I actually agree that playing Engel everyday isn’t the answer, but I would play him more. I don’t think Sox should cut Mazara today or anything, but he’s not returning next season, that I’m confident of.

Kind of a big game. A 3 game lead with Twins only having 8 to play is close to insurmountable. Twins would have to go 7-1 to Sox 4-6 the rest of the way to pass them if the Sox win today. A win comes very close to locking up division. I hate trotting our ReyLo, but lining up Keuchel for playoffs IS more important. Still stings. Especially for me personally as all my friends are Twins fans and I want nothing more than a shove a huge W in their face today.

Lol, Ray - there is a zero percent chance Mazara is back next year. He’s going to be relatively expensive at $7-8M. Zero chance he’s back.

It hasn’t been pretty for awhile. But he’s still a well above average player even in his current state. He’s getting invaluable experience and will certainly improve. Hope something clicks before the playoffs tho.

I haven’t studied the pitching rotation to see how to lineup up Gio and Keuchel for the playoffs, but maybe they’re going to go with a 6 man rotation to close out the season to help facilitate that. With ReyLo and JS still on the active roster, appears they’ll both make a start this weekend. Otherwise what’s the point of holding them up?

The talk of this structure remaining after 2020 is awful. I’d you’re going to expand, make it 6 teams or go back to division winners and a wild card game. 8 teams is awful. It works for 2020, but that should be it.

If they were going to bring up Vaughn, they would have done it a few weeks ago. I think they're making the right call. I'd rather have him for 162 in 2027 than 15 games in 2020.

This. It gets a lot easier next year if you bring in a real RF this offseason. As for this season, I’m totally good with Mazara being used sparingly at this point. Guy just flat out sucks. Fine with them using EE Mostly as they have been, but I’d DH Abreu, play Grandal at 1B and catch McCann a little more than they have been (tho certainly not everyday).

I really disliked RR as the manager. That being said, he’s probably going to win AL manager of the year and I don’t see the Sox letting him go after that (or anytime soon, frankly).

It’s already a lock Kopech will be kept down. You cannot expect the guy to to throw 150 MLB innings next year. His workload will be managed in the minors and he’ll arrive in mid June. Vaughn will be up late April once they get the extra year.
