Latest deck shuffling: Jones to 60 day IL; Burr reinstated; Tilson Up
Nate Jones has a career 3.12 ERA and 3.41 FIP. He was very, very, very good. Unfortunately his body didn't hold up its end of the bargain, and he may very well be done. The Sox won't be picking up his 2020 option at a $5.15M. But Nate has a provided a good deal of value to the Sox over the years.

The Sox had a team option they exercised.

Rodon to IL; Giolito activated
Most likely unless Hahn tries to get cute and offer him some sort of incentive laden extension with options so he can rehab in the organization he feels comfortable with and isn't faced with signing a minor league deal. I think that Hahn has a fair deal of leverage here, but we'll see. The non-tender route definitely has some merit as paying Rodon $10-11M for at most 30 more starts (many of which will be pretty rusty) before FA seems fairly rich.

Sox @ Indians (510pm CT)
Yah Monday-Wednesday games at 610 ET first pitch. I kind of like it, personally.

Sox @ Indians (510pm CT)
Garcia CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Alonso DH, McCann C, Delmonico LF, Anderson SS, Tilson RF Nova on the hill versus Trevor Bauer. Let's win a game.

Sox certainly won't be picking up their team option next offseason.

Totally fine with Tilson getting another shot, though I don't expect much. I was thinking this may be a bummer for Delmonico - I kind of doubt they add Tilson back to the roster just to DFA him again in a week or less when Eloy comes back. I assumed Tilson was out of options since he's already been removed from the 40 man once. BUT.....it appears the Sox outrighted him off the 40-man that time and did not DFA him due to a lack of options. Tilson still has 1 remaining, so he can be demoted back to AAA when Eloy returns without running him through waivers.

adam engel or charlie tilson?
If the Sox gave Charlie Tilson a full season of at bats, I’d be shocked if his OBP was .280, let alone his batting average. And 40 steals? Cmon man. At least try to pay attention.

Tim Anderson AL Player of the Month
Tim has reverted back to swinging at some garbage pitches the last week / week and ago or so. Hopefully he can snap out of it. With his inability to take a walk, he really needs to hit like .275 plus to be a meaningful offensive contributor.

Fulmer and Ruiz optioned
Releasing players with options is beyond idiotic. Even if you personally don't think they're any good. No reason to give away assets when you don't need to.

Engel and Frare Optioned to AAA
I must have missed that, but definitely hope that is the case. If its not Rodon to the 60 day DL, Jordan Stephens and Kodi Mediros would likely be the first 2 on the DFA / outright off 40 man chopping block, I would imagine.

Engel and Frare Optioned to AAA
Pretty sure the Sox will either pick up the tab to move Alonso in July/August, or just release him before he hits the 526 at bats. They'd be insane to let that vest, barring some drastic improvement at the plate. Alonso is a better hitter than he has been, but its pretty easy to improve on his bat at the DH spot.

Fulmer and Ruiz optioned
Aren't you a "sports writer"? How do you lack such basic fundamental understanding of roster management? Its mind blowing.

adam engel or charlie tilson?
Seriously dude?

Engel and Frare Optioned to AAA
If Engel could hit .250 with a .330 OBP, he'd be one of hte better CF in the game. That is never going to happen. Merkin tweeted that Eloy isn't coming back without a rehab assignment first. My guess is Burr off IL and Matt Foster. Rodon moved to 60 day DL to make room on 40 man.

Engel and Frare Optioned to AAA
If it is Tilson, need to clear a 40 man spot. Rodon to 60 day IL would be most obvious, but if not some in the minors but on the 40 Man is getting DFAd.

Engel and Frare Optioned to AAA
Pretty sure they’re going to send Eloy out for a quick rehab. Is guess Burr off IL and Tilson. Kemp for MLB minimum would be kind of entertaining though. Unfortunately we frankly don’t have any better options in AAA.

About time. Corresponding move tomorrow.

I love when people say we should release players with options. Learn the rules.

Covey to Rotation (for Rodon)
Pretty much all FA SP you sign in their early 30s are coinflips to be good a couple seasons down the road. Building rotations primarily out free agency is very difficult. Which is why it is huge that (hopefully) we have four rotation spots covered with Kopech, Cease, Lopez and Giolito. I do suspect at least 1 of those guys will make under 10 starts for the Sox in 2021, which is another reason why I suspect the Sox will try to work something out to keep Rodon around. Other impending FA that could be of interest (some have been mentioned, some haven't) are Wood, Wacha, Odorizzi, Pineda, Ryu, Gibson, and Roark. I would love to shoot for the moon and get Cole, but I realize those odds are long. I'd be fine with something in the middle like a combo of Wheeler/Wacha/Pineda/Gibson from the rightside paired with Wood, Ryu or Bumgarner from the leftside. Those guys shouldn't command huge pay days and long term contracts that could cripple the Sox if they fall apart. I personally prefer the younger guys of that group in Wood, Wacha and Wheeler. I am curious to see what kind of deal Bumgarner ends up with next year. He hasn't been the Bumgarner he was in his early and mid 20s, but obviously had big name recognition and the casual fan probably still thinks he is quite good. I personally think he'll stay in the NL though because he loves to hit.

Covey to Rotation (for Rodon)
I have a far greater than basic knowledge of baseball's free agent market. I said I would prefer to wait and sign someone better than Keuchel. I think there are several pitchers who are better options for the White Sox than Keuchel who are free agents next season. Apparently you think Keuchel is the clear cut #2 option. This has nothing to do with knowledge of the markets and everything to do with how we value a particular player. It is a matter of opinion. Get over yourself.

Covey to Rotation (for Rodon)
I would prefer Porcello, Bumgarner and Wheeler to Keuchel personally. I would also prefer spending less and going after guys like Wood or Gibson over signing a decling Keuchel (depending on dollars). It all comes down to years of commitment and dollars when dealing with SP in their 30s. I think we all can agree that the Sox are going to need to supplement their rotation via FA this offseason. Keuchel is an option, just not my favorite option.
