Moncada hopes to stay at 2b
Lol? Seriously? Chunky? The guy is a physical specimen.

Who stays?...who goes??
You're just flat out wrong here. There are a few guys in that list that should, and will be, "flushed". The vast majority are not.

Who stays?...who goes??
Yah, it surprised me as well. It may have been due to innings. He pitched 146.2 this season after 91.2 in 2017. He had a tough end to the season, so perhaps he was dealing with some arm soreness. Or maybe the Sox just aren't that enamored with him. I guess we'll find out.

Who stays?...who goes??
I think Stephens would be one of the first few names off the board if the Sox left him unprotected. He's definitely MLB bullpen material. He'll be added. I could see it going either way with Adams. What prospects of note would be left unprotected based on this list?

Who stays?...who goes??
Releasing controllable and cheap players like Covey, Fulmer, Ruiz, Vieria, Cordell, Leury, Tilson, and Bummer makes absolutely zero sense and stating otherwise exhibits a rather stark lack of understanding of the game and is just meatball talk. Gomez, Gonzalez, Santiago, Scahill, Shields, and LaMarre are all very likely gone. As is whoever Castro is, because we don't have a Castro on the 40 man. Jones will be retained because its cheaper to retain him than buy him out. By the way - Merkin made a post on twitter about Nate's option and appeared not to know this. Pretty embarrassing. Farquhar is a unique situation and I hope the Sox bring him back on a minors deal. Minaya and Tilson are probably DFA'd to make 40 man room, but Minaya was pretty decent at times this year so may be retained. I'd non-tender Avi, but I could see it going both ways. Same thing for Leury, but I'd keep Leury around.

Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
I don't know. I felt better about things pre Kopech injury, for sure. I look across the AL, and I don't see a ton of teams outside of the Yankees and Red Sox, and wish I had their crop of young players more than the Sox. I also don't believe that the White Sox are universally considered a bottom of the barrel option for all FA like most Sox fans seems to believe.

Kevan Smith to have off season surgery
I hope the Sox find a way to keep Kevan Smith around. ie: dump Wellington to the highest bidder.

Her instagram comments with the pictures in the article made it fairly obvious.

Was it the pressures he did not like, or the fact that his teammates weren't faithful and it bothered him?

Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
Because the White Sox appear positioned to be one of the best teams in the AL over the next decade. The only teams that appear to be positioned better at the Red Sox (who he hates - but I still think are a huge risk) and the Yankees (whom already have a young 3B entrenched). I am far from convinced MM will be on the White Sox, but I do think they'll take a run at him, and I don't think he'll need to be paid at $75M premium to sign with the Sox (which IMO is big time chicken little crazy talk).

Avi to have off season surgery
The only way it makes sense to keep Avi is if they plan to sign a true CF like Aj Pollock, which I highly doubt is in the plans.

James Shields
Hadn't thought of it that way, but that makes some sense I guess

Avi to have off season surgery
I see basically no upside in keeping Avi. Best case scenario he blows up and the Sox get some middling prospect for him next July. I'd rather non-tender him and use that $10M towards signing a better OF, that can either be used as a stopgap until the kids fill the OF, or used as trade currency if he performs well.

This year's goal: 99 losses (or fewer)
I don't give two shits about meaningless win totals. I want the #3 pick.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Yah, I mean...what's the worst that can happen? He hurts his arm? Its not like he's so good as a DH on the wrong side of the platoon that the Sox wouldn't be able to go on without him. Based on the Cooper's comments on Davidson pitching, and the fact that Davidson admitted having real pain/soreness after one of his outings, I really doubt this ever amounts to anything.

Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season
Gotcha gotcha

James Shields
What is the purpose of an "opener"? It makes no sense to me unless you're working with expanded rosters and simply want to play matchups in the first few innings in a very important game.

What is HF?

James Shields
Yah, I was in that camp. I still may be, but the Kopech injury definitely changes things. I was ready to try to put a team together that maybe, just maybe, if things went well had a chance to compete. Now, I don't see it happening unless the Sox go bananas in FA.
-
James Shields
I'd rather try somebody else. I'd rather sign a guy Sabathia, Ryu, Harvey, Hellickson, Ross or Pomeranz. But Shields is definitely well liked and respected in the clubhouse, so I could definitely see a reunion on a 1 year deal in the $5-8M range. Let the 5th spot go to the winner of Covey (please just put in pen), Stephens, or Guerrero.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
He doesn't pitch those days? I don't think he'll ever be bullpen regular, but a guy you can throw out there for a an inning in a blowout 10-15 times a year seems doable.
