Delmonico Optioned (Eloy likely to return Mon)
Yep, hadn’t looked at Charlottes box score. Just did and was coming back to edit. Maybe it is a bullpen day after all as those seemed like likeliest two to me.
-
Palka time
I’d bring him back. I’d probably DH him most of the time as a Eloy / Palka OF is just dreadful, but i still think he could be a decent platoon piece while he’s paid next to nothing.

Delmonico Optioned (Eloy likely to return Mon)
So that’s good. Also imagine we’ll see a roster move for a SP tomorrow. Detwiler or maybe Despaigne. I’d be surprised if Sox did a bullpen day. I’d prefer to see Lambert or Flores. It won’t be Lambert though because he last pitched in Thursday. Flores last pitched Wednesday, so he would be on only 4 days rest too. So realistically probably will be neither.

OVERVIEW FOR 2020
That guy is also the starting CF, so.....where is Delmonico going to get bats? Eloy and Leury are going to be in the lineup most every day. Tilson will get RHP at bats before Delmonico. I guess it could work if Alonso was DFA, but that isn’t happening yet.

Rodon TJS
Similar ya. Pineda too. The fact that they were already non tendered and went to a different team makes it a bit different.
-
Rodon TJS
Which is why you extend him for three years for a total of ~50% more than $10M and then get a series of team friendly options after that. Then it makes sense. The risk for the Sox is relatively low. The upside would be significant. Obviously it gives Rodon a fair deal more security than he would get if he were non tendered. I know I won’t convince you personally of this plans merits, but I think it makes a ton of sense for both sides. 3 years $15-17M isn’t very much money in today’s game, and this isn’t a move that is going to really affect the Sox in a negative way even if Rodon is never an effective pitcher again.

OVERVIEW FOR 2020
Nah. They don’t need 5 OF - Eloy, Leury, Cordell, Tilson and Delmonico. It’ll be Delmonico.

OVERVIEW FOR 2020
Yah that’s a bit different then. I think considering sources here is important, but definitely disappointing if true. But hey, he hit a bomb today!

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
I'd way rather just sink or swim with Lambert or Flores. These guys are both 24 years old, so not super young. Lets see what we got.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
Back on topic - seems like maybe Banuelos will not be placed on the IL. Would have imagined that move would have been announced by now.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
Its not just his framing that is bad. He's an all around horrible defensive catcher. Its beyond obvious when watching him. Like I said, he can hit a little bit. He's always had a good eye - the power surge he's seen the last 9-10 months has definitely been a little surprising.

OVERVIEW FOR 2020
Disaster seems aggressive. His BABIP is way down. I don't have the capability to watch Dash games, so not sure what is behind the lower BABIP this season, but his numbers would be pretty decent if his BABIP was where it was and should be. I definitely agree that he needs to be better, though.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
I'd take the under on Narvaez being in the league in 3 years. He isn't very good. He can hit a little bit, but not nearly enough if he isn't catching. I know he's been pretty good this year, but I don't see it lasting. And Colome has been quite good. The Sox have done OK with catchers. They turned Tyler Flowers into a decent big league catcher, and a very well respected game caller and defensive catcher. He got poor grades as a defensive catcher in the minors. Narvaez, while a terrible defensive catcher, the Sox plucked him out the minor league phase of the rule 5 draft and turned him into one of the better closers in the game. Thats not bad either. It took Phegley over 4 years to become a playable option in Oakland. He is not a loss.

OVERVIEW FOR 2020
I remain fully in the Cole + Castellanos or Ozuna + Grandal train. Resign Abreu. Cole - 6 years $160M Castellanos - 4 years, $55M or Ozuna - 4 years, $65M Grandal - 3 years, $45M Abreu - 2 years, $24M Alex Wood - 2 years, $22M OD 2020: CF: Leury, 3B: Moncada, LF: Eloy, 1B: Abreu, RF: Castellanos/Ozuna, Catcher: Grandal, SS: Anderson, DH: Collins, 2B: Yolmer. BN: McCann, Tilson, Rondon Rotation: Cole, Giolito, Cease, Lopez and Wood (Kopech starts in AAA) Bullpen: Colome, Herrera, Fry, Burr, Hamilton, Frare, pick 2 of (Burdi, Ruiz, Vieira, Fulmer, Marshall - Fulmer and Vieira will be out of options) Mid-June 2020: CF: Robert, 3B: Moncada, LF: Eloy, 1B: Abreu, RF: Castellanos/Ozuna, Catcher: Grandal, SS: Anderson, DH: Collins, 2B: Madrigal. BN: McCann, Leury, Yolmer Rotation: Cole, Giolito, Cease, Lopez and Wood (insert Kopech for 1st injury) Bullpen: Same as above. Sox spent just over $300M.....what they would have given MM, on 5 players. Is it a pipedream? For sure. But that would be my "Plan A" for right now.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
Sox should have traded for Edwin Jackson. Jays only gave up cash.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
Yah, its going to be one of those three (or Fulmer). Though we'll likely see a 40 man bullpen arm (Ruiz, Frare of Vieira) up for the weekend before Flores, Lambert or Detwiler get the call on Monday. Or maybe we see some sort of minor trade / waiver claim over the weekend. Rodon can be moved to the 60 day IL to make room for any of those options.
-
I really miss this.
Avi Garcia is not good, was not a part of the future, and I am glad the Sox are not wasting more at bats on him. Yes I would rather watch some combination of Cordell, Tilson, Leury and Delmonico over Avi.

Banuelos leaves game with shoulder soreness
Suspect an IL stint is upcoming. Hopefully we get to see Lambert or Flores. No one in AAA has pitched well enough to get the call. That said, I suspect we'll see a pen arm up on Thursday for the weekend, and then Fulmer up to take Banuelos spot in the rotation next Monday.

Sox vs Indians 5/14 1:10PM CT
I am as excited about Cease as anybody, but the guy has pitched over 5 innings in just one of his six starts. He isn't going to come up here and magically solve the pitching issues.

Sox vs Indians 5/14 1:10PM CT
We can't send him down. Its DFA or bullpen. Though it may be IL based on him being removed.
-
Sox vs Indians 5/14 1:10PM CT
He reminds me of the left handed version of DJ Carrasco.

Sox vs Indians 5/14 1:10PM CT
Not really something thast has changed in the last decade or so, but going back further than that, long term contracts is what has changed. Guys used to play for 1 year deals, so they'd play through just about anything as their next season's paycheck depended on it. Now a days teams are more cautious because they have guys locked up long term, players are more cautious because sitting out more often keeps them fresh, and unless an impending FA, shouldn't affect your pay down the line that much. etc., etc.,

Rodon TJS
Yah, trading Rodon last July wasn't really much of an option.

THE NEXT TWELVE WEEKS
I don't think so. I think he'll be back next week. He's able to go into concussion testing today, which I believes lasts a minimum of 5 days. Zavala is back today, though.
