Jesus, did Paulie suddenly figure out how to run? I'm surprised he made it home on that hit. -

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) youkilis looks like such a clown at the plate. its amazing he ever gets a hit let alone is one of the most productive players in the game He has that Manny Ramirez (when he was in Boston) and David Ortiz way of batting in that if they dont swing at a strike, then it's not a strike. And god forbid they're out on a called strike three. That just shouldn't happen. -
QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) Seriously? The guy is one of our top producers since 2005, and now he hits his first slump of the season, he needs to be moved down? Who cares what he has done in past years? It has absolutely no bearing on his production this season. If you're response to that is, "well, past success proves he can rebound," then I'd simply say, he can rebound from a spot lower in the lineup without as many RBI opportunities. Since the All-star break (118ABs) this is his line -- .186/.289/.586. He should be no higher than the 4th spot. Konerko hasn't been on fire either, but his OPS is 100 points higher over the same time span. If it were up to me I'd have Quentin 3rd, Thome 4th, Konerko 5th, Dye 6th. We didn't have Rios at the beginning of the season. And I know it's impossible to expect him to permanently move from RF, but why not put him as a DH on occasion?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Needs more Rios. I can't wait until Podsednik is off this team for good. -
QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) I'm sorry, but it is all on the players now to do their jobs. Ozzie coming out and having a b****fest with the reporters isn't going to change anything. If anything it will put added pressure on the players. All he needs to do is keep making the lineups and keep being positive (like the article I read on whitesox.com earlier). It's up to the players to do their jobs now. The real question is, are our players too complacent? That's the issue, here. Right now Dye doesn't deserve to be in the third position. And he sure as hell doesn't deserve to be in RF. I'll guarantee the reason behind having Dye in RF every start, opposed to a DH on occasions, is he's playing for a contract; and significant time as a DH lowers his value. I'm sure he'd make a scene out of it, so rather than do what's best for the team we're appeasing a multi-millionaire in Dye. I don't even believe it's a conspiracy. No one can tell me the coaching staff doesn't see what we do in Dye turning singles into doubles and doubles into triples on a nightly basis. I believe this is the issue with having players like Konerko and Dye around. That is, veterans who have proven themselves as productive players in past years, and that alone gives them the right to work out their troubles at spots in the lineup where their struggles are hurting the ballclub. Guillen's just too damn scared to move them around because they're veterans. Granted, not a lot can be done with Konerko -- but I'd atleast try moving him down two spots and bringing up AJ. At this point in the season, on this roadtrip, how can it hurt?

Stop watching the games if you're not in! The 2006 Cardinals have shown a mediocre team can get in and win the World Series! The 2007 Phillies were seven games behind the Mets on September 12th and came back! Don't stop, beeeellliiiieeevven! Rally Crede! (insert any reference from Major League or Bull Durham)

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) CY BERKEN DUDEZ!!!!!!11 I'm glad I haven't heard any pathetic excuses from Hawk or Stone. They know full well that he doesn't deserve any compliments for today's performance. His slider was weak, when thrown, and his straight 91mph was meat and delivered down the middle time after time; yet everyone is acting defensively at the plate as if they have to worry about a Santana changeup. Honestly, I hope either we're great (lose one or two) or terrible (win one or two) over the upcoming road trip. None of this meddling bulls*** where we're sticking around, so when the season concludes everyone can say we were in it nearly the entire way. NO. Get it out of the way by early September.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Wow Buehrle....shades of 2006 for him in the 2nd half of the year. Really a shame we didn't trade Fields for Pie. Could have saved us 60 million dollars. Maybe I should dust off the old signature: ( + ) x / =

I don't believe I've ever felt a more excruciating movie experience like I did watching Miracle at St. Anna. I've watched three fourths of the movie and don't think I have it in me to finish the rest. It has to be the slowest moving war themed drama ever created. And every character on screen is annoying and worthy of dying, especially Tree.
-
I'd be the first to suggest the Sox are done if I actually believed it. This upcoming roadtrip certainly plays an important role in their fate, though. It'll one of the longest, certaintly the toughest, roadtrips of the season They'll be fine if they don't lose more than a game in the standings.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) That video game has some solid graphics. Oh wait, that's a movie??? Looks like dogsh*t. For all the hype this movie has received from people based upon quotes (one referenced by Kyle), the estimated 300 million dollar budget, and the amount of time and effort Cameron has devoted to it, I was expecting a lot more. I can't imagine people are watching the trailer at home or at the theaters and thinking to themselves to this is the movie I want to see. As I expected, a lot of people are complaining on the imdb boards. One person wrote a post where they said the final product is far more rendered, and this is just a preview, but what I'm thinking is, why the hell would you put out an inferior product for the trailer? As if someone thought, "let's just throw out this crappy trailer now to get everyone talking about how it looks like a cartoon"

QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) Soon as I post this thread to cut Contreras, he pitches a gem in a must-win game over the Royals. Any chance he could get back on a roll? He apparently talked to El Duque and changed his pants to go with the high socks of his protoge. Not sure why Sox don't just put El Duque on the payroll if he can fix Jose. I didn't even see Contreras's game, but I know the guy can still pitch. Now we just need 3-4 more of these in a row because the Tigers aren't going to make it easy. Contreras was effective because he didn't drop down even one time to throw a pitch. Everything was over the top. Whenever he'd do his goofy old man, drop down throw it'd either be a flat fastball or a hanging breaking ball. He rarely seemed to have command of either pitch dropping down, too. I know many on Soxtalk have been complaining about it for awhile, so it's good to see that he stopped it with immediate results. And please, no more talk about the protege angle. Contreras is old enough to where some right hand buddy isn't needed for him to pitch well. Why should the White Sox consider putting Hernandez on the payroll when all Contreras has to do is make a phone call? Or meet up with him in person outside of the ballpark?

Jon Garland has cleared waivers according to FoxSports

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Man, 1.44 WHIP, 11 losses in the NL, and it's not like the NL West is loaded with offense. I wonder if he could be gotten on the real-cheap (like $2 mil or so) this offseason as a bridge to Hudson, with him being interested as a method of trying to get his career back on track. I don't mind the idea of bringing in a cheap starting pitcher to act as a temporary one-year bridge to Hudson, but I just don't want it to be Garland. Or El-Duque (in case the discussion finds its way back to him). There has to be another starting pitcher available on the market not named those two that could equal their production. -

I'm to the point I'd rather have nothing and lose than acquire any player that has left out 2005 White Sox team. Garland is gone and never coming back. He wasn't resigned for a reason. Move on. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) Your life is a bad sitcom episode. Say hi to Joey Lawrence for me. I think every sitcom has had an episode where main character involves himself with two women. Now Shipps has to foolishly arrange a date with both women on the same night, at different locations, where he will -- against all odds -- get away with it until there's some small slip up at the end of the night. He will then just shrug his shoulders and smile into the camera as the credits role. That crazy Shipps, will his shenanigans ever go as planned.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) I can't wait to not have to worry about seeing Garcia and Contreras pitch for this team. It'll be 2010 by that point. We didn't promote Garcia to immediately demote or release him, regardless of his performance tonight, so I'd expect to see a healthy dose of both of those bums. I don't understand how we can try starting Carrasco, Torres and Garcia, yet are seemingly obsessed with avoiding Hudson? Are we afraid he may succeed and present the White Sox with the decision of what to do with Garcia or Contreras? He can't be worst than either of those two. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Freddy didnt look amazing, but he didnt look horrible either. He definitely could improve and Id rather have him than Count. Just promote Hudson already. Give him a shot. We know what we have with those two. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) No use running anymore retreads out their. We don't benefit from their failure. Dan Hudson might be a different story, if he has another nice start in AAA. I'd promote him whatever the result of his next AAA start. At worst, he comes up here, pitches two games, is terrible, and goes back down. Atleast we know what we have. Better than this option of going with Garcia and Torress for the foreseeable future. If he's any sort of man he wont fall off the planet because he had a rough start to his MLB career. -

I've seen enough of Garcia. Can we PLEASE just stop avoiding the promotion of Hudson and have him pitch a few games? -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) The heat is at 87 mph tonight. Just wait until he begins sweating, it'll get up to 89-90 -
These last several predictions are too optimistic for my liking. 4IP, 6ER, 6H, 1BB, 4K Watch clips of Bannister yesterday if you want to see what Garcia will likely give us stuff wise. It wont be pretty.
