Soxtalk: A History
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) The admins and mods have talked about that before. Maybe it's a little geeky or morbid, but a couple of us have spoken with family members or friends who would post a message. I suggested posting mine in the filibuster so some people could cheer, and a few others could mention it is in poor taste to cheer until after the funeral. I think we should hold a yearly Soxtalk member Death Pool. That way we could celebrate someones life......but also cheer the fact their death has given us crucial points. I would select Hi8is. Every extended period between posts I'm almost positive he has died of alcohol poisoning.

No earthquake will take Obama off my television screen, it seems.

Soxtalk: A History
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) For most of the posters you mentioned, life got in the way. Some for happy reasons (children, new jobs), others for unhappy reasons (health, family). Hell, some of them may be dead. One day you, me, or anyone else here just may stop posting and it's possible no one will know the reason. And unless we're familiar with everyone's identity, it may go unnoticed.

Soxtalk: A History
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 12:16 AM) Who was the first to be banned? OldRoman, BMR? What ever happened to DonkeyKongero, CrimsonWeltal, asshatsoxfan (rattling off U of I people,) SuperSteve, Be Good, Queen Prawn, Capn12, and Spiff? I'm fairly certain Cluer was the first regular member to be permanently banned. For some reason it stands out in my mind. I also remember the infamous "Are You Gay" thread from 2003 claiming OldRoman/BMR. Don't know if it was their final bans, though. I've seen DK, CW, SS, Be Good post within the last several months. Speaking of departed members, I wonder what Brandofan is up to? There was a random moment several ago where I mentioned his name and received a PM from an unfamiliar poster basically saying "What's up Tizzle?" I replied, but never heard back. He knew baseball, but what I always loved about him was his attitude. I guarantee if he posted today he'd quickly become this sites most hated member.

Sox vs O's 6:05 CT CSN/WSCR
I really hope Poreda is brought up for September callups. I don't want to here anyone suggest "why bring him up during a pennant race11!!!" either. He's the pitcher with the greatest potential within our organization. I much rather him find innings than Lance Broadway.

Sox vs O's 6:05 CT CSN/WSCR
Ha, Lance Broadway is looking terrible. I'd agree with Hawk here that it appears he's just grooving pitches, but then I remember his lack of success in AAA -- where scrubs shine.

College
I've been going to Kohls for years and wouldn't consider anywhere else unless I wanted something specific (such as an Irish hat) that I know they don't have. It's awesome because I never have a problem finding anything. If I want a polo there will be one. If I want a sweatshirt or dress shirt it'll be there. When I was in high school, and following the trend of AE/AF, there was a 50/50 shot of finding clothes in my size. Worst comes to worst, I just go to another Kohls. There are probably four stores within five miles of here.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Iowa has some of the cutest girls of any state I've ever been too. I hate giving Heads credit, but its true. Wait, Iowa is still arond? The way Heads was shamelessly promoting the mother nature thread I just assumed all the rainfall created another great lake, and now everyone within it lives like Waterworld.

Sox vs O's 6:05 CT CSN/WSCR
I was surprised at how candid Hawk was yesterday during the short segment of the game I caught. He was talking about this feeling of his that we'll lose the division by one game. No talk of whether he thought we'd reach the playoffs, but it was surprising to hear. What disgusted me was what followed, where he basically conceeded the late September games against Minnesota in Minnesota. DJ commented that "we'll have to be three ahead entering that series" and Hawk is suggesting four. This is EXACTLY the type of crap I hate, and that we talked about at length awhile ago. This idea that is felt by Hawk/DJ, and no doubt the players, that Minnesota is an unstoppable force at home and "we just play bad there" excuses losing. It better stop, because you know that series will mean something. Oh, and with this game, I'm just going to assume it's a victory unless Danks implodes of the offense becomes HR swing happy. It'll basically be us beating ourselves. Baltimore almost seems like they're purposely trying to lose. We've had two of the same type of pitcher on back to back days, faced Cormier in Day 1 of the doubleheader, and now they're throwing this f***ing scrub at us.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Yeah I'm drunk on a school night, what are you going to do about it? Make fun of you for going to classes the first week of school. You'll have all semester for people to isolate you as the smelly, goofy looking kid.

8/25 Gm. 1 - SOX vs./@ BAL, 5:05 CT, CSN
Why the f*** is Pierzynski bunting? Getz is quick enough to attempt a steal. Otherwise, try a hit and run. We're wasting strikes. This is ridiculous.

You have Cormier drop two scoreless innings on your ass you deserve to lose. He was throwing junk up there.

Best Lunch Spots in Loop
QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) What about "boowbun chikn yummy yummy you trwy".I used to get a kick out off them they wouldnt let me get the free samples anymore because i would go there everyday. HAHA, YES! He's still there. You can always spot the out of towners when they're walking by and have to stop and look at the asian guy yelling. Nitetrain, you seriously consider that McDonalds a good lunch spot? The only benefit to that one, opposed to any other within the downtown area, is your food is about guaranteed fresh because of all the workers. Aside from that, the prices are ridiculous and I'm positive it keeps increasing everytime I go in. What's the name of the restaurant/bar that's located in the main hall? I've been there a few times and like their food

You Make the Diagnosis
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) this is bad idea t ask for a diagnoses. I speak from experience. Early last year, I was given some medication from my doctor that really messed with my stomach. Then I started to have odd symptoms and "normal' things seems unusual. I freaked out. I had myself diagnosed with everything from acid reflux to several deadly diseases including leukemia, pancreatic cancer, lymphoma, and who knows what else.. I had myself convinced I would be dead in less than 6 months. I should NEVER have gone to WebMD. In the end, it was nothing. The medication severely messed up my system, specifically my liver, and it took almost a 10 months to fully return to normal. I'm still alive and healthy, though WAY over weight. lol so, maybe not so healthy. lol This story reminds me of myself for quite awhile. When I was younger the eldest son of my mom's friend died of a brain tumor; in 5th grade a classmate died of a brain hemorrhage; in 8th grade a classmate died after complications suffered in an ATV accident; and as a junior in high school an old junior high friend died in a automobile accident. It's one issue to experience death from older relatives, but when people your age are dying it changes everything. There were numerous times I'd have a headache, or another ache/pain , and browse through my mom's nursing books only to confirm my suspicions of a dangerous disease. So yeah, avoid a diagnosis outside your doctor. I'm sure with WebMD, as any medical book, you'll notice the symptoms of every deadly disease include basic ailments everyone experiences. I'd hate to go to a website, put in abdomen pain, and come back with pancreatic cancer on one end; basic flu on another.

Best Lunch Spots in Loop
Aurelio's Pizza off Canal and Harrison St. is a favorite location of mine due to its location (within a short distance of UIC), sparse crowd, and great pizza slices for relatively cheap. I'm not a fan of the hundreds of other locations, with admittingly better food, where the process of waiting for a meal becomes a half an hour affair.

Memories of getting your ass kicked
Too bad JimH isn't around to entertain us with stories of when he has had his ass whooped. I've actually posted several months ago on Soxtalk, in an unrelated thread in another forum, the only occasion I've had my ass kicked -- it was by a random girl. Just as a quick synopsis, I walked into a random high school party with several friends one evening, and upon entering there was a girl sobbing in the corner. When I approached her and asked if everything was alright she snapped and began punching and kicking me. Gave me a nice bruise above my eye. Aside from this incident, which could have been different if I fought back, I've never been in a fight.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) i went engagment ring shopping this weekend. yikes. I believe there are three important questions: 1. Have either of you begun working at your career jobs? 2. Do you plan on starting a family? 3. How long would you wait between announcing the wedding and actual marriage? If it's more than a year than you're not ready for marriage. I wouldn't advise you to do this, because it's not typical and could backfire (since I don't know you, let alone this girl), but there's always the option of actually discussing marriage before handing her a ring. My parents were dating for six years, and knew they'd get married one day but neither had their careers set. They were also set on beginning a family, so their intentions may be different from yours.

All-Time Worst big-name players of the Sox history
Just based upon the title of this thread: "All Time Worst big-name players of the Sox history -- Their name outplayed their game," Griffey may have a permanent OF spot awaiting him on the original list. Look at his career, what he once was, what we expected (not MVP calibur numbers, but certaintly not what he's producing right now), and tell me that doesn't fit the discription. He fits the bill perfectly. Admit it.
