  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Can't argue with the year he's having though . He's been pounding the ball. And if the Sox can get him for peanuts and no Shark he's perfect to get a lot of AB's as a PH and DH against lefties. Sox do need a bat and that's what he is. Surprisingly Toronto still might want to keep him since he's been great there. Toronto lacks depth in the outfield. Their rookie 2nd baseman has a sore shoulder and Bautista a troubling hamstring. They're still looking for pitching and position players. Yeah, off the waiver wire maybe to be in a DH platoon or occasional fill in 1B. He should never ever be in the OF, and you definitely don't trade one of the best 25 SP in the game for him. He sucks, man. Yeah he can hit LHP a bit, but that is it. He is a really cool story though.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) I'd rather keep Melky in LF and put Upton in RF. That's fine too, although Cespedes won't play RF (apparently).
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) Not really. vs LHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF- Melky DH - Avi vs RHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF - Melky DH - LaRoche Not that complicated. Only issue I see with this is if Melky doesn't want to / doesn't like RF. But if they go rental route, please don't give up Anderson, EJ, Fulmer, Adams, or Trey. Fine with Avi or Montas, or pretty much any other prospect. Would be sad to see Danish or Adolfo go though.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 1m1 minute ago Teams talking to #WhiteSox say they're struggling with how impact of Cespedes or Upton would impact roster. Already overloaded at OF/DH/1B Not really. vs LHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF- Melky DH - Avi vs RHP LF - Upton/Cespedes CF - Eaton RF - Melky DH - LaRoche Not that complicated.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) It's possible. Toronto is overloaded with bats Maybe Shark for Chris Colabello . He probably makes Avi look like a good fielder though I haven't checked. Hitting.312 .839 OPS .900 against RH's . Is 31, journeyman mostly ,having career year . Equally good against righties and lefties batting average the same . Doesn't walk much but 132 OPS+. As you suggested it's possible still to win without Shark but maybe Toronto would still like him or might want something else for Colabello. If we trade Shark though an extra reliever might be good too considering Johnson most likely won't pitch late into games like Shark. Keep Shark and still get Colabello then could try Johnson in the 5 spot and move Danks to long relief. Have Danks start once in a while to limit Johnson's and Rodon's innings. Also it helps Toronto even more who is our competitor for the WC. And giving up Colabello without Shark seems unlikely unless they want a few B level prospects to restock their farm a bit after the trades they already made giving up their prospects. Yikes. And Colabello is a 1B that the jays play in the OF out of necessity. He actually would be much worse than Avi. He also just generally sucks balls at baseball...I can guarantee you the Sox have zero interest in him unless its virtually free.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) That's what it sounded like from Levine this morning. He said next year for Tim Anderson There is no chance Tim Anderson is the starting SS on opening day 2016 for the Sox. It will be Alexei. Maybe, just maybe, it Alexei sucks balls, they'll call up Anderson midseason, or maybe, they'll let Saladino or Sanchez give it a go, but it won't be Anderson. Admittedly, I haven't watched Anderson in person, but by all accounts he is extremely raw. His defense has improved ten fold since last season, but he'd still be an absolute butcher at SS in the majors. Give him time.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Toronto is clearly the best team in the hunt for the 2ND Wild Card, and they are going for it, with the acquisitions of Price and Tulo. However, they still need one more pitcher, to go along with the best offense in baseball. Why not give them Samardzija for one of those middle of the order bats, in their organization? The Jays certainly have enough of them. I know that both Encarnacion and Bautista have team options for next year, but will be free agents, at the end of next season. How about this?: Give them Shark for Encarnacion and Pentecost, but they can keep Encarnacion, until the end of the season. Then, after the season, the Jays have to give the Sox Encarnacion, whose $10 Million option would be renewed for one year, and take La Roche. Is that even permissible, under the MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement? I suspect that it is not permitted, or we would see that kind of trade deadline deal, all the time. The selling team, is looking ahead to next season and beyond. They don't care that much about the remainder of the current season. The Sox would be virtually conceding this year, but would be in good shape for next season, and would have some payroll flexibility to plug another hole, or 2. At least the Sox would have a middle of the order bat, to protect Abreu, with no big salary commitment. Jays would laugh.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Mets trying to land #Reds’ Bruce. Also exploring other options. Wheeler most likely would go to CIN and maybe one other piece. Would much rather have GoGo if I were the Mets.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) I understand the solid rumors buried in threads thing, but how are catch-alls bad for forum discussion? IMO they're better, as there were many more quality posts in the buyer thread than there are now in the smaller threads. Yep.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) You can blame me (although I'm not the only person anti-catch all), but as the owner, I have certain preferences and I hate solid rumors burred in threads. It is a pain in the ass for me to read (when I don't want to necessarily read through pages of discussion if I'm trying to get caught up on news / rumors) and it is also bad for forum discussion (and as an admin, I try to do what helps generate discussion). You're in charge, and don't get me wrong, I appeciate all that the admins to to keep this place running, but I think you accomplish the exact opposite of promoting discussion. But I understand your stance.
  11. Must admit, Soxtalk's obsession with not allowing catch-alls is sorta.....bizarre.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) So is Danks. Gyrko's goes thru 2019, Danks 2016. Gyrko's is worse.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Danks and low prospect for Upton and Jed Gyorko Gyrko's contract is brutal.
  14. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) As flashy as acquiring Upton or Cespedes would be, it would very shortsighted in my opinion to give up prospects for rentals to bank on 2015. This has Kenny written all over it. It does, but let's see what happens before we say we're mortgaging the future. Maybe they can get a rental bat without giving up anything super significant. We'll see...
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago Have heard chisox are on upton and cespedes now. Things have really turned around for south siders https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS My lord Do not want Upton unless it's cheap, which I doubt it will be.
  16. Anyone have any updates as to the severity of the injury? If they would have just called him up instead of Leury, this wouldn't have happened!
  17. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) This is from @devanfink retweeted by Chris Cotillo and is being lit up on Twitter for being a kid and not a real reporter so who knows. Especially these days after what happened to the poor met last night Chris Cotillo is a kid (maybe 20), but he is a legit baseball reporter. He's been doing it for a couple years now and breaks stuff regularly. Don't know Devan Fink.
  18. I am guessing he has been traded to the Charlotte Knights. Guy only has like 50 ABs this season in the minors, and would hardly but an upgrade over anyone on the 25 man. I do think he has a great glove, though. I remember him a bit from his Dodger days.
  19. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Wow if that's our move for the bench I'll puke. No joke. Hah, I am sure it is just AAA depth.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) It is so he won't have a qualifying offer attached to him. Before the new CBA (when he signed with the A's), this was a much bigger deal. Plus, the Sox wouldn't have been able to give him a qualifying offer anyway (since they would have theoretically just traded for him), so how is this any different than just a guy who is in the last year of his contract? I don't think this would affect any negotiations with him in the offseason, as someone else suggested.
  21. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) I don't see the benefit either. Does this mean that he wouldn't be able to sign an extension if he were traded here? It is so he won't have a qualifying offer attached to him. Before the new CBA (when he signed with the A's), this was a much bigger deal.
  22. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) White Sox Remain Confused on Whether to Buy or Sell http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...-a-bit-confused Nothing new here. Most posters on this site could have composed than piece of "journalism".
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) Would've missed him anyway. Missing Tanaka, too. We get Sabathia, Eovaldi, Nova. Not if his start was just pushed back from today to this weekend, which is what I read about an hour ago. Now he's DL bound.
