Offseason Targets
Short of acquiring two leigitmate SP this offseason, I agree, the sox can't afford to trade from their SP depth. But if they can go a sign a mid to TOR starter (Stroman more likely than Bauer) and another solid backend piece like Quintana, trading Cease for a legit RF that solves a lot of problems and a closer makes plenty of sense IMO (per my proposal). Big ifs, though.

Are Dunning and/or Cease Slotted into the 2021 Starting Rotation?
Perhaps, but I don't think many, if any, teams are going to be beating down his door to hand him guaranteed dollars.

Rodon will be without a doubt non-tendered. But wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox try to get him back on a cheap 1 year deal. Rodon may be in minor league deal territory when the Sox non-tender him, quite frankly.

I think this is what we see. Giolito Stroman/Bauer (former much more likely) Keuchel Cease Quintana (or some other 1 year stop gap SP) Dunning starts the year in AAA. I am sure he'll be needed before too long. Kopech arrives in mid June/early July. Neither Dunning or Kopech can be expected to throw 150+ innings next year. I think one of Cease or Dunning is getting traded for a RF this offseason, though. So that will change things.

Clint Frazier does nothing to shore up this teams short comings.

Offseason Targets
I kind of doubt the Mets will be buyers, and if they want to get anything for Nimmo, down is the time. My (somewhat realistic) dream scenario is that trade + signing Brantley + signing Stroman and Q for the rotation. Really helps get the lineup more lefthanded, and Brantley provides nice insurance for Nimmo (and Eloy) who seem to get hurt a lot. Brantley can play LF and rotate DH with Eloy until Vaughn arrives, and otherwise shuffle through the OF. I think its unlikely cause I don't think the Sox are going to mostly push Engel/Leury out of roles, but it would be really nice situation, but obviously a bit of luxury. Anderson SS, Brantly DF/LF/RF, Abreu 1B/DH, Eloy LF/DH, Moncada 3B, Grandal C, Robert CF, Nimmo RF, Madrigal 2B with Vaugh in the mix coming May. Rotation: Giolito, Stroman, Kuechel, Dunning, Q with Kopech arriving in June Pen + Diaz. SEXY SQUAD.

Offseason Targets
Cease for Benintendi would be terrible. I am rooting for Cease+++ for Nimmo and Diaz. My +++ would be Collins, Flores and L. Gonzalez. But you can insert whatever backend 40 man guys you want. But I think that's a pretty fair trade.

Isn’t Oscar Colas like a 50 FV prospect? Penciling him in for anything seems aggressive.

This. Philly isn't going to just hand us Bryce Harper. You guys are nuts.

McCann
Look past home runs, average and runs batted in. You’ll become a more knowledgeable fan if you do. There’s a lot more to the game.

Lol Harper? Cmon guys...at least discuss marginally realistic targets. Didn’t take long for the dreaming to occur.

Why was Dunning pulled after 15 pitches?
No. He could have had Rodon actually face the batter.
-
Offseason Targets
Yeah I would. I’d probably take a super utility guy with a focus on IF over Mendick. But yeah. My lowest priority.

Crochet's arm fine
If it is TJS, i assume this is another Kopech situation where he is going to be on the mlb IL all next year? Or can the Sox option him?
-
Offseason Targets
1. Mid to upper rotation SP 2. Left handed hitting RF that can play some D 3. Back rotation SP on 1 year deal 4. Further rotation options in the Rodon on cheap 1 year deal after non tendered mold 5. backup catcher 6. utility player that can play all over to pair with Leury on bench.

Why was Dunning pulled after 15 pitches?
The Rodon IBB was also a bad call. I think he preferred Rodon not having to throw another pitch and was confident Foster could get out of it (he had been so good all year), but it was head scratcher in hindsight. Maybe cost them the game. Problem is, no IBB there and Rodon has to face that batter. In hindsight it’s easy to say that was the right call - and I think it was - but I can at least understand RR logic. In real-time I didn’t hate it.

Why was Dunning pulled after 15 pitches?
Pulling Dunning was absolutely the right call. But we needed 2-3 innings out of Crochet, Foster to not have his worst outing of the year and not need to go to Rodon. Once Crochet went down and we had Bummer in in the 2nd inning, I knew 3 runs wasn’t going to be nearly enough.

Will the Front Office Fire Renteria?
I hope sincerely that they do, but I highly doubt that they will.

LFG! Give me: Timmy, Moncada, Abreu, Eloy DH, Grandal, Robert, Engel, Leury LF, Madrigal That is our best lineup right now. I am guessing we'll see Engel in LF and Mazara in RF tho, which I guess is OK.

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
Feed me all the crow. Sox probably saved a lot of money on this one, and thankfully, will have no competition for his services the next two seasons. Pay the man his money. He deserves every dollar. Mark 1 in the W column for JR.

Playoff roster adjustments
EE sucks but he could be useful in a pinch hitting situation maybe. I’d keep him. Zero use for Gio Gonzalez tho.
