For the love of God people, don't talk about stretching out Carrasco, Russell, or MacDougal; searching the waiver wire; throwing Broadway out as the 5th starter; or signing Garcia. Do you want to lose? Poreda. Give him a damn chance, atleast. Three starts, like Richard. That isn't too difficult, is it? I believe he's our best option for replacing Contreras, even if he needs more seasoning. If he fails, then send his ass back down. And I don't even want to hear about ruining him if he does poorly.

Carmines vs. White Sox 6:05 CT WGN

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Frankly if Jose is out I don't see how you can avoid giving Garcia a tryout if he's got anything on his fastball. Sure, we can give him a tryout -- but I'd like to win ballgames and 86-87 mph fastballs from Garcia won't go far towards accomplishing that goal. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) Do we go back to Richard? I'll give it to Jose, he did bust it over there. I would hope not. Atleast give Poreda several starts. -

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread
Flash Tizzle replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I caught glimpses of the opening ceremony yesterday and was amazed by everything. Very well done. Especially the fireworks. I'd actually consider purchasing a DVD of it at some point because I don't believe anything will top it. -
2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread

OH HERRO ORYMPICS -
If someone had a gun onboard this may never have happened. Ha, no, in one of my undergraduate criminology courses there was a case study on an apartment complex where a sizable number of occupants (~15) witnessed the assault and eventual murder of a young woman. It occured at night, in a sparsley lit area. No one came out to help, and -- perhaps more astounding -- not one 911 call made during the time this crime took place. The overwhelming opinion of many was someone else would assist the woman or contact the authorities. What this suggested to me is, even physically distanced from a violent act such as this, people will think about their own well-being. I'm sure there are many more examples of people avoiding confrontation when, to someone observing from an outside perspective, more could have been done. In this circumstance, you have to ask yourself what is the most anyone could have hoped for? The attack was too sudden for anyone to anticipate it, so saving the victim is out of the question. Is it worth risking your life to fend off an attacker, in the closed confines of a greyhound bus, to save a corpse from being defiled?

All I have to say about yesterday's convincing victory is the dinosaur featured before the game was awesome. Complete with sound effects and all. The game barely matched its intensity.

Man, anyone else think that song "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab For Cutie is one of the strangest songs they've ever heard? It's almost an official stalking theme. Even the baseline intro and piano seems to fit the mood.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:24 AM) Kinda hard for a first place team to pick up a starter from a team ahead of them in the division. Ha, the point I intented to make was we'd have difficulty remaining in first place signing a pitcher Minnesota released.

Does anyone else believe if the Twins had a comeback like ours to tie the game, they'd go scoreless through the 14th inning and give up a two-run HR in the top frame? I wouldn't.

Wasserman is lucky -- far too many of his breaking balls have been hanging.

Wow. Bad.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Kenny's big flaw is going after guys year after year, even after their prime. Jr's bat is a nice addition, but his defense is center is fugly. Chat. Now. MIck.

What a joke Griffey is defensively. He couldn't even bend over for a ball. Hasn't done much offensively, either. But...but... I thought everything would turn around on the homestand?! How there is only one run on the board against Robertson is embarrassing. Especially with the opporutnities we've had. This isn't a team that looks like it should be in first place anytime soon.

I'm fairly sure Lake Michigan plays a significant role in the lack of tornados around the Chicagoland area. The cold pressure systems off the lake usually dominate the warmer air from the West/South and it prevents the circular patterns required for funnel clouds. There was a F4 tornado in Oak Lawn 40 years ago that many of our parents, if they lived around the south suburbs, probably remember. Haven't been any around here since, so they're rare -- but possible.

Heads, your constant attempts to bring relevance to Iowa has only made me wish for it to be annihilated by an asteroid. I'll accept whatever worldwide consequences occur afterwards.

QUOTE (th0mas35 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) How much worse could he be than Richards? He'd throw strikes...but more than likely give up many hits. Would anyone wanna take a chance and sign him? What kind of message is it sending to pick up on a starter the team youre currently trailing in the division doesn't want? That doesn't sound like a move a first place team would make.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) I almost feel sorry for Richard. My god have they teed off on him. There is no reason for him to throw another pitch for the big league team again this season. Next candidate, step up, son. Is it gonna be Haeger? I mean is it unanimous here that Richard cannot throw a pitch for the Sox again this season? He is brutal. I actually agree with you. After watching Richard since his first start I'll have to appoint him the title of scrub until proven otherwise. It's just another sad state of affairs for our minor league system, which really isn't a surprise. I'd rather give Contreras another rehab start, promote Poreda (he pitched today so he'd fit right into Ricards spot) and do whatever afterwards. I don't care about service time at this point. We're competing for a division and can worry about Contreras later in the event Poreda does well. Even if Guillen plays the "Contreras is a veteran with past success....and he told me he feels good!" card, Poreda would only be down in the minors until September.

How the f*** can anyone believe Carrasco wasn't attempting to throw at Olivo? Why, because the bases were loaded and that would defy logic? That's EXACTLY why he would do it. If it weren't intentional wouldnt you think, after the second ball inside, maybe Pierzynski would move the mit a bit off the plate? It's like when someone is plunked on an 0-2 count and DJ (usually him) suggests, "that's not what he wanted to do on 0-2." Why not? It's actually the perfect time as you can have an excuse later; the "why would I do that in a (insert game situation)" excuse. I know if I were Carrasco that's the time I would plunk someone. At the time of the incident we were behind 6-0 with Greinke dealing and the bases loaded. Ha, I can't believe people are falling for it.

What kind of sick individual creates a thread entitled "They Live" and doesn't talk about the movie? Well, I'm just going to hijack this thread and make sure we do. Did anyone else know the fight in South Park between Timmy and Jimmy was based upon the infamous fight in the film?
