  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) I massively disappointed in Watchmen. I was ready for it to be more, but some of the actors killed it for me(Malin Ackerman specifically. She is such a bad actress that I actually find her completely unattractive now). Rohrschach was awesome, The Comedian was decent in the few shots he got, and Dr Manhattan was cool, but Nite Owl, Silk Spectre II and Ozymandias were just awful. Are you a fan of the comic? I didn't really think too much of several main characters either (including Dr. Manhattan), but I assumed their personalities were similar to those of their respective comic book characters. You'd expect Rorschach and The Comedian to have strong personalities, and Manhattan to be emotionless, but aside from them, the others seemed to be ordinary people. Rorschach and The Nite Owl even mentioned when entering Ozmandias' liar that he was a pacifist who (to their knowledge) hadn't killed anyone.
  2. For someone unfamiliar with the comic book, and how much was added/left out, I thought Watchmen was a great movie. I'm sure many would disagree, but from my perspective it's just below Dark Knight in the superhero genre.
  3. This inability to finish a sweep is an embarrassment on par with how we soil our diapers in the metrodome. Yes, I understand winning 2/3 is good enough; but Jesus, what is this, 10/11 times we've won the first two/three games of a series and couldn't win the final one? And I believe we've only swept three, all at home. I wouldn't expect them to sweep all games, obviously. But atleast several more than we've seen. And while some people may dismiss it as chance (even though we've hardly faced aces in the final game, as this afternoon has shown), I believe there is just something about this roster that allows these moments to occur with frequency. I don't know if it's one player specifically, but there's a definite mindset in that clubhouse. Almost a "well, we won the first two, and everyone knows we'll lose the third, so we'll lose," just as in the Metrodome its "the minute something goes wrong we're going to lose." This needs to end, immediately. It's really getting to the point where I'm losing interest in this ballclub, even as they are still well within reach of the division lead.
  4. There's a part of me that won't be completely happy until every last member of the 2005 White Sox team has retired. Here's a player many of us wanted gone, hopefully to never return (unless he injected himself with HGH and found a fastball), and now he's back here. Awesome. I think we can be assured of the following: 1. Sweatiness 2. Steady diet of 87 mph fastballs. Maybe 90 if he's reaching back 3. Steady diet of floating breaking balls 4. Guillen leaving him out way too long because Garcia, not him, decides when enough is enough.
  5. Uh oh. Flies just don't converge at places without a reason. You have to try and find the source of the infestation. I'm afraid it may involve either dead animals or spoiled food hidden somewhere. Does it smell strange at any one place?
  6. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Jose Contreras-S-White Sox Aug. 15 - 9:21 am et Despite giving up six runs in 4 1/3 innings, Jose Contreras will remain in the rotation. "I don't have any choice," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Our options aren't much. Maybe (Saturday), we change our minds. But right now, we got to keep running him out there, hopefully for the best." After a bumpy start to the year, Contreras seemed to start turning things around in June and July. He's right back to being a liability, and you can bet the White Sox are looking for a replacement. I can't wait until Contreras leaves this team. I'll guarantee an issue here is that if he's not in the rotation, yet still healthy, Contreras will throw a fit pitching out of the bullpen so some rookie can take his spot. If there was a way I could guarantee we'd win Saturdays game, yet Contreras gives up 10 earned runs in two innings, I'd support it. I'm just tired of looking at him. Five years is enough on this team, old man. Move on. And yes, I believe Hudson is a better option. I'm sure he can equal Contreras' production without the high pitch count early or the methodical, almost torturous temp on the mound.
  7. QUOTE (sf_soxfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) What about tackling base coaches? Only incidents that have happened in the last day count towards stereotyping an entire fanbase.
  8. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Good one bro. Lets talk about how wrigley is a giant bar. It's even more interesting the 500th time!!! 501.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) Every team has some horses*** fans, including us, but you do hear about stuff happening like this in the Wrigley bleachers all the time. I mean, Wrigley isn't called the "beer garden" for nothing. Obviously their fans aren't dumping beer on players every game, but more often than any other stadium -- combined -- they'll throw trash on the field. It's a completely different animal being in those bleachers, where drunkeness is celebrated and renowned throughout the baseball world.
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) A sox fan tossed a beer on Rocco Baldelli a few years ago and it was a scene. I thought that was unintentional anyways. I remember the moment vaguely, but I thought he was going back for a ball near the wall and a fan, having his beer near the edge, knocked it over. Also, please don't ever reference anything used on WSI again.
  11. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) This can happen just about anywhere. Can we stop repeating this? No it can't. Ever.
  12. Updated information: http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/08...himself-in.html His name has been released. Good job finding a job in the future, buddy.
  13. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) It was one fan out of many other ones who would never do this. Judging them by that one fan would be like judging white sox fans by the fan who attacked the umpire. No, he was completely representative of the Cub fan base. And no, neither Ligue nor Dybas were representatives of ours. That's just the way it is. Admit it.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) How hilarious is it that the guy who threw the beer: Is wearing a cocked to the side cubs trucker hat A cubs wrist band A v-neck t shirt An awful pair of "trendy" sunglasses hanging from said v-neck And 99% there is a gay feaux-hawk underneith the cocked trucker hat If he was wearing a pair of awful checkered shorts with the shirt tucked in, he could be a cubs "fan" sterotype poster child. Add in that he's from Bartlett, a Northern suburb. You just knew he wouldn't be from Alsip or Carbondale. I'll crap myself if he goes to U of I and is some sort of business major. It'll almost be too perfect of a joke. He'll forever be a representative of the stereotypical Cub fan, as William Ligue and his son have become for us.
  15. If an incident like this occurred at Toyota Park, a security guard with access to a radio would work with security cameras to identify the person responsible. Even if they didn't have the information available immediately, they'd stick around and wait. In this instance, everyone knew it came from a small area. I would have thought it'd be more important to identify the correct person than try to remove them immediately. Even if it meant standing around for five minutes (because it doesn't appear he has a headset on). Unfortunately, these Cub fans (and Chicago Fire fans are the same) aren't going to rat on each other. Everyone saw him do it, yet, no one willfully confessed. I bet if the picture NSS posted made the papers, he'd be found. In this day and time, that goof had to have told friends and family he has going to the game. I'll bet he has long since shaved the facial hair, too.

  17. The dilemma here is Dye is battling for another (perhaps his last) extended contract, Podsednik as well, and Quentin is gradually recovering from his injury. None will be satisfied with taking off a few days a week to accommodate Rios; especially if any of them happen to be playing well and a day off is randomly thrown in. It should be an interesting dilemma.

  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Then why don't you? I was too busy locking up SSI at Toyota Park for drunken behavior to be chatting. I'll make up for it with this afternoon's chat.
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) And Pods? f*** Pods. He's the odd man out unless Dead is traded. Sorry, he has been productive; but he's not in the long term plans of this club.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Who would have thought Sowers would be on the verge of a complete game dominating victory against us. Just to put our embarrassing performance in perspective, Sowers hasn't had a complete game since July 28th 2006. 56 starts have passed since then. Although it looks like we'll avoid that fate.
