same thing. And to add on, please, no one compliment Davies. It don't want to be disgusted anymore than I have been.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Nice hustle by Dye...turning a single into a double for Aviles. Pull the starters off the field. It's just funny how ALL these hits are seemingly finding their way to Griffey or Dye, who are turning them into XBH. No one is hitting it around Wise, who atleast has speed in the outfield. Seriously, how many hits this game have been hit to LF?
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) If the improbable happened and we choked this away, someone needs to lose their jobs. There is no reason what so ever that we lose this. Even with a loss tonight (2 1/2 game lead with 7, maybe 8, to play) even a mediocre team should maintain this lead. If we go 4-4 (Det makeup game included) Minnesota has to go 7-1. That's just a choke.
  20. Griffey actually showing some life moving at a moderate speed.
  21. Floyd isn't helping anything giving up jacks, but at this point, even if he were pitching a perfect game 0 runs from the offense doesn't win games.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) I think Tampa/Boston fans are praying they see us in the ALDS. No kidding. Davies dominating Seattle = Seattle laying down and getting their draft pick position solidified. Broadway may even defeat them if given a chance. Davies dominating White Sox = PATHETIC. I'm not giving him one ounce of credit. No "hat tipping" at all. This is Davies career game, and I don't even need to monitor him from this point on.
  23. Is Davies 6IP, 2H, 0ER good? No. His fastball is straight and his breaking ball is hanging half of the time. They're pressing against crap. It's embarrassing watching games like this when you KNOW Minnesota lost and you can put 3 1/2 games behind yourself and Minnesota. Are they obsessed with making that Minnesota series matter? After Yesterday I would have believed differently, but this is just bad.
