Wow, and I thought we were choking. If we can't take advantage of this, Jesus Christ, I don't know what I will do with myself.

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox - 9/26

Good. Got two runs back. Now, for the first time in over four games, PLEASE don't give up anymore runs immediately after scoring. 1-2-3. That simple. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Are they choking, or just really bad? Choking. Please, anyone at this point who doubts it anymore is baseball retarded. Didn't we all just see Carrasco's inability to find the plate, then give up a meat pitch, and afterwards immediately throw two strikes; only to hit the batter? This has been seen across our pitchers, aside from Buehrle, and across our hitters, aside from Cabrera and Griffey. If it's not the offense, it's the pitching. If not the pitching, the offense. Twins are choking as well. I'm not ignoring them. Davis AGAIN pitched well. I'm beginning to think he's not as bad as previously thought; considering our pitchers couldn't get out MInnesota hitters and he has already K'd six. -

How many f***ing times this last week can we give up a run the inning after scoring? It's completely deflating. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 07:55 AM) 75-55 with CQ in the lineup. 11-17 without. Twenty one of those games were played after his injury. Since I don't know the circumstances of the other 7 games, I'll just look at the September games. His final game was September 1st against Cleveland. Of the 21 games, the Sox went 9-12. More importantly, against teams with records above .500 the Sox were 4-10. Three of those wins were at home. Dye/AJ/Swish/Thome/bullpen struggling have hurt us more than Quentin alone. -

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) A team that everyone had pegged for .500 or worse, third or fourth in the division, is hit with a bunch of key injuries late in the season, and falls into a tie for first with 4 games to go. The only explanation must be they are choking. OK sure. This line of thinking reminds of me people who say, after the White Sox lose the final game of a series in spectacular fashion (after winning the first two), "If I would have told you before the series that the White Sox win 2/3 you would have taken it." Yes, I would have; but expectations change as the games are played. If we're winning Game 3 by 5 runs in the 6th inning and blow it, suddenly, that accepting 2/3 games philosophy just doesn't hold up anymore. I don't know how anyone can cite the lack of confidence in the White Sox among fans preseason and compare it to now. For the first two months, yes, but after awhile -- when it became obvious this team wasn't last years -- the expectations should have changed. We began to anticipate winning games, and not merely be surprised by it; as we were in April/May. 2.5 game lead entering Minnesota with only ONE game needed to basically secure a playoff birth, and they couldn't even do that. Even after leading in Game 3, and the night before, having several great opportunites to pull ahead of Minnesota. Key injuries? What about these September statistics. How does Quentin and Crede's absence explain this: Swisher: .167/.233/.548 Thome: .214/.321/.736 Dye: .224/.290/.584 AJ: .197.243/.470 -

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 07:24 AM) You may be able to walk 400 yards after breaking a leg, but eventually it will knock you down and you will stop walking. If you mean by choking you are thinking of CQ, Linebrink, Crede, Contreras, Paulie, then you may have a point. And yesterday's game where we scored 6 runs? We could have had you in LF and it wouldn't have mattered since the Sox had a five run lead in the fourth and let it go. They choked. It's comical that anyone is arguing otherwise. Just admit it. It doesn't make you any less of a fan. Without Quentin they still have 9 players in the lineup. If Dye, Thome, AJ or Konerko were even mediocre this last week instead of embarrassingly bad this division would be ours. That's why you cant use this "Injures = suckage" formula. Honestly, who's to say Quentin would have even had a hit? I hate where this is going. Williams is going to use the smae exact argument as you about injuries and of course you and others will eat it up. Who f***ing cares if Charlotte took the field? They had a 2.5 game lead with a week to play and only needed one win the dome. A win which was more than possible in Game 3 even without Quentin! And let's not act like we were going up against Cy Young candidates. Both Baker and Blackburn respectively looked terribled; especially Blackburn who was hanging pitches on a Kirk Sarloos pace. Also, let's not forget that until about a week ago Wise was hitting the s*** out of the ball and being a damn good replacement for Quentin. As had Uribe in replacement for Crede. -

If I know my Soxtalk history, someone should be creating a "are you in or out" thread right about now. It always seem to follow the Animal Housde Bit. -

I honestly hope they boo them as well. If nothing else, just during the introductions. Or whenever scoring opportunities are wasted. I understand supporting them at home, especially since it's entirely possible to make up 1/2 a game with 4 left; but I sure as hell wouldn't be cheering them. For what, exactly? Choking away the division lead? f*** that. Earn our applause. Score five runs in the 1st and, here's a novel idea -- HOLD THE OPPOSITION SCORELESS THE FOLLOWING INNING. It's funny that the entire Twins series, whenever we scored (aside from the Griffey HR in the 9th inning of Game 1) the Twins have responded with runs immediately after. I made note of it before yesterdays game and, low and behold, it happened again. -
Late night chat. We're preparing the eulogy.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Ozzie was quite thoroughly outmanaged in this series too. I still don't understand why the lines weren't being guarded for Span's triple. Especially since Konerko was holding on Gomez and should have been close to the line anyways. The problem appeared to be that before the pitch was thrown he moved towards second base, then had to scurry his slow ass back towards the line to catch it. Obviously failing miserably.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Uh, Flash... this is your cue, sir...

What would drive me absolutely insane is if I hear either of the two points: 1. Quentin, Crede, Contreras would have made a difference. Even if it's true, they still had a 2 1/2 game lead entering the series in Minnesota. It was entirely in their hands. And I don't believe anyone would doubt it's more than a lack of talent. These players act scared on the field. Am I supposed to believe Minnesota is unstoppable at home? They've lost games there this year. 2. No one expected us to be this good. Yes, that's true -- but that's the mindset of the baseball retarded. For the first few months you could have used this line to get through tough losses, but it has become obvious this team isn't last years. They CHOKED. If Williams is like any of us he should be looking at major changes to this roster. How can anyone take anymore of this for another season?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Too early for this thread...there will be plenty of time to talk about this in 3 days. As of now, we're still theoretically tied. Yeah, they fold in Minnesota in the biggest game of the series and I'm supposed to believe they're going to win the final game against Detroit? I doubt it. Does it sound right that after sweeping us they'll just lay down to KC?
-
It's nothing but a choke. Has it ever been anymore obvious? They had a f***ing 6-1 lead in the fourth and couldn't put Minnesota away. Forget corpseball, this is pussyball. I am honestly insulting the manlihood of these players, and if there were ever a time to do so it's now. If I were married to one of these guys I'd be ashamed. It's a game of baseball and they're playing scared. f***ing embarrassing.

What a monumental choke. You have a 6-1 lead knowing everything on the line and you still give it up. Convince me what you're seing right now is a team afraid. It's embarrassing as a White Sox fan. f***ing disgraceful. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) Same lineup tonight? Haha....unbelievable. Does anyone know if everyone is in the same order? I assume this is what everyone means when they say "same lineup" but I haven't seen anything posted. I could atleast understand the same players, because there aren't many alternatives, but having everyone in the same exact f***ing order after last night is ridiculous. This series has shown the 3-4-5 haven't done s***. Do we want Wise up again in crucial situations again? Either he's thinking "I need to stick to one lineup" or "I'll show those people who are criticizing me whose boss by not changing one damn thing!" -
