    Ancient Rome..

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) Wow. Hard to believe they built all that in a day. Wait, no... uhm, nevermind. Can you show proof that it wasn't built in a day? Everybody keeps saying it wasn't, but has that ever been proven? I think Jugghead should enlighten us all and tell us why Rome wasn't built in a day. I wonder if a central force also built Rome in 7 days and that's why we got the phrase that Rome wasn't built in a day.

  3. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) I think you're crazy if you think a) Thomas will keep slugging .771 all year B) Rowand will only slug .414 all year Clearly, one is in a hot power streak and one is in a cold one. Besides, Slugging disparities are all about high variance anyway. Rowand had 24 jacks last year and 38 doubles. In my opinion, neither were serious flukes. He'll probably only hit 16-20 hr this year because of a cold power streak, but I think he's on pace for about the same number of doubles. I'd be surprised if he doesn't hit 55+ XBH. I hear what you are saying, but I guess I'm wondering how long Ozzie would keep Thomas at 3 if he goes into any kind of slump and ends up around .250. And Frank had 8 yrs of much better numbers than Rowand. The numbers right now show that Frank is the better number 3 hitter and until that changes, why move a lighter hitter based on what you think he might do? Like I said before, Ozzie will do what he thinks is best for the team to win and has proven that by his actions already. So this thread is pointless until Frank is slumping and not producing in the 3rd spot. Right now his numbers are better than Rowands, so there is no reason to change it.
  4. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Okay, so all you guys that think Thomas' average is going to come up....what about Rowand's power numbers? He had 60 extra base hits last year. Not entirely bad. This year he's been in a bit of a power slump, but he has the tools to be the type of complete player to hit from the three hole. He definitely showed that last year. Rowand's prime is also probably still ahead of him, whereas Thomas's is way in the rear view mirror.... When Rowand's numbers are better than whoever is batting 3rd, then it's his spot. Until then, Rowand is only batting about .280 to Frank's .260. And according to you, Rowand is on the low end for OBP at .339 while Frank is at .357. Frank has a SLG of .771 while Rowan is only at .414. So again, why put the .771 in the 5th spot and move the .414 to the 3rd spot?
  5. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) .263 is hitting well? Maybe not, but an OBP of .357 and a SLG of .771 is better than .339 and .414 and .281 isn't much better than .263, so why put a .771 SLG 5th and a .414 3rd?
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) What makes you think Frank can't get on base more than Rowand now? He sports a tidy .370 OBP right now. while Rowand's career high was .360 last season. Did I mention that Frank has 6 HRs in 1/6th the number of at bats as Rowand. HRs are good. You want to have more opportunities to hit them. Bat frank higher, and he gets more chances. He also gives the guys lower in the order more chances by making fewer outs than Rowand. But the Sox are winning and there isn't much to b**** about, so back to the easy target, Frank. With the way Ozzie does things, I have to believe that if he didn't think Frank would help the team batting 3rd, he wouldn't put him there.
  7. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Uhm, sorry about that. Hope I didn't creep any of your guests out. The ghost in the rainsuit they got used to, but you with nothing on under your rainsuit and opening it did. And then your following trip where your rainsuit was just like the one from the naked gun really creeped out the women.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) pffff haunted houses and crap like that are so over-rated..... you have to be extremely gullible to believe in all of that crap..... Not really. I was talking to my neighbors one nite while I was walking my dog and they asked why I was standing in my backyard earlier in the week with a rain suit on. I laughed and told them they just saw our ghost. The new owners of the house next door also saw that figure in our backyard and he actually stopped staying there because he keeps seeing a woman in their house. I was laughing at him 1 nite over the winter cause his van got stuck in the back of the house and he couldn't get out, so he had to sleep there that nite. He kept walking from room to room telling the woman ghost that he meant no harm and was remodeling the house to make it more comfortable for her too. I also used to have friends of mine stay in my house to watch my dog when I went on vacation, and they all complained about some guy in a rain suit standing in the doorway while they were sleeping. Quite a few people actually saw my ghost and think that I'm doing something and don't believe it's a ghost.
  9. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) But it was in a past tense as in " That is where they hung people". I didn't say you were wrong, I just put up the usage of the words.
  10. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) It's hung, but i'm not the grammar police. usage For both transitive and intransitive senses 1b the past and past participle hung, as well as hanged, is standard. Hanged is most appropriate for official executions but hung is also used . Hung is more appropriate for less formal hangings .
  11. QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Yep grazing away. The only thing helping me keep my weight from going up is the fact that I work up in the loft and walk up and down the stairs all day (usually carrying my 10 month old boy). One of these days I will lose weight......just not today....and probably not tomorrow either since there are still a few Drumsticks left in the freezer. I think your wife was only singing the song about giving her a home where the buffalo roam and didn't mean it literally.

  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) damn, Hawk explained it too, and I cant remember. Do you remember the situations with the errors? Maybe that would help stimulate my memory. The runs were earned when the double was hit. Wasn't the play a hit and error on the throw to allow the runners to advance?
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I agree.. We need a pot stirring smiley. Or a separate section for cub crap. Who cares about them or how we match up against them? Are they in the AL Central now? Until then, I don't care how many games below .500 they are or why their fans think they have a better team than the Sox.
  15. Who are the cubs and why do I even care? When you throw an "if" before something, then don't bother debating it. When ifs and buts are beer and beernuts, then we'd be having a party. I would rather be comparing the Sox to the Twins cause the cubs don't matter.
  16. I'm sure nothing is wrong in Cuba. Hell, look at the great job we did at Abu Ghraib. No problems there either. Unfortunately, our army is not perfect and will do dumb things. I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone destroyed a copy of the quran. Remember that there are going to be people in our own army that will want to do something like that to muslims for all the flag burning that we saw on tv over the yrs. And I don't think that Nuke or anybody else on this board can honestly say that our army is so well trained, that there is no predjudice of any kind in it. Look at our own country. We still have tons of hatred toward race, religion, and sexual preference. Why would we think there isn't any in our military? And I'm not trying to bash America or our military. I'm just trying to point out that there are idiots everywhere that are going to do dumb things.
  17. QUOTE(mreye @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) There's 200 million acres of National Forest. Our kids will be just fine. And even if we have less forests, we still have lake Michigan to swim in and enjoy.
  18. QUOTE(BigNDfan80 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Absolutely, if I lived in Chicago. So that means you must go to a lot of road games then? :finger Get off your lazy ass and go to some games before you b**** about attendance.
  19. If we get the bad yr, then all the folks that hated the trade can say "I told ya so." I picked it for them in case they are hipocrits and can't admit that they like to see things go badly so they can jump on the board and b**** about everything.
  20. Just curious. Why are you happy with 2 for 1 over 1/2 price?

    IPass

I-Pass just wants to collect the money up front. Just think if a million people buy an I-Pass with $40 in tolls on it and the $10 deposit always on it how much money that means for the toll authority. Your I-Pass has another $40 added on to it when it reaches $10 and that comes right off your charge card. Why do you have to always have your money tied up? Why can't they bill you for the tolls after you use them? They have your charge card and a $10 deposit, so why not deduct from the card weekly or monthly for the tolls that you actually used instead of paying for something you haven't used yet? And now things are gonna cost more in Illinois because trucks tolls are going up whether they have an I-Pass or not. So we will pay for that increase when we purchase things here in Illinois just like we did when the gas prices went up. Those fuel increases and taxes the trucks have to pay get passed right on to us, so in the long run, we really won't save all that much. Would you rather have that $40 in your pocket to spend now or the comfort of knowing that you won't have to dig for change when you want to take a toll road?
  22. And it's funny that all MILF's can be a FMIL, but not all FMIL's can be a MILF. Didn't Lincoln say that in one of his speeches?
