QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) Just look at South Park. They started out with way less characters than the Simpsons so over the years they have had to add new characters in order to go along with new story lines. Parker/Stone realized their path was mirroing the Simpsons slap stick, formulaic routine. New characters were created naturally through the characters moving onto the next grade, which honestly broughta fresh appeal to the show. In addition to new characters, South Park's transition from episodes involving character development to current events was smooth. If you notice the first several seasons, many (if not all) episodes involved problems relating to Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny. Newer episodes obviously follow this trend, but usually there's some sort of reference to an issue in the news. Not only is the news item discussed, but usually its presented in a fashion which pushes the limits. Network TV's version of pushing the envelope is legalizing gay marriage. OMFG!

QUOTE(cheeses_h_rice @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Everett was just tubby last year. He had the body of a guy getting older and not making the necessary adjustments to stay lean. I-Rod had the body of a guy juicing it up, period. Look at the size of the melon on his shoulders last year. I agree Everett was plain chubby. Ever notice his gut pushing through his jersey whenever he'd step to the plate? Idling on the DL/bench for 80 games will add a few unwanted pounds. If IROD was suffering through a nagging injury, or following a mediocre season, then shedding 20+ pounds might be understandable. But in the superstitious world of baseball, altering yourself physique after posting .334/.383/.510 will raise questions. I believe Canseco; IROD was roiding.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) Nice, http://mirror.awstuff.com/paris/ (I guess NSFW either) has a couple more pics and her notes including Mark Cuban's phone # (should I try calling tomorow?) and an Eli Manning mention Wow, first site I've browsed through which hosted a working/free link to her sex tape. Better download this baby quickly.

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) Yep. Time to finish the Series. Any "Simpson's" fan knew it wouldn't be the obvious..... Smithers..... but one of the sis's of Marge..... in this case, Patty. Kill it on a high note M. Groenig!!!!! Simpsons will be around until ratings plummit. I doubt Groening will cut loose this show to preserve the integrity of his creation. It's been violated far too many times. Possibly the best indications of this are the "Armen Tazarian" spinoff, or the clipshow where "Have no fear, we have stories for years...." is melodied from Billy Joe's tune.. FOX will continue shoving money down his throat while the cow is still producing. Honestly, you have to wonder how many original episodes can there be. Where's the incentive for viewers to continue watching new episodes? Simpsons strong viweing base lies on its 18+ demographic; ideally viewers which grew up alongside the series. Writers need to build off such classic episodes as "Who Shot Mr. Burns;" where buzz was circulating and viewership reached its high point. Problem is there are few, if any, mysteries remaining on the show. Writers need to heed their own advice (poochie episode) and create a new character. For all the crap recycled on FOX, watching mediocre Simpsons episodes isn't really that bad. Still can't believe Futurama was shipped to Cartoon Network, or Family Guy's return took nearly 4 years.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) If anyone still watches the Simpsons anymore, they would've just seen that Patti came out of the closet Yeah, I tuned in to expect Ned Flanders. Complete ripoff. The entire episode was terrible. Simpsons need to continue creating outrageous adventures, and stay away from political topics.

Santana's agent should be fired for this disservice. Loyalty and commitment undoubtedly factors into contracts, but should have little weight when you're the reigning AL Cy Young in the midst of an inflated market. Rotoworld's right; he would have scored big on the FA market. This just epitomizes everything which defines the success of the Twins organization. I'm tired of hearing fans congratulating these bastards. The entire Twins organization (esp. minor league system), in addition to Jim Hendry, Billy Beane and Scott Boras, should be collectively removed from baseball. The world will look kindly upon the White Sox only when these four figures are removed from MLB service. Winning would help too, I suppose.

Independent Film Channel absolutely blew me away two nights ago. Around 1:00 AM begins this move called "Session 9;" possibly the scariest, well-crafted psychological thriller you've never heard of. Yesterday at Blockbuster I walked passed the horror section and noticed it available for rent. Highly recommend it.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) Anyone forgetting Buerhle? In 2003, after Mientkiewicz made those comments about the Sox not deserving the ASG, promptly got knocked down by MB in their 1st meeting. Or how about Garland getting ejected for throwing at a Twins player in retaliation for one of them hitting Frank? Except for Mike Jackson, I think the pitchers will back their guys up. Garland was responsible for plunking Mientkiwicz following his ASG comments. April 26, 2003 Great game summary.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) I don't care who drills him aslong as it's done. No, it must be done appropriately. Added emphasis on velocity. Who throws the hardest on our team? Cliff Politte, right? With a comfortable lead, and hopefully a light workload preceeding his entrace, Politte MUST drill Hunter in his ribs. While it would be labeled a cheap move by many, Buehrle simply throws too softly. I'd be scared asking the same of Garland/Hernandez/Garcia/Contreras; all of which could implode following a free pass. Politte should enforce justice our first series with Minnesota.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) wasn't there legs? Don't believe so. I heard the article's author mention its withered, gargoyle appearance was due to fisherman gutting the delicious entrails of the particular stingray. Identification was difficult because a large majority of its fins were cut off; making it unrecognizable to those who found it. Another mysterious creature science just HAD to logically explain.
-
Mystery solved. "Chupacabra" is actually a stingray with its fins, entrails cut out.

QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) If you live in the Chicago area, tune into WLS 890 at midnight if you want to hear. I've never listened to this network before. Great radio. Crazy women recently called in complaining about the absence of abstinence related programs in our society. Whomever is hosting this show is doing his job demeaning this women's irrational thoughts. Awesome. /now, back to chupacabra

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Strange corpse has some muttering the word ‘chupacabra’ People are scared of this mysterious figure? It barely fits within a small box. But hey, if it keeps illegal immigrants within their borders I'll acknowledge its existence.

Well, atleast noone within this thread has yet to reply: "Twins are three time division champions. Until someone beats them, they have the right to say whatever they want." I hope Guillen has conditioned his players not to issue similar statements in the media. Last few years, Koch and Valentin (especially) have spouted off about Minnesota's "lucky bounces."

Anyone else ever wonder what happened to "My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss" besides myself? Apparently, Fox unexpectantly placed the show on permanent hiatus (without prior warning) last month. As an avid viewer, I was disappointed with Fox's decision to shelf this series without explanation. I find it ridiculous this series was dumped, yet crap such as "House" or "Simple Life" remains. http://moskalyuk.com/blog/what-happened-to...300#postcomment

ESPN Radio 1000 Reports....

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) aw jezzus...if this is true, I think the cuddly little Northsiders would be jumping off buildings on Clark and Addison. Tribune newspaper reporters are scrambling right now in their offices. The personal campaign to discredit Jose Canseco has officially begun. How dare anyone suggest a current Cub player has injected himself with steroids?! Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Tribune posted a picture of Canseco with a White Sox jersey; refering to him as "former White Sox DH..." We've seen how the newspaper seeks methods of shifting attention off themselves. -

QUOTE(mac9001 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) He can just as easily get injured, lose his stuff, etc. Nothing is a given, I'll take the guaranteed $40 million and look to score big next time around. Santana has all the leverage. Judging from his cy-young performance last season, Johan has fully rehabilitated his shoulder. While 40 million is a stationary figure bound to increase, Santana deserves nothing short of a 'home-discounted' 36mil/3yrs. Hopefully Boras is whispering "100 million dollar contract" down his neck.

Pictures included. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,146797,00.html How does a 13 year old kid pull down this woman?

-Twins stellar organization, abundance of young talent. -Tigers proximity to contention; contingent on health of Bonderman/bullpen -Indians rebuilt farm system, progression of rookies, added depth in rotation/IF. -Royals (rather improbable) dreams. I may be complaining about nothing, but I found Gammon's assessment of our team to be rather stale. He simply states our additions without adding much analysis; good or bad. Probably cut and pasted White Sox offseason information from the same "source" responsible for Rob Neyer's piece.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Sox fans are waking up to the fact that they lost Maggs for the 05 season because the team didn't want to spend 12-13M to keep him. That's tough realization to swallow. Besides Texsox and Anthrax (whose hatred of Williams is unrelenting), who exactly is faulting Sox management for failing to pay 12-13mil in retaining Magglio? Of course now, after Detroit's offer is disclosed, you can debate what Williams should have done two months ago-- before Ordonez' exact health was known. All I know is this team is better off without Magglio, and whether or not Boras orchestrated this situation is no concern of mine. However, I would have been upset if Williams offered arbitration, Ordonez accepted, and we're left risking 12-13 million on ONE player unlikely to produce numbers worthy of that price.

QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) The Simpsons was fricking brilliant last night. "You try to raise your daughter a secular humanist and then Hollywood comes and shoving religion in our face.... 'Mommy, why wasn't I baptized?' See what they've done??" American Dad's half hour, Republican beat down must have been pure heaven.

Tonight's Simpsons episode was mediocre. Typical of recent episodes. Too many plugs of professional atheletes. Yao Ming's lines weren't funny, and neither were LaBron James. -Lebron accepts omlettes LEBRON: This is the happiest day of my life. LISA: Didn't you recently sign a 90 million dollar contract? LEBRON: That was a good day, too. No punch line. One of many weak lines during this week's episode.
-
How much different is Hendry's response from Kennys? Did Magglio honestly believe they'd offer arbitration without examining, or observing him workout? It's ridiculous Magglio spouts off against Sox management, while failing to acknowledge the risk of spending 12 million on a player recovering from knee surgery. I wouldn't expect him to publically acknowledge this risk; but merely understand our situation and remain quiet. Detroit didn't forsee anything other clubs overlooked. They simply wet their pants at the notion of an unsuccessful offseason. Extra money laying around from the NHL strike has to be spent on something. Oh, and Magglio, when only one club offers a contract you term suitable, there's usually a reason. While Mets/Cubs weren't on record questioning your knee, it's obvious the problem is lingering in the minds of general mangers. Have fun in Comerica, buddy.

Ex-Sox Player Admits to Steroids!

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Anyone else see the title and was hoping that it was Maggs... "Ex-Sox Player Admits to Steroids." Sounds more like the title of a Tribune article.
