  1. Uh, didn't Williams used to throw 95 mph? How the hell did he lose 7 mph on his fastball in a few appearances?

  5. And it's not even as if he criticized the deal because Peavy may be ineffective for us. That's why he threw in the Carlos Lee comparison. Peavy may be a sub 3.50 ERA pitcher in the American League, lead us to a World Series, but I'm sure his value wouldn't be worthy of the 16/17 million he's due in '10 and '11. The author believes the production of Carter/Russell/Poreda/Richard, for the respective salaries, will exceed that of Jake Peavy. I suppose it's possible, considering you have four players involved on their end, but how the hell can anyone assemble a championship caliber ballclub unless these types of risks are taken? Anyways, when you add in Beckham, Getz, Ramirez, and possibly Flowers and Hudson, there's certaintly enough to offset Peavy's salary.
  6. The Smiley Face Murders. Look it up.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) If you are using Poreda as an example of Guillen not being able to manage a starter out of the bullpen, you are making a mistake. I would be shocked to find out Poreda was on this teams "3 Year big board" going forward. He wasn't in the franchises plans, and I honestly think the Sox didn't want to expose him that badly. It has to do more with the dependability of our starters under Guillen's reign more than his willingness to avoid using them. If practically every night a starter is going 6-7 innings, where does Hudson fit in? We should just keep it simple -- either start up in the majors or the minors. No bulls*** of pitching sporadically.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) I think Hudson is up late next year or the year after that. With such starting pitching depth, I guess you can look at it two ways -- either we can allow him to compete for the position in ST, possibly win it, and endure the growing pains of starting (similar to Danks); or figure, with a solid rotation already intact, there's no need to rush him. I feel if there's really nothing for him to work on (ie, developing second pitches), there's no need to keep him in the minors. However, what I imagine they'll do is resign Contreras and take whatever they can from him. If he's falling apart on the mound or becomes injured, then you can promote Hudson. It's easier entering the season with an option available than holding 5th starter tryouts through spring training and beyond. And not addressing you Rock, but I hope no one even f***ing hints at putting Hudson in the bullpen. I'm sick of this argument presenting itself-- you can't have a starting pitcher under Guillen pitch out of the bullpen in the long relief role because he'll never find consistent work. It was a different time with Garland and Buehrle under Manuel. If Hudson's up here, he should be starting. Otherwise, keep him in the minors.
  9. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Just announced - Carrasco starting tonight. Those outfield fans better be prepared for some incoming bombs. It'll just be hilarious if, by the time Peavy is ready to pitch, we're 6+ out of first place and would have just been better with Richard; and then after the season worry about Peavy.
  10. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) I think I heard something about the end of August. Hahahha. That's smart, trade for Peavy for a potential late season push when he wouldn't even be around for 5-6 starts. I hope this is a case of Peavy being a little b**** and taking his time on the DL rather than a legitimate injury.
  11. Please tell me there isn't any part of this deal that includes automatically picking up 2013.....
  12. Williams is going to be raped in the media if he doesn't do anything. I'm not saying they'll be right, but considering Detroit and Minnesota made roster additions and we sat twiddling our thumbs, we'll all have to endure a few days of White Sox bashing by the locals.
  13. LOL at the number of contributing 2004 Red Sox players on it. That World Series team is going to take a HUGE hit. It's really funny to me watching ESPN, and all their Sportscenter anchors practically begging MLBPA to release the names. Of course when it involves embarrassment to them, or their beloved Red Sox, they want it all out in the open as quickly as possible. I was watching ESPN News yesterday and one of the male anchors was practically losing it talking about how they keep releasing name after name, little by little. Again, I say let it trickle out slowly.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/wrap....me&c_id=cws Haha at Comcast Sports Net finding probably one of a handful of games Stone broadcasted prior to this year as their "White Sox Classic." I'm sure they'd be better off, I don't know, putting Buehrle's first no-hitter, or any other game where we came back from more than 1 run late against a bad bullpen.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) That chat is weird. I just logged in and you can still see everything Buehrle gt Wood, Flash, and SoxAce said 2 hours ago. Very convenient for the narcs, I'd say.
  16. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Just release the whole list so we can move on. Personally, I enjoy the long, agonizing wait. It'd be even funnier if they released one name, once a week, to make sure they grab the headlines. You group them all together, as others have pointed out, it takes away from the circus. Some will escape criticism. If it were me, I'd purposely release the name of a player who had a good week. Or even better, wait until a team is in the World Series, THEN release a few names. Anything to make people embarrassed. Hell, it's not even that I care about steroids or HGH -- I just love watching people complain in baseball.
  17. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) Another thing I'd really like to know is how and why these names are being leaked, who's doing the leaking, and why they're being leaked one by one. My conjecture is that the leaker or leakers are being paid - HANDSOMELY - and that there's more money in it for them by doing it this way. Some dirty dealing is going on, that's for certain. So what if they are? It doesn't take away from the fact that Ortiz tested positive for steroids. It almost seems like you're pulling the line so often connected with players when they're names are released, and that's attacking the messenger or their motivations for releasing information rather than the person them self.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:54 AM) I just made this post in another thread, but DeWayne Wise being a s***ty defender is a myth created by Soxtalk. He really isn't that bad. And everybody should know I'm no Wise supporter. I have no issues with Wise on defense. My main point was that Guillen never seemed to care about defense before, so I don't see why it should be an issue now with Kotsay; whom atleast can provide enough offense to be labeled mediocre.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:26 AM) It started long before then. Yeah, I guess the catch just made it more difficult to do what's right. Although Kotsay seems to be a move in the right direction.
  20. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) Kotsay isn't the OF he was 5 years ago. So, then Kotsay's role is as backup to Konerko.......and a backup to Wise?! It's indefensible to keep Wise around. If we're willing to put Podsednik in CF this season, Griffey in CF last season, Mackowiak several years before, it should be obvious OF defense isn't a high priority with Guillen. Kotsay should easily eclipse Wise's offense. Wise is f***ing useless. And please, no "he's a lefthanded bat available to pinch hit and for matchups against RHP." Who cares at this point?
  21. Good, she pooped out the baby. Congrats. Not get back to work, Thornton.
  22. Anyone else believe they're only keeping Wise around to limit the public outrage (among the baseball stupid and media) for not showing respect to the player who saved the perfect game? At this point, with having acquired Kotsay, there is NO reason to keep Wise on the roster. Every passing day is just a mistake, and would only prove to me they're purposely extending time between last Thursday and whenever they designate Wise for assignment.
  23. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:33 AM) After Josh's 2007 season,I thought we had a 3rd baseman that would step in and make Joe Crede expendable but alas it hasn't worked out. I still think this kid has a future but probably not with us. I'll tell you one person that should hope Anderson and Fields fail, and that's Walker. I just don't believe the idea that if a player possesses a certain amount of potential, yet has been mediocre for a majority of their big league career (as Fields/Anderson have been), they'll just miraculously begin producing on another team. If this were to somehow occur, the issue will then be they've always had the talent, yet our coaching staff couldn't get it out of either. To me, that's a huge indictment on Walker and whoever else is responsible for talking to these players. If they're succeeding outside of the White Sox, then we should look at ourselves and figure out why.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) But that Bermuda Triangle thing would be interesting. I've wondered for a while if maybe there is something going on there that is more than simple magnetic anomalies. I recall watching a special on the National Geographic Channel where they discussed a deep trench at a point in the triangle, and if you were to draw a straight line through the planet beginning at that point it would come out to another area of the world (somewhere in Asia) where there have also been anomalies. I believe a lot of the issues with the area have to do with how quickly storms arise. The same show I watched said something to the effect of, one moment you can be staring at a clear blue sky, turn you head for a minute, and when you return your gaze it'll be pitch black beyond the horizon. Far as the story is concerned, I wish they would elaborate on the chase of the humanoid creatures in suits. How exactly did three people die? It sounds to me to be more of a convenient excuse for some diving mishap. I don't know what Russia would have to gain with false allegations, but you figure, with all the deep sea exploration being financed today, and the availability of camera phones to document incidents, if these things exist then surely someone, somewhere, will catch them.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) by injured, you mean not physically, right? Of course....that's...not....what he meant. We all know the angle around here, people never wish for injuries and certainly not to their own terrible/annoying players who we can't stand watching; although everyone would love to see Mauer break his leg and miss the year, or Wise dislocate his shoulder diving for a ball. So yeah, he meant injured emotionally.
