  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Midday Madness in chat? I had to go 4 pages back to find this, wtf Like the Holocaust, never again. let's go.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) After i left college, i became super paranoid about driving after drinking anything. There is just too much to lose anymore, people used to think a DUI was a rite of passage growing up(I hear it is still that way in Texas ), but now it is something that could seriously affect the rest of your life. Ask your parents about how DUI's were treated when they were growing up. My dad was drafted for Vietnam but couldn't go because, a year before the lottery, a drunk driver leaving a bar backed into my dad as he was walking home from work. It tore up his knee. Even though his brother at the time was a Chicago cop, nothing happened because DUI's weren't of any concern to anyone. Although yeah, drinking and driving will ruin your life. It's the stamp of death with any job, from law enforcement to Wal Mart. I'm even reluctant now to post anything offensive on Soxtalk. I found out awhile ago if you Google my name, on Page three of the results is a post I made in 2003 where I included my real name. I fear a future employer would find this, wonder to them self who this Flash Tizzle is, then without much effort come across something ridiculous in the "State your unpopular opinions" thread. Now I just use the chatroom to vent my rage.
  3. It's obviously an achievement to land on the moon, but really, what impact did that have on us, except for the phrase "we land on the moon but we cant (insert thing that hasn't been done)?" Society didn't change at all. If there were such a thing as an impact on society, I'd believe landing on the moon would make Americans even more arrogant. As far as The Beatles, they had other, better albums (I believe) than Abbey Road. Sergeant Peppers, for one. Wal Mart has had a much larger impact on lives than the Beatles or the moon landing.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Ozzie's an idiot? Yes Yes Yes Yes yes Even when you attempt to address my post, you sidetrack it with nonsense. You have to learn to condense your rambling posts. It's like peering into the mind of a psychopath reading you, sometimes. I really dislike this idea people always say of building confidence in a pitcher, like it's some video game where you need to accumulate points to use some special power. Here's an idea -- give him a few starts, let Richard pitch out of the bullpen, and see how different the two act in their roles. Is it really that difficult? Oh, back to work now: Yes Yes.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) Ozzie said he isn't ready, and Kenny has already traded the kid. To me that tells me they think they can do better, especially when they are willing to give up 6 years of Poreda. Ozzie's an idiot. It's not that Poreda isn't ready in his mind, it's just that he'd rather go with DJ "Every other f***ing breaking ball I throw is a hanger" Carrasco and his other relievers. It's his personal preference over his judgment of talent. As others have said, if it was up to Guillen he would never have promoted Beckham. Guillen isn't a scout -- it's not his duty to find out if someone isn't ready or not. Williams promoted him, HE thinks he's ready, so it's up to Guillen to find him work. And Williams is an idiot too if his idea of maximizing Poreda's value is leaving him in the majors to pitch out of the bullpen once every week. If it was all about trade value he'd be in Charlotte dominating. Just give the man the opportunity to start. Really, he's not even going to start ONE game? It's becoming ridiculous.
  6. I want everyone to store in their minds what's happening here with Poreda, so we NEVER again have to go through this bulls*** of having to argue that starters in the minors should be relievers on our team because "Buehrle and Garland did it," or some other stale argument. Our starters consistently pitch into the 6th/7th inning, and on the occasions one doesn't make it (The Clayton Richard Complex) DJ Carrasco comes in. It was clear to me from the onset that he wasn't going to find work as a starter, I have just been surprised he hasn't found work period.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Is that the 5lb tub? Yeah, it's the five pound container.
  8. Danks was all over the plate against Roberts. Start warming up CArrasco
  9. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) haha...check the salaries of Konerko, AJ, Thome, Roberts, Markakis..... I just did. They gave up all of their salaries and are just playing for the enjoyment of the game.
  10. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) They pay the hitters too. No they dont
  11. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) What game you watching? Just because he's striking out a few players doesn't mean his stuff is as crisp as usual. His fastball is down a few MPH and his changeup has hung more than a few occasions already in the second inning; including the HR.
  12. Danks looks like s***. Nothing he is throwing looks sharp.
  13. It's become a recurring theme around here to bring up the idea of resigning players who were once successful for our ballclub. He's gone and never coming back. Nor do I want him back; regardless of how he pitched in AAA. If he cant make Texas' bullpen or starting rotation (while not terrible, they're middle of the pack in both and could certaintly use him), what purpose could he serve here? If we're thinking of him even as a POSSIBLE 5th starter that's just an indictment on our minor league system. He's behind Richard, Poreda, Colon, Torres (and I haven't even seen him pitch); forgot about it. Even if none of those starters succeed, I'd just keep Poreda out to work out his problems.
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) These last weeks have been hell for me, but like they say.. there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 70% close on becomming a certified officer in Chicago. No s***. I never knew you were interested in law enforcement. Unless certified officer applies to some other profession I'm too stupid to figure out. Either way, good luck.

QUOTE (rowandrules83 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) I agree, ON Protein is a pretty good brand, tastes great too. The only thing I'll add is to shop around for a good price for it. In my experience, it's roughly 10 bucks more at GNC than it is elsewhere. Do you know where else they sell it? GNC had it for $55. I'll be more willing to look around after my next purchase, which is 20% off because I bought one of their Gold Cards.
  16. When I was younger it was The Neverending Story. I'd say right now, it'd have to be From Dusk Till Dawn.
  17. Flash Tizzle replied to Jake's topic in SLaM
Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein. I bought it at GNC. Before going to the store I did some research and found ON to be consistently rated among the best protein supplements for both content and value. There are approximately 80 servings per container, and each serving has 24G of Protein. Compared to other supplements I plan on taking six scoops a day on weight training day and three on cardio days. This should hold me over for three weeks.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) Definitely as problem. This is why the short term "stimulus" jobs aren't a real solution. We need to push forward into new technologies. A significant problem in my mind is the loss of low skilled, mid-high level paying positions. The death of the blue collared worker. Obviously it's period of time that's not going to resurrect any time soon, but really, the issue I'm reading about in papers and online often deals with 30/40/50 year old factory workers who were paid well for their line of work let go with a limited opportunity to find the same salary in another position. These people have families to care for and bills to pay, so I wonder, what can the government do to benefit them? They're seemingly let go by the thousands every day. Are they now forced to attend college or switch professions, probably beginning with a meager salary? Even if the economy does rapidly improve, will their old positions be given back? Probably not. It's as if we're becoming too efficient for our own goodI've always thought, as annoyed as people may become watching five people fill in a pot-hole across Chicago, it represents a necessary evil. These are exactly the type of jobs we need more of. Wasteless positions. Think about how many city workers are scared s***less that one day someone is going to find that, low and behold, it doesn't take that many people to efficiently fill in a pothole. That's why I'm glad to be associated with a profession that fights tooth and nail for job security. Even if some researcher from the University of Chicago analyzes data concerning police employment, compares it with other cities across the world, uses some unknown algorithm, and concludes that you only need 3,000 cops to be efficient, it'll never be taken under consideration. Even in the worst of economic times I agree with you that we need new technologies. The issue then becomes, with whatever is developed, employment opportunities have to benefit the common person. Not just some scientist or an applicant with a PHD in Mechanical Engineering.
  19. QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 07:00 AM) I work for an offshore drilling contractor, Transocean. I am currently riding a newly built drilling rig from Cape Town, South Africa to Port of Spain, Trinidad or even to the Louisiana coast. The rig was built in Singapore, my relief rode it from there to Cape Town. Rig will be working in the Gulf of Mexico finding new oil and gas by the end of the year. This should help you enjoy your experience
  20. I don't know if you read this thread B>W, but have you been disgusted as I've been lately with what's happening to our town? Christ, the stretch of Harlem Ave. between Route 83 and 127th is beginning to resemble Detroit with all the businesses that are leaving. Renees, the White Hen (which came out of f***ing nowhere), Ben Franklin, that large patch of land near Radio Shack yet to be turned into anything; it's getting ridiculous. I've also heard that the Blockbuster may not be renewing it's lease next year, so that may be another store lost. They need to take a model off of Oak Lawn and first, redevelop the Harlem Ave. area, and second, add more bars along the route. Joe Daniels and Trio are #1 and #2 with the amount of tax revenue given to the city.
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) St. Nick's? I used to go to grade school. Yeah, although I only attended 1st grade there. My brother went all the way through. Ms. Sheridan was my teacher
  22. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) That is a figure I was always mesmerized by when I was a kid. My cousin lived a block away and I would look forward to seeing the Indian when I would go visit him. Yeah, before my family moved to Palos I lived off 62nd and Lawndale -- which is fairly close to this.
  23. Not that it relates to the story, but the ending of Cooley High was filmed at Burr Oak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jENvGec4xmU You can clearly see the Alsip watertower at 7:48, and Burr Oak written on the tarp above his buddies grave several minutes before.
  24. Flash Tizzle replied to Brian's topic in SLaM
My dad had to drink Magnesium (something involving it) before a colon exam, and he said he felt great after. His hair and skin looked brighter, too. I've heard of many programs, but I cant speak from personal experience. You could google Master Cleanse, or just something as simple as eating nothing but apples for a few days. I just stick to the water for my detoxification.
  25. If only Dye was struggling for a bit before that hit, it would have been appropriate to say Dead has risen from his grave in Burr Ridge (with the assistance of some groundskeepers)
