South Park
WHORE OFF! I don't believe I laughed as hard in any other recent episode. South Park is resurging as a pop culture phenomenon.

Rumors thread
QUOTE(ihatethecubs @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) my big worry was maggs signing with the cubs, it doesnt bother me much if he goes to detroit, its just more opportunity for us to kick his ass with our new team! Unfortunately, I feel the same way. Perhaps its my conditioning as a Cub-hater, but for Cub management to sign Ordonez, Sosa would have since been traded. Sosa must remain a Cub for the likelihood of clubhouse distractions. In addition, listening to a Chicago Media glorify Maggs, while oblivious to his 8 yrs of service on the southside, would be hell. The potential of Ordonez battling our team 19 times a years should exceed any resentment of Cubdom, but it doesn't. First, his health remains questionable; second, the addition of Ordonez to Detroit's lineup won't push them into contention.

We are coming
QUOTE(raff @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) sox fan forever suck a dick. im just letting you guys know that something big will hit the cell this summer. end of story. Sounds like another uncorroborated, unreliable terrorist threat. My bet is this thread is intentionally open ended, so if anything "big" were to "hit the cell" Raff claims inside knowledge. Sly fox, you.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Why do students think that, "I need this class to graduate" is a compelling reason to be let into a full course? Your poor schedule planning does NOT mean that I am going to reorganize my life--or break the rules. Touchy subject for me. Scheduling problems are nothing out of the ordinary at University of Illinois-Chicago. Here, opposed to wherever you've graduated, strict fire codes have been enforced following a highly publicized downtown fire last fall. Classes which once held 25 students were cut to 20. While several professors are forgiving, most abide by the rules and offer no sympathy. UIC has unintentionally left a sizable percentage of the student population disgruntled and seeking transfers. What compounds these troubles is record enrollment. Too many students, too few classes. My frustration boiled several months ago when I was denied enrollment in every Criminal Justice class required for graduation. Unless I was willing to take a class which began at 7PM; which I'm wasn't. Luckily, a spot opened a week before the Spring semester. If I were in your position, I'd probably feel similarily towards students who can't create a simple schedule. My lineancy would be with people, such as myself, denied enrollment in subjects in which they're majoring.

Sox @ Cubs May. 20th
QUOTE(valponick @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) I'm not sure, I will check on it for you though and see. Out of curiousity, is this bar McNally's? Several occasions I passed the joint and noticed information relating to bus trips posted on their sign. I'll be interested if the under 21 limit is waived.

Films
Original release of Assault on Precinct 13. Browsing Best Buy's New Release section, I was rather shocked to see this DVD listed for only $6.99. With the remake currently in theathers, you'd expect typical Collectors Edition/Re-Release/Directors Cut bulls*** to justify a high price tag. Seven dollars is a huge bargain. I would place this up with "Halloween" and "Escape From New York" as Carpenter's best work. Honestly, don't know how the hell this movie escaped pop culture infamy. Besides the Chinese kid in "From Dusk Till Dawn" paying homage, fan appreciation never surfaced; until now. Although the film suffers from numerous outdated scenes/concepts, it's still a tremendous action movie.

Tadahito Iguchi Signed
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) I know, I wasn't having a go at you personally. I'm just saying people had double standards when it came to that term, only a month ago people wanted KW fired, and now he's done a great job, and made the moves that he's had to make. And yes we've broken it first here, well a White Sox related site anyways, there's no mention on WSI. There's no irony our double standards with our (Williams bashers) noted complaints. Last offseason completely altered our confidence in this organization. When Walker was signed, insulting Williams was merely a joke. However, following Jaret Wright's departure from Free Agency "flying under the radar" became a target for criticism. I've apologized before and acknowledged offseason needs were fulfilled. Personally, it's irritating when someone says "And some people STILL will have something to complain about..," but I understand how many were irritated with criticism before Williams' spree of signings/trades. EDIT: Behold the glory of Soxtalk.

Castillo for 2B?-Part 2
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 06:12 AM) Could a contingency deal be in the works between the Sox and Fish, if the fish don't land Delgado, to get them a LH bat? Maybe a deal along the lines of Carl Everett, Neal Cotts and Harris for Castillo and a prospect. the Sox would still have Bochard as the LH power, and Cotts would be the sweetener as Castillo is locked up for a few yrs, and Everett is gone after 2005 I wouldn't object trading Everett/Cotts/Harris for Castillo/Prospect if the prospect was mid-level, and Big Hurt's health wasn't in question. As it stands, a lineup without Everett (and Frank) is substantially weakened. Does Castillo replacing Harris compensate for Everett's loss? I know you can't possibly have faith in Borchard substituting as our teams LH power bat. In addition, I'd hesitate trading Cotts; whom may be transitiong to rotation spot in 06' (definitely 07). Without Contreras/El Duque/Buehrle(?) in 2007, it'd be ideal to fill out 4th/5th starter's position with McCarthy/Cotts. I know it's far ahead, but in today's inflated market two starters who may combine for less than 1.5 million is worth noting.

A reminder from espn.
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) :rolly :rolly :rolly Seriously f*** YOU Torii!!!! :fyou :fyou :fyou Portraying White Sox fans as violent criminals? Never heard this angle. I recall a friend of mine, who was one of the fans razzing Hunter, said absolutely no one threatened his life. Several other people in the group colloborated this. You'd think an allegation as severe as threatening someones life would warrant an arrest, or at the least removal from USCF. Neither occured.

Marte/Harris for Castillo
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Off course, you are going under the assumption that Marte will revert to his '03 form. It could be a case of the AL hitters getting familiar with Marte and '04 could be the beginning of a slide from very good to uninspiring mediocrity. And Shingo? Or Hermanson, Vizcaino; how will the transfer of leagues effect their statistics? IMO, the priority to upgrade 2B is not a necessity at this point. When mid-year approaches, and the usual bottom feeders are auctioning players, surely a solid 2B/RH utility player can be acquired. Will a pitcher of Marte's stature be available?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) :headshake That is almost as offensive as the weatherman's slip. I join YAS in offering a :fyou Well, send me to hell for inadvertingly offending several members. I meant the comment in jest, but if you feel necessary its to cry about it; fine.

No names on Cubs home jerseys
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) In other news, cubs fans won't have any clue who the guys on the field in front of them are. Cubs management must have been tired of fans sporting "WOODS" and "MADDOX" jerseys. Who is willing to bet this PR move is to offset Wrigley Field's newest corporate billboards behind homeplate.

Happy MLK day, Coon.
QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) How does that slip out...it doesn't even flow with the sentence. WTF. Can you say....dumbass!!! Worst possible situation for a Freudian slip to surface. I'm not certain how weatherman broadcast the news, but I have to believe they read forecasts off a teleprompter. Which only dampers his credibility. Guarantee this won't stop him from finding another position somewhere in the South.

Iguchi News
One important note is Ichui's "one condition" of a guaranteed position. Although Red Sox may have a higher offer, Belhorn is their starting 2B. Iguchi would start w/ White Sox. EDIT: Majority of this article may not concern Tadahito Iguchi. Although I assumed "Inokuchi" was Iguchi, 35 yrs old is listed as the age of the player in the article. Iguchi is 30. Maybe the translation is wrong.

Iguchi News
QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) Hmm there was a "Sox Sign Iguchi" thread on the page that dissapeared quite fast. I assume it was because of faulty info. Mods working overtime tonight. Besides the article; which had no mention of Iguichi, I realized something was amiss when I clicked on a link which said I was "13th person to be slapped around with a large trout." Soxnet chat humor, right there.

AJ knees the trainer in the groin
QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I wonder if Stan is any relation to Victor. I was wondering the same thing this morning. Found this browsing Google: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=76

AJ knees the trainer in the groin
How exactly does Pierzynski knee personal trainer Stan Conte without additional fans, media personnel noticing? Does the article not sound as if the incident occured during the game? "Conte rushed to the scene," yet only a select few witnessed it. Regardless of its authenticity, AJ is beginning a new slate. Hopefully his teammates feel similarily.

Joe Borchard joined Dickerson and Levine. Sounds like a genuinely nice fellow. Which is going to hurt even more when he begins 2005 in Charlotte.

Reinsdorf approves a baseball team assembled around speed/defense. Manuel believed assembling a power club was essential in the American League. Hangar18 questioned Reinsdorf on the 'fan perception' offseason moves were infact approved as cost-cutting measures. JR cited Minnesota's payroll in their division victory.

Reinsdorf insists Torii Hunter/Jamie Burke was dirty. Claims Ozzie Guillen was right and wrong in his approach following the incident. Insists management's worst offseason move was allowing LaRussa to leave. Best was signing Carlton Fisk.

Stupid kid. Asking Reinsdorf how he feels to own a professional baseball team. Where's Hangar18 to grill Reinsdorf on his supposed cheapness?

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) jr on now Levine and Dickerson are quivering in the presense of Reinsdorf. Levine has let out several nervous chuckles this segment. Dickerson likely fears for his job. Unbelievable. Reinsdorf is fielding live questions from the crowd. Usually Reinsdorf hides in his dungeon during fan events.
