  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) They literally can't resign him if they don't trade him unless they extend him before the end of the season. I know - I misspoke. Too many trade ideas going through my head the last couple days.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Give a name right now... What is the best offer you would make as Rick Hahn for Cespedes. GO Chris Beck or Jacob May.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Well whatever the best offer is they should take it. Whatever the return is...it's better than nothing. Not necessarily. Maybe they value the ability to be able to resign him more than some s*** prospect.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) My guess on how this translates is that they are looking for someone to pick up one of their salaries, before adding more to the payroll. Possibly, but Hahn has said they have payroll space to add this summer, if the situation was right. Maybe this situation isn't right, but I don't think it is strictly a $$ thing. More likely that a bat would result in cutting into LaRoche's PT, and since he's locked up next year, that doesn't make much sense (to the FO anyway).
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) If they weren't convinced on waiving the white flag they shouldn't have traded the much more important pitcher. True, my point is they're not just going to give him away.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Yep. You would think within those last few minutes they would accept just about anything because there's no reason to hang onto him. Something is better than nothing. Except they are just 2 games under .500 and 3.5 GB on the 2nd WC.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) It's hard to believe that Cespedes won't move when the Tigers moved Price and Cespedes won't return a draft pick. And it also pretty much means that they cannot re-sign him. But looks like the Mets are the front runner.
  8. Sort of looks like we'll go to battle with what we got, which I am fine with. Orrrr is it just the calm before the storm...?
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) There's more to it than what a guy's WAR is this season. Avi is a young player who you are trying to develop and LaRoche is a veteran with a track record and a big contract that you want to get value out of. It's not a deal where they necessarily think these players are better than rest-of-season Upton or whomever, but you have to figure out how to handle these guys in the ways that benefit the team most now and in the future Exactly. Something this board in general seems to have a very difficult time grasping.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 2m2 minutes ago Nate Jones w/ another scoreless inning at Triple-A Charlotte. Got 1st K in 5 innings there. Had 1 in 3 IP at Single-A. 0.00 ERA overall. Anyone know what Jones' stuff looks like? He hitting 100?
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) What's a normal age to start following a team as a die-hard? I'm 25 but my first season following the White Sox all the way through was the 2004 team. I guess I was a late bloomer. I'm 25 as well, but since my old man is a die hard sox fan, I've been one since I can remember. Plus, growing up in MN, I had no choice but to defend myself, and be as educated on the game as possible. Hence why I know more about the Twins than most Twins fans, and I f***ing hate the Twins.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) Yeah, but Wood is a lefty. Yes, I thought you were referring to Latos v. Shark.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) Statistically have they been similar, sure, but Shark is a different story. He's viewed in the league on another caliber. Latos was darn good and he's pitching well now, but if you asked me who I'd rather have start game 3 of the playoffs, my answer would be very easily Shark and I think every team in baseball would come to that conclusion*. * Presuming the matchup is against a team who hits lefties as good as righties. Latos and Shark both throw with their right hand. And Latos stuff has deteriorated significantly the past two years. Its a no brainer.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Lol, the Yanks pitching isn't really any better. CC Sabathia comes to mind. Yeah, but they are already 6 games up and have an unbelievable bullpen. Toronto isn't catching them.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) I do believe the White Sox have been careful. Seeing at who has been discussed, there have been plenty of chances for the Sox to jump in and throw caution to the wind. But they haven't. This.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) I think holding on to Shark is a move in and of itself and probably the only prudent one Yep, and probably what they'll do unless someone bowls them over. Maybe a bench piece bat or someone that can play a little 3B, but I don't expect anything but, but I also wouldn't be surprised..we'll know in a few hours.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Not just a one game playoff but a chance at the division rival. Yes the Jays are six games back but while the Jays added Price/Tulo the Yanks lost lost Pineda. Anyway, back to Samardzija. I would not be surprised if the Sox decide to sell in the next few hours. Not gut the team but trade Samardzija. Doubt the Jays catch the Yanks. Their pitching still blows. MB is their #2....even after acquiring Price.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) Nobody is going to offer that much because Samardzija is not worth that much, period. To expect the same package for Samardzija is lunacy. Exactly. The Sox sit on ass while the Jays went out and got one of the best hitters and pitchers in the game. And ravaged their farm system to do so, all for a chance at a 1 game playoff. In a couple years, the Jays will regret these move, I guarantee it.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) If Shark isn't traded it's a comp pick most likely who will never make it to the show. When the Sox don't grab a big bat or give up our prospects for a free agent you'll be singing a different tune about how stupid the Sox are for giving up prospects or not trading Samardzija. I can see it coming . Maybe not you specifically but many on here. I don't think the Comp pick is the end of the world. A pick in the late 20's can turn into gold, but it is more of a future value proposition, no doubt. Look, if the Sox were getting great offers for Shark a few weeks ago when they were in the s***ter, he would have been traded. I personally would love to see the Sox get a big bat, but I realize it doesn't realize jive with what this team should be doing (assuming they have to pay a steep price to acquire said bat; I would be more willing to do so if the bat is controllable). But I think the best thing to do is to just stand pat. I doubt the Sox were getting offers like the ones the Reds and Tigers got for Cueto and Price, respectively. Any many here will b**** about anything, no matter which direction the team goes. That is just the way it is.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) I'm being realistic . All this stuff about Upton and Bruce just ain't happening and Colabello's OPS+ is 132 Upton's is 116 and he's a FA next year, Bruce 125 another .250 NL hitter likely to hit .230 in AL and free agent in 2017 ,Cespedes 125 and a free agent. All likely to want one of our top 5 prospects. The Sox need a bat who doesn't get paid much and won't ravage the farm . Have you even looked at Colabello's hitting stats this year ? Right now the way the Sox are built without much power Colabello has 9 but is hitting .312. He wouldn't kill rallies with that high average plus he'd be tied for 2nd on the Sox in HR's. Why would Toronto trade him for a bag of balls though, especially to a team they're competing with? He serves a purpose on their team. Don't forget, the 70-92 MN Twins DFA'd him last season after a similarly hot start to the year. I think the reason you're getting such a negative response is that you actually proposed trading Shark for him.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Can't argue with the year he's having though . He's been pounding the ball. And if the Sox can get him for peanuts and no Shark he's perfect to get a lot of AB's as a PH and DH against lefties. Sox do need a bat and that's what he is. Surprisingly Toronto still might want to keep him since he's been great there. Toronto lacks depth in the outfield. Their rookie 2nd baseman has a sore shoulder and Bautista a troubling hamstring. They're still looking for pitching and position players. Yeah, off the waiver wire maybe to be in a DH platoon or occasional fill in 1B. He should never ever be in the OF, and you definitely don't trade one of the best 25 SP in the game for him. He sucks, man. Yeah he can hit LHP a bit, but that is it. He is a really cool story though.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) I'd rather keep Melky in LF and put Upton in RF. That's fine too, although Cespedes won't play RF (apparently).
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) Not really. vs LHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF- Melky DH - Avi vs RHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF - Melky DH - LaRoche Not that complicated. Only issue I see with this is if Melky doesn't want to / doesn't like RF. But if they go rental route, please don't give up Anderson, EJ, Fulmer, Adams, or Trey. Fine with Avi or Montas, or pretty much any other prospect. Would be sad to see Danish or Adolfo go though.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 1m1 minute ago Teams talking to #WhiteSox say they're struggling with how impact of Cespedes or Upton would impact roster. Already overloaded at OF/DH/1B Not really. vs LHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF- Melky DH - Avi vs RHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF - Melky DH - LaRoche Not that complicated.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) It's possible. Toronto is overloaded with bats Maybe Shark for Chris Colabello . He probably makes Avi look like a good fielder though I haven't checked. Hitting.312 .839 OPS .900 against RH's . Is 31, journeyman mostly ,having career year . Equally good against righties and lefties batting average the same . Doesn't walk much but 132 OPS+. As you suggested it's possible still to win without Shark but maybe Toronto would still like him or might want something else for Colabello. If we trade Shark though an extra reliever might be good too considering Johnson most likely won't pitch late into games like Shark. Keep Shark and still get Colabello then could try Johnson in the 5 spot and move Danks to long relief. Have Danks start once in a while to limit Johnson's and Rodon's innings. Also it helps Toronto even more who is our competitor for the WC. And giving up Colabello without Shark seems unlikely unless they want a few B level prospects to restock their farm a bit after the trades they already made giving up their prospects. Yikes. And Colabello is a 1B that the jays play in the OF out of necessity. He actually would be much worse than Avi. He also just generally sucks balls at baseball...I can guarantee you the Sox have zero interest in him unless its virtually free.
