Dye better hit a HR, since he obviously showed confidence in his offense by catching the ball in foul ground.

Game Thread 09/07/08
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) I would say it was the "sound" baseball move, its like taking points off the board in football... but our team isn't exactly consistent and this Angels bullpen is pretty solid. Its a damned if you do, damned if you don't move... I didn't think we were going to strike against this bullpen twice in two days, so I would have taken my chances. I'm not angry with the decision Jermaine made If we're ahead, then catch it. If it's the 4th inning, then catch it. If you're in a tie game, against a good Angels team, with knowledge of Minnesota losing, in the f***ing 8th inning, you let it drop. Probability suggests he'll record an out, and I'm sure the numbers are still in the favor that with 1 out the runner doesn't score. Otherwise, if you're Dye, you better have all the confidence you're going to make up for it next time up. It may not even matter with the way Linebrick is throwing 90mph meat up at the plate.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) I'm watching the game on Angels broadcast and they think JD made the right play because if he let's that ball drop and the batter then comes back to hit a single and score 2 runs instead, they think it shows that it means you believe in your offense with all that power...Angel announcers keep harping on the belief that the sox can score runs in a hurry with the long ball, they are impressed with our power up and down our lineup. Well, he's up first next inning and he better make up for it by reaching base or hitting a HR.

I can't believe Dye bothered to catch it. It irritated me so much I had to long onto here and make sure I wasn't the only one. I hate this idea of "oh, what if he lets it drop and Anderson hits a HR." Well, that's a chance -- but you know, without question, if you catch it a run is going to score. There's also the probability he'll record an out which doesn't advance runners. At this point in the game, with 2 strikes and knowledge Minnesota is losing, I would have let it drop. Dye better hit a HR for the run he decided, in the 8th inning, we could overcome.

Republican Convention Thread.
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) BTW, how was the Obama interview on O'Reilly? I didn't hear anything about it, which is good for the Democrats. Problem for O'Reilly is Obama knows all the stories about him out there and has had answers in the bag well before the interview. It'd be different if there was something new on Obama, but it was probably more of the same. He probably figured going on an overwhelmingly conservative talk show that cators to a overwhelmingly conservative audience, there wasn't much to lose. Any slip up or stuttering would only be replayed on Fox News.

You can't even give McCain the benefit of a higher TV rating, which means absolutely nothing. Talking about spillovers and counting TV's which may have been turned off, haha. What's funny is after I read the original comments detailing the Neilsen ratings I knew someone, probably you, would find a fault in the ratings system. I was thinking more along the lines of "(insert poll) suggests more Democrats tuned into the speech than Republicans did for Obama." You've become the political equivalent of the frat-boy Cubs fan on this board. At times, very annoying. If McCain wins the election I'm going to have a fun time reading your responses.

Angels vs White Sox - 7:11PM Start
Mosely is a f***ing scrub. Don't embarrass yourself, White Sox. Anything less than 4 runs off of him should be considered a failure.

Why on earth Griff in CF?
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) If he didn't understand the significance of defense, why would he have played Uribe so much these last couple of years? Who else would have been our shortstop in the past if not for Uribe?

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
QUOTE (Baines3 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Here we are in the stretch run and this could really hurt us. The rest of the guys are going to have to pick it up a notch. I'd be more upset if it were one of our starters. There are eight other ballplayers to compensate for Carlos. If they fall apart offensively, it's going to be a choke in my mind. Swisher should do one of his crazy dancing antics to loosen everything up. Obviously they had offensive issues even with him, but if you're any of the White Sox players, your mindset has to be "this is the playoffs." Play with that kind of intensity.

Why on earth Griff in CF?
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) This may not seem logical... but I think it's because they believe Griffey will rise to the occasion. That a combination of pride, desire, and adrenaline will help him peak in this last month. And that they're banking on his experience and instincts in CF taking over as part of that process. Again... may not seem 'logical'... but if it works, I'd give KW and Ozzie bonus points for understanding how to tap into a player's psyche. He can rise to the occasion in LF. Or, how about he loses 20 pounds of ass/gut fat? It couldn't hurt his speed. I honestly believe Guillen just doesn't understand the significance of defense.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
Carlos is our best player, and obvioulsy we're worse for his selfish injury, but this is where the remaining players will have to compensate. Don't complain or whine. I don't even want to hear excuses if we miss the playoffs. You're 1 1/2 games ahead of Minnesota, and still have the remainder of the lineup. Man up. Who's to say he wouldn't have had a month similar to June (.266/.381/.849)? Obviously, even these numbers aren't bad and highlight his talent; but it's certaintly obtainable for Griffey. As others have suggested, this is where he needs to begin playing like a f***ing ballplayer. If he decides not to show up, perhaps two players can have stellar months and compensate for Quentin. It's possible. If we miss the playoffs it won't be because Carlos wasn't here. His absence can be overcome. If Griffey hits .250/.340/.790 in 95 ABs, which isn't outrageous, this comes out to 25 hits. In perspective, only FIVE more hits brings you up to .320. Obviously the difference in scoring opportunities/XBH/game situations will decide whether Carlos would have made a noticeable difference in the standings, but what I'm ultimately suggesting is it's not impossible to overcome this. It's not three months of Carlos' absence but one month.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Not sure I see the correlation. McCain had more viewers = media bias? Uh, no. The media bias is what made me surprised McCain had more viewers. I'm not suggesting a favorable view of Obama suddenly made everyone more willing to listen to McCain.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080905/pl_nm/...yof_aql6Lhh24cA WOW...I didn't think overcoming Obama's total was possible...I thought Palin was going to come closer... Neither did I. It goes to show the perceived media bias exists in some way, because otherwise, none of us would be surprised. We're all led to assume anything judging popularity/interest would favor Obama. Also, I recall an article through Drudge which suggests more networks carried Obama. Not significant networks, obviously, but BET was among them.

After McCain's speech concluded yesterday I stood and applauded in my basement for five minutes straight, only to stop to whipe tears away from my eyes. God bless you McCain!

9/1 Games - Labor Day

Hmm, I was unaware of this second base dilemma. Haven't been following the minors. Now I feel like a damn momo.

9/1 Games - Labor Day
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Oney Guillen 1-3 w/ 2B, R I know many probably don't care around here, but someone from the Tribune or Sun Times should write a story on this. Whether it's Williams signing his son in the 6th round, the Wilder fiasco, or talentless Oney finding himself in Charlotte, it seems to become more apparent every day something just isn't right with our system. I'm supposed to take the aforementioned points and somehow believe we'll do well developing Beckham, Danks, or any other player? It seems to me the lack of success we've had drafting and developing quality players fits in just well with how everything is run. It's ridiculous that Oney can find himself promoted three levels, obviously on nothing more than his daddy's name. If I were any player below him in the system I'd be insulted to have worked my ass off for years only to have some hipster dufus pass me up.

So... what are our options?
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) So if they want Fields/Broadway for Beltre, don't you think there's 5 other teams that will beat that package? They asked for Slowey, Blackburn, or Perkins from the Twins, along with another prospect. Their asking price will drop a little in the offseason, even though Beltre's on quite the tear right now (raising his value). If I were Seattle I'd say, at the minimum, any package should be worth the equivalent of a 1st rounder and a supplimental 1st round draft choice. This is basically what they'd have if they held onto him (assuming whichever teams picks him up doesn't have their 1st pick protected). It'd take Poreda + someone else. Likely more if we're competing with other teams. We can't afford this. There needs to be some pitcher within the minors with a ceiling higher than 5th/6th starter.

Swisher needs to do something crazy, such as jump up and down in the dugout, to reenergize this team.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) Can we get someone up. Whats the point in having the call ups. BTW if Swisher is going to hit like s***. I would rather have Anderson and his D out in CF over General Soreness and Kid Comic. Chat.

Richard is not anything but a temporary fix. I'm sorry White Sox, you'll have to produce a #5 starter better than this guy.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) Why does Ozzie hate BA? I don't know, but I knew from the moment Griffey's ass arrived playing time for Anderson would be even more sporadic. Just wait until Guillen begins throwing Owens into the mix. Then it'll really become aggrivating.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) So "Casino" is on right now. Probably seen it over 25 times. One of my favorites. However, I never realized it was based on factual events. After reading up on it, the scene where Joe Pesci gets beaten and buried alive was based off events that happened in Dupage County. If it weren't for me, every motherf***ing wise guy out here would want a piece....of your JEW ASSSSSS. I always look for an opportunity to include that quote in my life. That, and telling people to go home and get their shineboxes. BTW, right now I'm watching Tears of the Sun on FX. Powerful movie. I'm almost hesitant to change it for the Sox game.
