QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Oh, I don't think it will end at 1-0 either, the question is........ You just have this feeling with the Twins this is exactly where they want us. Lay dead for 7 innings then pull together a typical Minnesota rally full of bloop hits and timely extra base hits. I'll feel more comfortable with this small lead if Hermanson doesn't find his way onto the mound. -

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) OK. You be the manager. Who pitches in 7, 8, 9 for Sox? I say Garland, Cotts, Hermanson. Unless Garland is shot. Then, I go with Cotts, Jenks, Hermanson. I'm sure Ozzie will do his usually matchup stuff and bring in Marte to give up a hit to a lefthander. Enough of Hermanson. His back is ailing and he's already shown these Minnesota hitters all in his arsenal. Substitute Jenks for Cotts (hopefully he'll have a quick 7th to work the 8th) and Jenks in the 9th. -
It's a ridiculous promotion because it only reinforces our stereotype as a ballclub which draws greasy haired mullet wearing trashballs. You know the day following this promotion there is going to be a blown up picture in the Tribune of some overweight guy chugging beer and making a complete ass of himself. This will be followed by a William Ligue and Eric Dybas update. I'm guessing Boyer is attempting to poke fun at this image, but I'm dreading the moment this promotion reaches the national level.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) His job is to f***ing improve the team. I'm not saying he should be fired, but I'm tired of these garbage excuses for everyone. He's trying, he's worked all offseason on his swing, we could do worse...DO YOUR JOB. Williams' job will be safe this season if the team s***s itself and falls flat. However, next season, IMO, will be the determing year on whether or not he'll remain the GM of this organization after 2006. This is all based on stipulation, but I don't see it any other way. If White Sox fail to reach the post season this year, and don't make the playoffs next sesason (regardless of the position they finish), Williams should be fired. No excuses. He'll be given all benefit entering next season with this club because it's essentially the same team. It's his club, his moves, his future. This offseaon will be unbearable for all you Williams supporters if our club finishes any possible collapse. See, in 10 years, no one will remember how the trading market "favored sellers" or "few teams made moves." Fans of future generations will recall our general manager sitting on his hands during the trading deadline and failing to acquire a hall-of-famer in Griffey. I said it the minute the trade deadline passed on July 31: if this team collapses or has an early round exit it's ALL coming back to Williams for doing nothing. Doesn't have to make sense--he will receive heavy criticism. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) I've never started the game thread. Slump buster? or another bust? This is the moment for Mark to set the tone. Be the ace. Oops, Freddy did that last night. This is the moment for Paulie to spark some offense. Buehrle does need to step up like he never has before. It would be devastating to lose the first two games of this series and position ourselves for six straight losses against the Twins. If we lose tonight against Mays, I guarantee we'll lose tomorrow against Silva. No excuses not to win against a struggling lineup missing two productive hitters (Stewart/Hunter). Time to hike up your panties and pitch like an ace, Mark.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Well said. This is abysmal. I know it's Santana, but this has been weeks now. Even at the end of our last (too short) win streak, we were winning 2-1, 3-2, etc. Score some runs, already, pick up someone by trade, help. I don't think we're this bad, but I didn't think that early in the season, either, and now it's worse. Don't let this one away. Problem with tonite is people will simply use Santana's stature as an excuse for their performance. It stands out more with Garcia's game, but it's far from an aberration. We've seen him for the third time this year. He's not molded from the arms of the best pitchers in baseball history. Teams have beaten him. Make adjustments. Take a few pitches. If we're losing, lose with several walks and more than 3 f***ing hits; 2 of which came off a reserve player in Ozuna. -

Must be great knowing you have to be perfect every outting to win behind this pitiful offense. Not even a one-hitter is good enough. -

7/12 games trimmed in three weeks. This may be about the time to begin worrying about a collapse. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) i know its santana but this is f***ing ridiculous Our pitching staff has to be frustrated over this. You can only do so much on the mound before one mistake is made. If we happen to face Santana in the playoffs, are we all going to scrug our shoulders and simply concede a loss? Bulls***. Learn how to hit Santana. Take extra video, change your techniques. What they did today to Garcia is inexcusable. -

Freddy Garcia pitches his ass of and will receive the loss because of it. -

This is bulls***. Sox have hit nothing but "hang whiff em's" the entire f***ing game. One of these line drives have to fall through. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) Maybe the players should vote to forfeit the games they have to face Santana. They look like they have no chance. Sure do. I'm honestly tired of hearing the excuse of his dominace justifying our ineptitude. You eventually have to learn how to adapt to Santana. Yes, he's one of the best pitchers in the league. But if this team continues to believe, as many on this board do, they're destined to lose every game against Santana no one will score. He'll be facing this club for a longgggg time. Learn now or continue chalking up losses. This team should consider changing their approaches: maybe look exclusively for a changeup one at bat, swing first pitch fastball next, or take every single pitch without swinging another. I'm tired of watching Santana throw 2 hits through 6 innings EVERY start. Not even a pitcher of his caliber should be doing that to a team sitting atop the American League. -
QUOTE(Hanky Panky @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) All I have to say is that ESPN's 50 States in 50 Days is friggin retarded. But yeah, I hope the Sox win. Whenever I hear "Life is an open road to meeee...," that's about the time I change the channel. It's obvious this is someones plan intended to draw ratings from areas of the nation (ideally everywhere outside of the East) by highlighting specific features of individual states.

Today is the day--8/21/05 Game Thread
Flash Tizzle replied to flyg88182's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Any notice how quick Rowands swing was on his homerun to RF? DJ commented on it--it was ridiculously compact and short. Wind must be tailing out to RF this afternoon. I'm glad this club awakened against Johnson in this inning. Although he's hardly the pitcher of 5 years ago (or even last year--he hasn't thrown his sweeping breaking ball to RH's yet), still a tough pitcher. -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) It would be funny if this was all from Soxtalk and one thing led to the next. Both websites eluding to these steroid discussions (Cincinnati/NYY fan sites) have referenced Soxtalk. One of the Cincinnati posters even mentioned our website breaking a steroid positive two days before it was known publically. Now we didn't exactly break this news--New York website had a thread started on August 11, but I find it interesting people have trusted our website's sources.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) We're gonna lead SC tonight...well, after TO. Well, looks like we'll finally get the attention so many feel we deserve. Too bad it'll take a no hitter to achieve it.

QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Flash, Don't put a blame on Kenny! You as well as EVERYONE on this board know how s***ty this trading deadline has been. For a million times, the Reds DO NOT want to trade KGJ away. Kenny has nothing to explain to me or to you or to anybody else. He has been doing pretty good job for our Sox team this year. Our players are currently going through a very tough period. And you know WHY? Podsednik is on the DL. Eversince Scott has been sick, you can see how terrible our team has been playing. Just let Podsednik get his full rest. When he comes back, he will be much healthier and, hopefully, we as the team will continue our first-half surge. Tomorrow, we are still going to have 11 games lead on the Indians and 12 over the Twins. Don't worry too much man! Doesn't have to make sense. Williams will shoulder blame regardless of the trade market. You think Mariotti will take into consideration the asking price of Tampa Bay or Cincinnati? Or the remainder of the Chicago media? Does anyone besides hardcore Sox fans such as ourselves realize the asking prides of several coveted players on the market? What is known is Williams big move on the market, when it was obvious the offense was in need of an upgrade, was Geoff Blum. Whom, by the way, hasn't contributed s***. I won't blame Williams. I never meant to suggest as much. But he will be criticized.
-
Sox don't advance past the first round, or good forbid--collapse before the seasons end, this is going back to Williams. Don't make a deadline move or acquire Griffey, especially after these latest offensive troubles, you'll have a lot of explaining to do.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) This is f***in' pathetic, no offense and our pitching has been s***ty. 2 runs off Buehlre through 4 innings is hardly s***ty. If LeCroy is the only Twin who hits Buehlre we'll be in good shape. Now, the problem is a key point in winning baseball games is scoring more than your opponent. With Santana on the mound, and our recent offensive woes, might as well be a 6 run lead for Minnesota.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) Anderson should ask for that ball too -- his first strike out against Santana! First of many in his career if he flails at Santanas changeup. I've said it yesterday, despite his two hits, Anderson has taken several TERRIBLE swings. This is something you'd never see from a Minnesota callup. Yesterday against Nathan it was almost as if he'd never seen a 95 mph fastball in his life.
-
Quicker than I expected from Anderson. Only took three pitches to set him down.
-
How poorly will Brian Anderson fair today against Santana? I'm guessing 0-3, 3 K's. If he was baffled with Radke's changeup, which is deceptive in its own right, how will he manage against the best in the league?
-
How much influence do you suppose the Sun-Times editors had in Mariotti limiting his Hawk insults? When I logged onto Soxtalk several minutes ago and noticed this thread I was expecting another Hawk Harrelson rant. Unfortunately, Mariotti looks classy here ignoring Hawk. I still despise him, but by not prolonging another back-and-forth fued shows where he priorities remain. Or rather where he's forced to pay attention to. I'm sure they'll be a slow news day in the future we'll hear from our bushy eyebrowed friend on Hawk.

In high-school, friends called me 'Russian' because of my Eastern European last name. Although I insisted the name originated from Czechoslovokia, it was too late. Also created in high school was the "K-Man" due to my first name (Ken), and one fateful Government class I glided through a classroom door like Cosmo Kramer frequently did. My friend, without a doubt, has the BEST nickname ever invented. We call him "Mogie." Even since 4th grade he's been called that. The kid who gave my friend that nickname had no idea where it came from, but it's stuck ever since.
