  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Hoffman goes 6.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K Not the best. Faced a good Virginia team though.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) +1, especially given the White Sox lack of trust in high school pitching (at least, according to Hawk and Stone) Exactly. Turner is off to a fast start this season batting 8/16 (all singles), 4 RBIs, 2 BBs, 0 K's, 5-5 in stolen bases and has a 1000 Fielding % through 4 games.
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Last 5 #3 picks: 2013 - Jonathan Gray 2012 - Mike Zunino 2011 - Trevor Bauer 2010 - Manny Machado 2009 - Donovan Tate So.... Two appear to be busts, one is elite, and the last two are too early to tell though Zunino is moving toward the bust column, but still has a lot of time to recover. After Rodon and Hoffman, there aren't any guys that you can look at and know a guy is a MLB'er. If the Sox miss out on those two, I am all for them saving money in the first to spread out on guys throughout the draft that slide, like they did with Michaleski last year. Of course another guy could have a great year and vault himself into the conversation, but at this point, I dont see that can't miss guy. If those two are gone, I'm taking Trea Turner. Not a doubt in my mind.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 35m ECU RHP Jeff Hoffman was 94-96 in the first, got the last out on a 90 mph change Any further update on how he's pitching?
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) The Sox were rumored to be willing to spend $120 million on Tanaka. Say they're willing to spend that on other free agents too of a similar ilk. If you give out the $48 million, that pool of money has now decreased to $72 million, and over the 6 year deal, you can now only commit $12 mill per year rather than $20 mill. That is a huge, huge difference. Players like Price, Latos, Iwakuma, and even Fister become virtually impossible to sign 2 years from now, and we don't know what's going to come over from Cuba, Japan, and even Korea. If the Sox trade for someone, they may not be able to extend them. They may not be able to re-sign all the guys they'd like to on the current roster to extensions, thinking specifically of Quintana and Jones right now. It's like when you get a big check and someone says "don't spend it all in one place." This is like that, except that the Sox already had that money. If Scherzer becomes available in two years, I think Hahn would definitely take a run at him. He would get more than Tanaka but by then, Hahn will have Dunn, Keppinger, and Beckham off the books. Use that money on Scherzer and your rotation is set for the next 5 years. Sale Scherzer Quintana (extension) Danks (will become FA after that year) Beck/Bassitt
  6. I really like Abreu's professionalism so far both on the field, in the media, and in the clubhouse. Beckham and Eaton already gave him the nickname "Yogi" because he looks like a bear lol. Like a poster above said if this all goes as planned, the core of this line up has so much potential. The core of Abreu Garcia Davidson Eaton Viciedo Semein Mix in couple key free agents and this team can be competing for a while, but everything has to go as planned.
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Would love for Hoffman, Rodon or Turner. Not sold on Kolek Same. Any one of those 3 and I would be beyond happy.
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Short BA piece on Trea Turner's debut as well. Video too. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/gam...ss-trea-turner/ If he has a good year, Turner would be number 1 on my board.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) Source? Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 1h Source mentioned #WhiteSox, #Marlins, #Dodgers, #Mariners in connection with Chris Capuano. Have heard his ask price is still high.
  10. Tyler Beede stat line yesterday against Long Beach State. 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. And got the win. Solid line.
  11. White Sox interested in LHP Chris Capuano according to Chris Cotillo. Asking price remains high though.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) People have noted Montero in this thread right? Lol wow. That's just awful. I see he's letting himself go a little bit.
  13. Not saying I'd be happy with this but what Sox got Santana for 3 years 36 million with an option year. If he does well, those 2 years, Sox fan flip him for better prospects most likely for the 2nd round pick Sox would give up by getting him.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I like the idea of picking up Jesus Montero, but I don't believe he is good enough to stick at catcher, and the Sox have enough of a logjam at 1B already. From the Mariners, Triunfel is a guy I like too, even if he's a similar player to Leury. Yeah I was thinking about him too. I'm just thinking out loud here guys. To me Mariners make sense only if they miss out on Cruz. Would Franklin be available too or would he be worth more than De Aza?
  15. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Is Jesus Montero even serviceable anymore? If so, is he any better than Phegley or Flowers? I mean he only had 1 bad year, and that was last year in which he only got 101 at bats. He hit 208 with 3 HRs and 9 RBIs. But the year before, he put up a 260 batting average with 15 HRs and 62 RBIs in 515 at bats, and only struck out 99 times. Doesn't walk much though.
  16. Seattle Mariners come to mind. Just read on mlbtraderumors that Franklin Gutierrez will not play for them in the 2014 season because of a relapse of his gastrointestinal injury. All they have in the outfield now is Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley. If they miss out on Cruz, I could see them definitely be interested in De Aza. Montero comes to my mind that can possibly help immediately from the Mariners. What are your guys thoughts about this and where else you see De Aza is a good fit?
  17. Dayan Viciedo for me. The kid is only going to be 25 and still has tons of potential. This year he breaks out. My breakout minor league player this year is going to be Trayce Thompson.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Leyson Septimo has signed with an Atlantic League (Ind) team, so he's gone. Only remaining MiLB FA's who were with Sox org that remain unsigned with any team: RHP Simon Castro (my guess is the Sox re-sign him) RHP Johansel Delgado (23 yo in Rk lg last year, hard to say what happens with him) 1B/OF Jimmy Gallagher (he's 28 now, and I don't see the Sox needing his services, he's a MiLB bench guy) RHP Ramon Troncoso (I don't see him back either) I'm glad I don't have to hear about Septimo anymore. I do hope Sox do resign Castro.
  19. Had a conference call with him and here is what Eaton had to say. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/call-r...lder-adam-eaton Pretty cool to see that Hahn was firing him up and cussing at him. For me as a fan, that's pretty cool to see a GM do that.
  20. When are teams eligible to sign these international players? Around draft time?
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) He's the only guy I wrote about based mostly on numbers/age, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark. As for why he isn't in the states yet, there could be a number of reasons. One, he may have started his development later, maybe even signed at 18 instead of 16 or 17. Alternately, it could be his stuff just isn't that good but plays well against DSL competition. Hard to say for sure. But if he's not in the US in 2014 at all, it is likely the latter. Ok thank you.
  22. I could honestly say that I just started playing attention to the minors a couple seasons ago so I really don't know who really any of these international signings are but from your write up, I was definitely impressed with Carlos Diaz's pitching numbers. Since he is turning 20, why hasn't he made his way to the states yet?
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) Conor Gillaspie would be at the upper range of prices I'm willing to pay No way. Highest I would go is Snodgrass or Nester Molina.
  24. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) The guys I liked were: Yirver Gilbert Lara Brandon Benavente Miguel Flames Alexander Paredes I am hoping that the Sox go all out on two guys this signing period, which will be a huge boost to the system. I'd be ecstatic with Paredes and Benavente.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Wendelken was one I almost put on there, though I was running out of room. I could have written up another 10 guys easily. The system is just a lot deeper this year. I think Lowry will need another year in rookie ball, probably at Great Falls if I had to guess. Yeah I think Wendelken can be at AA by the end of this next season with a good year. With Lowry, with a good couple of months, you see him at Kannapolis?
