Julien is a future (and current) DH. Pass.

Fair!

As it should be. Can always lower your price later.
-
They’ll still suck.
-
This is a deal the Sox should be willing to do.

Yah, I mean I am not going to sit here and say this team will be good next season. It won't be. I am expecting 90+ losses. So let me make that clear before I proceed... It is hard to know what exactly the Sox plan to do the next couple months at this point; certainly seems they're siding more on the skeleton squad side of things. But man, this division is putrid and not being able to pick in the top 10 eliminates any real benefit to just tearing it down and not even attempting to field a competitive 2024 roster. Sox have plentyyyyy of $ to spend; would be nice to see them at least attempt to patch together a roster that has a chance at the ole' lightning in the bottle without long term $ commitments. Not an easy task by any means. At the end of the day it will come down to the same cast of characters - Moncada, Eloy, AV and Benintendi - being the above average regulars they're capable of being. That coupled with some savvy moves and another MVP caliber season from Robert, its not impossible to see this team within a few games of .500 mid season in this awful division. Doubt anyone in the the ALC is going to run away and hide. Then again, not hard to see this team 20 games under come 7/1, either. Especially without Cease.

I would not make this trade for Robert + Cease.

New York Mets sign Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal
ChiSox59 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Reyes not being able to field or hit could be a contributing factor. -
Sale returned an MLB-ready blue chip prospectg that was widely top prospect in the game, and a legit top 30 type. Moncada obviously didn't pan out to his lofty projections, but let's not just call him a "top 100" prospect. That would be like O's trading Holliday + Kjerstad/Mayo and two filler pieces.

Is $18.5M AAV even that much money these days? More like solid contributor $ than elite OF $ nowadays.
-
Certainly will have plenty of $ to do so...
-
I feel like signing Maldonado to a 1/$6M deal or trading for Salvy while taking on like 2/$30M would be more "White Sox" than acquiring a legitimately plus defensive catcher for the league min.

Isn't this generally the fact for all sports at all times?
-
If nothing else, the *very* early indications seem that Getz will be a bit more savvy on the FA market and less likely to waste money on scrub vets in FA like Jon Jay, Emilo Bonfacio, Leury Garcia, Jeff Keppinger than the previous regime.
-
The Sox still have not made this official, right?
-
Its an interesting package. I just feel like Sox need to acquire a potential offensive difference maker in this deal. Rushing is a really nice piece, but do we need to 2 top 100 C prospects when the rest of the cupboard is fairly bare after Colson, Quero and Ramos. To me the Dodgers need to smash whatever offer the O's best offer is to get Cease. Something like Sheehan, Fraso/Stone, Pages/Outman, and an interesting 4th piece. Not married to Pages or Outman by any means, but an MLB ready OF we can stick in RF as the 3rd piece is pretty nice. Biggest issue with any Dodgers package is all these dudes are old.
-
I am fine with it versus paying Maldonado or another washed vet $4-5M to be just as bad.
-
Under control through 2026 via arb, if Sox continue to tender him. They already did for 2024.
-
I think they’re mostly done on SP. Probably add one more low-ish cost SP via FA and of course may well get a rotation option in the Cease deal. Soroka, FA, Fedde, Kopech, Touki is very likely the starting 5 in April with Scholtens, Schuster, and Nastrini next in line and Mena/Eder options by mid season perhaps.
-
I just don’t see how Sheets will have a role on this club. He does nothing that Getz has preached.
-
I completely agree with the bolded, and said as much already. I would hold for now.
-
And waltz right out of the playoffs because pitching wins in the October.

I think most orgs would be happy to hold Santos on their 40 man through the winter (he can sit on the 60 day IL all season and not impact the 40 man), in hopes of him being the same guy he was in 2023 in 2025. He has 5 more years of control. 2025 would still be pre-arb. Of course, we don't know that he actually has a forearm strain significant enough for TJS. What we've heard from Getz is that he's rehabbing and doing well. Do we believe it? Meh. I think its fair to be skeptical. I also think its a huge leap to just write him off and call him valueless and not worth a 40 man spot.
