"Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs NLDS"
Did anyone see Pinella show frustration with Fukodome? He was PISSED, basically said he's struggling, not going to be in the lineup anymore, and that's the end of that. It was true, but surprising nevertheless to hear.

Also, I know somebody will say "worry more about your own team," but watching the Cubs lose actually makes me feel about the Sox lost today. If we had our #2 pitcher on the mound, at home, and had 4 errors and gave up 10 runs I'd be furious. Not to mention the expectations on these guys compared to us.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) I hope Dan Bernstein is drowning his sorrows in a cocktail of Jack Daniels and Cianide (I know he says he's a Sox fan, but I swear to god he's a f***ing cubs fan) I hate that jackass What, did he have the "you have nothing to worry about Cubs fans" angle?

GREAT CALL UMP! I love it. It looked low and should give their fans something else to complain about.

YES, the favorite part of the broadcast for me. Random shots of Cubs fans with sad facial gestures while rubbing their hands over their faces. HAHAHAH. Maybe we'll have a camera shot of someone crying!

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Too little too late but it gives the Cubs something to look toward to going to LA People always suggest this when teams battle back late, but time and time again it's proven that these moral victories don't matter. It's still a loss, and they'll be down 2-0 going to LA.

Man, Broxton looks like 300 pounds of chewed bubble gum. He physically makes me want to throw up.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 11:32 PM) I guess "Saito" is Korean for "Paniagua." I don't know how he ever succeeds watching the Cubs play him. He seems to hang his looping curveball about half the time it's thrown.

Ron Darling sounds a bit like James Woods. And I believe Tony Gwynn, Eric Young and Harold Reynolds should form a commentating team of shrill sounding black guys with limited insight.

The Adventures of Soxtalkers
Together, all four made up a gang of friends each possessing a special ring. On weekends they solved mysteries for a reasonable rate. The original Soxtalk group quickened their pace to avoid speaking with the ghosts of their past. YASNY was the first to reach the front gate, but he knew it wasn't the late he'd see of the super buddies.

The Adventures of Soxtalkers
As the two figures approached through the afternoon haze Fathom gulped. He had a strange feeling these unknown people were trouble. "My name is Jim. JimH," said one of the figures, glistening in the sunlight from a recently applied coat of vegetable oil over his rippling muscles.

One Man's Timidity Can Set the Tone
Answer this for me, Soxbadger -- if we were to make it to the ALCS and the choice was between Vazquez on full rest, Richard on full rest, or one of our other starters on three days rest who do you go with? In order, for me, it'd be Buehrle/Danks/Floyd on three days rest, Richard, then Vazquez. And I'm not second guessing Guillen for today, either. I'm just tired of Vazquez. There shouldn't be a next time for him unless we have exhausted all other options. Over last four starts he has proven he can't figure it out. Whether there's a legitimate reason aside form choking I don't know. It's not like he hasn't pitched over 200 innings before. His velocity was good today, as well, so you can't blame injuries.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 04:12 AM) It's 43 degrees here right now. Feels like 38. I hate when it gets cold. It even has the smell of Fall outside. We've reached the point of no return, where any temperature above 60 is a luxury; and probably a one day occurence.

When did you start feeling old?
At 23, I'm sure I'll have more reasons to feel old later; but recently, the thought of going to school with people who were born in 1990 was different. Additionally, walking around campus at any one time and thinking "I'm probably older than 95% of the people on campus at this one moment" made me feel old. I believe it's all perspective though. Whenever I go out to bars I often come across people who are in the their late 30's, early 40's drinking with their friends. Not getting sloppy drunk, but just hanging out. It's a strange assurance to have. Makes me feel that when I become that age I can still spend time with my buddies at a local pub without thinking of it as unusual.

One Man's Timidity Can Set the Tone
QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Listening to the Score, sounds like no one will even comment. When he leaves the team, a lot of things are going to come out. I can't imagine many players not feeling frustration with Vazquez and his fourth straight start giving up 5 or more earned runs. He had a terrible reputation in big games before this streak, and even after he was given an opportunity to redeem himself today with atleast a quality outing, he couldn't even do that.

QUOTE (SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) I think instead of the usual rowdy assclowns at Wrigley you saw a different set of fans buying $500-2000 ripoff Wrigley playoff tickets. That's what happens when a team's ownership works in conjunction with scam brokers like they do... Granted '05 Sox post-season tix weren't exactly Monday walkups, but you still saw a representation of the real fan at that time. This is what I thought as well. They have a large season ticket fanbase, and your bussed in from Iowa frat boy probably isn't one of them.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I'm sorry, I'm reading that this just proves that the white sox are clearly the worst team in the league, in fact, the most frustrating team to EVER make the playoffs. We had our worst starting pitcher going, then we throw in our AAAA pitcher for a lot of the innings after that. We need 1 of 2 from this game and we knew this wasn't the best shot we had. Welcome to the playoffs. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. One game isn't the definition of your team. Do the Cubs, Angels and Brewers all completely suck too! Right! Where are you getting any of this? I've never claimed the White Sox are the worst in the league or the worst to make the playoffs. Neither do I use this one game as the definition of our team, or the other playoff clubs who lost. It's not just one game. This is all I'm suggesting. How do division series favor teams which win the first game of the series? We can't just dismiss it. This isn't Game 1 of 162. Matchups, unless they're part of a large trend (ie, Santana against us) can't be guaranteed to follow as planned. Just because this afternoon wasn't our best chance to win on papaer doesn't mean we'll fare any better tomorrow because Buehrle is going up against a struggling Kazmir. We've seen with Blackburn recently that even struggling pitchers can turn themselves around in one start, against one team. That's why I can't just blow off this game. We had our opportunities to win and blew it. No guarantee we'll do well tomorrow.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) Looked to me like he was sticking up for Uribe who Balfour showed up in his at bat. He should have stuck up for Uribe by actually getting a hit. Why give Balfour any extra motivation? Cabrera just embarrassed himself by kicking dirt and then striking out. Terrible.

Vazquez starting Thursday
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) I personally dont think the Javy isnt 'big game' argument holds up. First off, he was stellar innings 1-4 last game. Are those not big game situations in those innings? If anything his later inning wearing down points to something structural... not mental. Second... he had some big games vs. big opponents between mid-Aug to mid-Sept and gave us a chance to win. Yeah, you may want to change your tune.

"Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs NLDS"
Yeah, I thought Wrigley Field had the intensity of an ordinary game. You really notice it when comparing to our game yesterday, for example. And I know there weren't many opportunities for the Cub fans to be excited, but after the grandslam it was just dead.

The OFFICIAL "I'm sorry" thread
I'm sorry for just being myself. I don't even need to explain that. It's not October baseball without my claims the team is choking and for them to come around and prove me wrong. Before the final game of the Twins series I said that until we won a game in Minneapolis or the division, whichever came first, every post I would write would be only of people choking. After the sweep concluded I abandoned it because, I felt, I wouldn't be posting anything but a choking avatar until sometime around midyear 2009 at the earliest. They really surprised me. The entire celebration reminded me how good it feels to watch your team celebrate. I'd like to say right now I'll be happy no matter what happens against Tampa, but I know that isn't true. If they're leading every game by five runs and the bullpen surrenders the lead every game I'll be pissed no matter how well the season ended.

Second... he had some big games vs. big opponents between mid-Aug to mid-Sept and gave us a chance to win. hahahahaha Please stop. These excuses are pathetic. Games don't last four innings. We don't judge pitchers if they pitch five great innings and just have one bad one. You have to do well from beginning to end. He hasn't done that. Even if you're reluctant to say he's not a big game pitcher, and a choker, the alternative is opposing players are seeing him well the second time through and that means either him or AJ/Hall have to do a better job of changing their approach to hitters.
