The Internet Comes to Armour Square Park: Softball game article
Haha, what's with the physical descriptions of posters Pratt? Otherwise it was an interesting account of the game and both websites. I'm upset I missed Dougly more than anything else

Twins Love Needs To End
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) It's a little odd reading the game thread and seeing many bash Hawk and DJ because they are so complimetary of the Twins. The funny thing is that you predicted in the gamethread the Twins comeback in the fifth and also predicted the Twins expanding their lead after the Dye HR that cut the lead to 1 run. Your explanation was that it was "inevitable" IIRC. I will take a 4 run lead every game and I don't care where it's played but you definitely thought the lead was temporary. I really don't know what to make of this phenomena. You were doing just what Hawk was doing. Just as Hawk was calling it how he see's it so were you. Unfortunately you proved your point and so did Hawk , there's a lot about the Twins way of playing baseball to admire. I was not doing what Hawk was doing. I predicted they'd lose the lead even before the inning began because I had a sinking feeling something would go wrong. Is it coincidence everything happened as I said? Yes, and it goes more towards the belief I have that the players think more closely to us than we imagine. Like they're waiting for something to go wrong. We've al been conditioned to feel this way, and this is what I want changed. I'm not suggesting Twins lack talent. As I wrote in the initial post, it's intangible ideas we're talking about. Pitchers still have to pitch and hitters have to hit. I just feel, even if it does absolutely nothing on the field, this organizational love for the Twins and this feeling no lead is safe can't be beneficial for us. Especially with one series remaining. Is there nothing to be said about subconsciously acting in a certain way? Isn't that what home field advantage is all about, anyways? We don't need home field fans, in addition to everything else I've mentioned about the Twins, adding ontop of one another.

Twins Love Needs To End
QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Well in Danks' defense there's not usually a 10 minute break between pitches. Bullpen just didn't bail him out. How is that any different than the rest he might have following a 123 inning from the offense? I believe he had warm up tosses as well. The entire fan experience obviously rattled him. It just is incredibly frustrating to walk someone after all of what happened. As if you could physically feel the momentum change. It was about the point I realized we were setting ourselves up for a loss.

Twins Love Needs To End
Another terrible turning point is Danks having a 1-2 count on a gift strike that was awarded after a HBP, so what does he do but WALK HIM. To leadoff the inning! That's just inexcusable. As I said in the game day thread, put the White Sox in that point and you know we're not reaching base.

Twins Love Needs To End
There comes a point when you have to think to yourself, if the fans believe every lead is temporary against the Twins, and the announcers believe it as well, then what's preventing the players from feeling similarily? I know it's a strange subject because we're talking about intangibles and ideas that can't be calculated, but hearing all about the invincibility of the Twins from management on down to Hawk grows tiring. It's one point to give them credit, quite another to endlessly slobber over their talent and "never surrender" attitude. I'm tired of it. It can't be helping anyone. I just wonder how it affects players when they're up 4-1, the 5th inning comes around, and Gomez reaches with a single. Tell me, just from your opinion, that no one our team thought "here we go again! Those damn Pirahnas are going to win again!" The defensive miscues and wildpitches should prove some mental issues are present. What worries me is, Hawk is citing our troubles in this dome every half inning. "Some places you just don't play well in." Well, guess what -- we have three remaining games against the Twins in the same stadium late September. It may be the deciding series in the division. Something needs to chance. Tell Guillen to put a muzzle on. Instruct Hawk to remove himself from Gomez's .254 ass. Hell, I'd love to hear Gullen guarantee a series victory next time around in Minnesota. Just SOMETHING to show we're confident in ourselves. Yes, in past seasons dismissing the Twins didn't help; but as of right now, what we're doing isn't either. This team is more talented than past seasons, and we've shown in two games the ability to get an early lead.

Why IBB Morneau? Hit him and save three pitches.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) WTF , made a deal with the devil ? If we do mount a 9th inning comeback and lose by 1 I'm pm'ing you and asking for the California lotto numbers. Ha, it's not even that I'm making unlikely predictions. It just seems like certain things are inevitable, and that's why I believe if the fans feel a certain way -- so do the players. They all have it in their heads that everything and anything can go wrong at the Metrodome.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) That was an easy pick for Swisher. No, the speed of Carlos Gomez intimidated Swisher........to scoop up a throw.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) PK will hit a pinch hit HR in the 9th. As much as you (and Dick Allen) would like that to happen, it's just asking too much for him to 1. make contact off of Joe Nathan and 2. for it to travel far enough to clear the fences. Although if we're down 5 runs I wouldn't count it out. But if he's batting in a one run game? Hell no.

Please, Hawk. I'm begging you. Enough about Carlos Gomez. Look at the guys stats. He's nothing special.

Is this when our bullpen gives back the two runs scored this inning, and then in the 9th inning we'll mount a comeback and lose by one run?

7/31 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm CSN)
I want to know if anyone reading this thread that believes we have any chance of winning this game? It's almost as if we don't know how to handle a lead in Minnesota. Well, this s*** better get resolved quick because we'll have one more series at The Dome in September, and if it means anything we can't give up leads like this.

If you retire Mauer, you have to walk Morneau here. Even if Thornton doesn't I'd still consider walking Morneau. Have Young beat us.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Danks sucks. Typical White Sox pitcher. Liriano would have hit him again, but he would have swung because his pitches are so devastating.

I'm sorry, but this just irritates the living hell out of me. You have to be AN IDIOT to hit a player, have it be taken back, and then walk him. Yes, an idiot. Just throw some damn strikes.

If this were the White Sox, we'd strike out right here. Lets see what happens with the Twins.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) Its like we forget who we are pitching to. We pitch away from Mauer, who goes oppo all he time then we pitch into Morneau who likes to get around on the ball. Flip the strategy guys, it might help you. Chat, Mick.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) They be a f***ing Twins fan. f*** that. Quentin is having a better season than Morenau, and is two years younger. I am insanely jealous of a team that is behind us in the standings, didn't do a f***ing thing at the break, and has Adam Everett, Brenden Harris, and Nick Punto in there every day lineup. Oh, I'm already a Twins fan. Liriano is going to be here before you know it!

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Well it woulda been 4-3 whether he pitched to him or not. Thats not much consolation however. Morneau is straight nasty. It makes me jealous when I look at the pile of old we have in our lineup. He showed up this series and even our best hitters like Dye and Quentin didn't. Or atleast to the extent Morneau did.

personal internal conflict
Yeah, I'd think it would be your engagement. Griffey won't be here for long, whereas your marriage (hopefully) will continue longer than a year.
-
7/31 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm CSN)
What I don't understand is why we pitch to Morneau? At what point are you going to realize we'd be better walking them and dealing with the other hitters. Even if two runs would have scored on Youngs hit, he's killing us. It's f***ing embarrassing.
-

JESUS f***ING CHRIST. You just knew it was impossible not for Morneau to bat with runners on.

God's son Carlos Gomez couldn't believe someone dare run from second base on a single to him.

If we can't atleast score one we deserve to lose. And you know damn well the Twins will score in the bottom of the inning. It'll be on cue.

QUOTE (Soxman72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) They are going to keep Wise.....one less guy in the pen and even less playing time for Brian. I do not know how I feel about this. As of this inning I like it.
