Konerko BAD - Fire GOOD
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Yes it does. Booing Paulie would be the lowest moment in Sox history after all he's done for the franchise. I would hope our fans would not do that. I'm saying judging from the hate on here he probably will be booed and that would be bulls***. Yes that would matter. Wow, even lower than a certain event which occured in 1919? I'll boo him just to be a part of history!

Josh Hamilton Presents the 2008 Home Run Derby
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) The Cubs dealing Hamilton is not something to mock, really: they did it out of a sense of decency, if I recall correctly, because the Reds wanted him and they had Narron who had coached him when he was young and even works with the Rangers now to take care of him, and they agreed to send him to Cinci so that Josh could have a better chance at making the big leagues and staying sober. It was no more and no less than that. Yes it is. They traded Hamilton to the Reds, HAHAHAHAHA. f***ing idiots. I also want everyone to know I'll forget about this home run derby by 2:00 in the afternoon tomorrow, and Josh Hamilton by tomorrow night.

I agree it was impressive, but I hope ESPN doesn't over sensationalize this as the GREATEST THING EVER IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL!

Josh Hamilton Presents the 2008 Home Run Derby
Erin Andrews was almost eye to eye with Justin Morneau. Even without high heels (which I assume she's wearing) the broad has to be a good 6'1, 6'2. Damn.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) If I was ever lucky enough to hit a walk off homer off KRod, I would relish it and show him up as much as possible. How he acted today was very bush league. What I'd do is just sit down on the ground and watch it. Maybe stretch out and relax at homeplate.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) Give Jose a couple of more starts. You can say that his start in KC was a fluke because he was awfully pissed and pitched like crap. However, a defensive lapse in that game involving Konerko and Contreras himself seemed to be pretty vital in that bad outing. You can't really judge pitchers who pitch in Arlington. Ground balls turn into base hits in that place. Fly balls turn into homers. It's like playing in a dome with a wind blowing out. It did seem like Jose was throwing a lot of strikes and a lot of first pitch strikes. Point is however, is that the entire Sox pitching staff did that today and got clobbered. Tip your cap to the Rangers, they're not the best offense in all of Major League Baseball for no apparent reason. Guillen needs to be crucified in the media if he sticks with Contreras very long into the second half of the season. His fastball and forkball have become less and less reliable. We can't have these starts ever 5 days when Buehrle and Danks seem to be the only reliable pitchers as of late.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) Lost in the PK hate sure to come over the all-star break is that Contreras is completely unreliable. No, the difference here is about everyone realizes Contreras is unreliable whereas Soxtalk is still divided on the usefulness of Konerko.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) What did Wilson do? Raise his hands in the air. Nothing worthy of retaliation. Someone should retaliate against Konerko for being useless today.

Typical Konerko. Lets swing at the pitch out of the zone and watch the one down the middle.

Terrible.

What a TERRIBLE swing from Konerko. I don't care what Hawk says about the nastiness of the pitch. The other Sox players didn't seem to have a problem with it.

SOX @ Texas Rangers, 7/13, 2:05 PM, CSN, AM 670
You know Konerko was on deck hoping Thome would either end the game with a DP or score a few on a hit. Let's see what he does. It'd be a great opportunity for him to come through.

Konerko BAD - Fire GOOD
I had to post in here before Konerko's AB in the 9th inning. Here's the scenario -- 12-11 Texas, two on (1st/2nd), 2 out. The thread will go on two divergent paths depending upon his results. As Fathom suggested, it's going to be interesting either way for the next several days. Either he'll win/tie the game, walk or embarrass him......again.

Arlington is the new Oakland, atleast judging from this series and seemingly all the mistakes we've made and opportunities that have been squandered.

If you won the lottery...
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) 1) Everyone will know. It becomes public knowledge. I'd be hard to avoid it. I don't recall the specifics, but there are ways around disclosing your identity during the initial press conference (which is required for anyone winning the lottery). I'm sure it'll eventually get out -- especially when you consider the gas station where the ticket was sold is publicized, and people may become suspicious when someone suddenly is purchasing items out of their means. I've always had this idea that, if I couldn't get around remaining anonymous on my own, I'd somehow make contact with a rich individual (such as Donald Trump) and propose an idea that if he can locate someone willing to come forward both him and the mystery individual can have a sizable share of the winnings. I'm sure he'd listen. For example, if roughly $100 million were available after taxes I'd propose 40 million for person #1, 20 million for Trump and 40 million for myself. I'd have a substantial amount of money and (hopefully) NO connections to myself. What I'd do with the money is live well, but not extravagantly. To be honest, and this sounds terrible, but I wouldn't tell anyone -- especially friends or anyone outside my immediate family. I'd hate to question the relationship I have with a woman because she knows, through friends of friends, that I have money. Regarding family, both sides are rather large (Dad-- 9 brothers/sisters; Mom -- 8 brothers/sisters). When my paternal grandfather died in 1990 there were issues among some family members regarding his estate. Even if I gave everyone the same amount of money, I'm sure there would still be problems. And on my mom's side, there are several people who would only squander their money and then continue to ask for more. My big plan would be to construct a modest house (probably around $500,000), purchase a boat, and locate a vacation home around Lake Michigan or Lake Geneva. It's interesting that I haven't read anyone suggest what they'd do about work. Personally, I believe I'd still be a police officer somewhere. After awhile sitting around would grow old, and I'm sure people would be suspicious of how I could afford everything when I don't work.

You just knew this would happen. It'd be impossible for Contreras to have a perfect inning. This better be the last we see him this afternoon. Get Masset ready for the 6th, Ozzie.

SOX @ Texas Rangers, 7/13, 2:05 PM, CSN, AM 670
One disadvantage of having the game remain within two runs is Guillen will push Contreras to get through innings so perhaps he'll have an opportunity to win. If I were Guillen I'd remove him after the 5th, whether he throws a perfect inning or not. The Rangers didn't score 7 runs on accident.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) I looked up the toxicology report. Wow, I thought I was bad, that guy had a hard time falling asleep, eh?. Isn't The Road too futuristic/sci/fi ?? It's based off the pulitzer prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy (who wrote No Country for Old Men). I recall an article posted on Fark last week where it was rated as the best novel of the last 25 years. That doesn't mean it'll automatically be the cinematic equivalent of NCFOM, but from what I've read on the production, it's closely following the storyline. If the filmmakers capture the feeling of the novel I don't know how anything can compete with it. That's why I'm throwing all my praise onto this movie now. There's nothing within the novel that sets an exact time period, though. It's about a father and son traveling across America in a post-apocalyptic setting. Technology is nonexistent.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Two whole speeding tickets before I'm 21. Dumbest thing ever. I lucked out. New provisions in the punishment of traffic violations took effect January 1, 2006. About two months before I turned 21. Until then I had collected four speeding tickets in the five years I was driving. Two separate occasions, I had a speeding ticket less than six months after the first and had to enroll in an eight hour traffic course at Moraine Valley Community College. I would have been screwed now.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) He won the lottery several years ago. I read an article, and he says the victory has been a curse. If there's one idea which has been cemented in my mind from years of Sociology courses, it's winning the lottery will ruin your life unless you go to great lengths to hide your identity. Money changes everything -- particularly the relationship among family and friends. This isn't the place to discuss the topic, but all I can recommend for anyone who wins the lottery is to pay a substantial amount of money to secure your assets, hire a special FX company to disguise your identity at the press conference, and NEVER reveal your name. Ask the Whitetaker character whom won one of the largest lottery totals in US history how fame has changed his life. His grand daughter was killed because of the extravagant allowances he gave to her, which she -- in part -- spent on drugs.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) I haven't seen Batman Dark Knight yet, but there is already Oscar talk for Ledger. Let me phrase this tactfully, I find it interesting how artists (musicians and actors) suddenly become brilliant after their deaths. Especially if they died young and suddenly. Sometimes it even stinks of shamelss promotion. The Joker is such a great character to begin with, I'm trying to think if I've ever seen anyone play him poorly. Maybe all the hype is valid, but I'll wait and see for myself. People are afraid to publically criticize the dead. Everyone is glamorized. Except Anna Nicole Smith. Everyone laughed at that. I can't say anything about his performance, obviously, but Oscar-buzz generally translates well into a nomination. And if Heath's nominated, he's winning -- regardless of the competition. You just can't let a dead man lose an oscar, and all miss out on all the publicity it will generate! Let's not forget the potential heart-filled acceptance speech from, what I can only guess, will be his wife. She'll be welcomed to the stage by an uncomfortably long standing ovation. The cameras will include frequent shots of their daughter in the audience. Perfect drama for whichever network is carrying the Academy Awards. The Road will win Best Picture, too. I'm just throwing that out there right now and taking credit four months before its release.

Konerko BAD - Fire GOOD
I've just grown tired of looking at Konerko. He has been on this team far too long. If he left tomorrow I wouldn't care. Especially with Thome filling the role of slow footed slugger. We've seen what their capable of without him. More than enough players capable of hitting a HR in his absence, and the upgrade which happens both in CF (Wise/BA) and 1b (Swisher) would be beneficial to us. Even now, I understand there's a possibility he will rebound offensively. Although 2003 suggests he may not. It's just, when you begin to carry over your troubles to the defensive end then it becomes embarrassing to watch. Especially when it involves moving yourself a full two feet to the left to catch a fricken ball.

Some day, i want to watch Journey to the Center of the Earth just to laugh at the terrible special FX and (no doubt) horrible inaccuracies concerning the planet's inner core. Apparently, exotic plants (without sunlight), dinosaurs and a collection of other creatures exist down there. You can also survive a 10+ second drop into water. WE'RE STILL FALLING!!! hahaha. Brendon Fraser is really hurting for work between Mummy installments.
