Makes sense

Just weird that none of the other rounds have breaks like that. Maybe to reset rotations? Weird in any event.
-
With this being in a bubble, may get some very weird game times. So happy I’m working from home for foreseeable future.
-
Why is there three days off after the wild card games! Seems kind of weird.
-
Yes. He basically said he has no idea what Mazara is doing and he’s caught between approaches and swings. Not very encouraging words.
-
The talk of this structure remaining after 2020 is awful. I’d you’re going to expand, make it 6 teams or go back to division winners and a wild card game. 8 teams is awful. It works for 2020, but that should be it.

Fry reinstated from IL, Flores to Schaumburg
ChiSox59 replied to TomPickle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they were going to bring up Vaughn, they would have done it a few weeks ago. I think they're making the right call. I'd rather have him for 162 in 2027 than 15 games in 2020. -
This. It gets a lot easier next year if you bring in a real RF this offseason. As for this season, I’m totally good with Mazara being used sparingly at this point. Guy just flat out sucks. Fine with them using EE Mostly as they have been, but I’d DH Abreu, play Grandal at 1B and catch McCann a little more than they have been (tho certainly not everyday).
-
I really disliked RR as the manager. That being said, he’s probably going to win AL manager of the year and I don’t see the Sox letting him go after that (or anytime soon, frankly).

Hahn: Andrew Vaughn "could help the team this season"
ChiSox59 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s already a lock Kopech will be kept down. You cannot expect the guy to to throw 150 MLB innings next year. His workload will be managed in the minors and he’ll arrive in mid June. Vaughn will be up late April once they get the extra year. -
This. It’s frankly not really close. If / when McCann plays everyday, he’s going to get very exposed. Grandal has a very long track record of being one of the best 2-3 catchers in the game. Bottom line is this is a good problem to have and the amount of handwringing on here over having two good catchers is asinine.

Dallas Keuchel leaves game with back injury
ChiSox59 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is nothing more than roster management. Keuchel will be back to pitch 9/17 against the Twins, which RR said was the plan yesterday. -
Big difference between $330M and $73M. Harper obviously would have been great. But I’ve moved in from the free agent pursuits of 18-19 winter, and it’s best everyone does. Still need to go find that RF tho.
-
Because there are a lot of meatball fans who (wrongly) think James McCann is a better option and feel the need to pile on Grandal, despite him quite literally being a very very good player since like a week into the season. Yesterday was a rough defensive game for him though, and I will agree that his defense a whole has been a little worse than expected. But I think he'll be fine, and still believe he's a phenomenal fit on this roster.
-
RIP. Actually could really use Rodon right now.
-
Yasmani Grandal is a really good player. Yes, he had a really bad game last night defensively. Yes, he will be fine. No, James McCann isn't going to sign a long term contract here. Yes, Grandal is going to be the far superior player the next 3 years. /thread

Grandal is good. Yasmani Grandal since August 1: .273/.393/.489 5 HR 14 RBI 18 BB 29 K -per Chuck Garfein on Twitter

Frye to IL / Bummer to 45 day IL / Team adds Alex Mcrae

Hamilton is hurt, no? -
Its a thing of beauty. This kid looks like a .330+ career hitter. Defense isn't as good as I expected, but I hope so of that is just nerves and getting comfortable.
-
I think his stuff could maybe play up a bit in the pen. Future pen pieces: Bummer, Burdi, Heuer, Foster, Marshall, Hamilton, Cordero, Fry, Reynaldo and Thompson is a pretty decent core to start with.
-
You don't DFA a guy like Lopez when you still have an option. Tho the Sox just used ReyLo's last option, so I think its time they move him to the pen and hopefully he can find a home there for 2021 and beyond. Because we don't really have time or luxury to fuck around with him in the rotation any longer.
-
Unfortunately, we need Rodon in the rotation now. Probably going to piggy back Rodon and Gio G to start.
-
At this point, when Grandal isn't catching he should be at 1B and DH with Abreu doing the other. When McCann isn't catching, I wish they'd mix him in at DH/1B....and gasp....RF. Won't argue with you there.
