Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
Ahhh yes, let’s play at a disadvantage all season to prove a point. Great idea.

Andrus to the Sox, expected to play 2B, 1 yr, $3 mil
So who do you suggest be on the big league roster instead? Sosa riding pine? Romy is going to be on the roster regardless.

He’s not good, but he’s better than like Yolbert Sanchez and we’re paying him regardless. If he’s awful again in 23, sure DFA him if/when you have a better option. But makes no sense to do that at the moment.

Is Romy the second baseman?
Leury isn’t getting DFA and remains useful as the 26th man as long as he isn’t overplayed.

Releasing Leury makes next to zero sense.

As I suspected Sox DFA Sousa and expose him to waivers rather than using the 60 day IL for Liam or Crochet. Gonna stick with my hot take that Liam will be back pretty quick, they’ve really telegraphed it.

Well he’s a very good defensive SS and is moving to a much easier position, so it’s probably safe to assume he’ll be a very good defensive 2B. Leury isn’t that. Nor is Romy. Offensively I’d be pretty happy with slightly below league average production out of Elvis. Zips and steamer both project bim right around 90 wRC+. That’s probably still a 2 fWAR player even at like 400 PA. I personally am still hoping to see Sosa eventually win that job by mid season.

2023 26-man roster as of TODAY, updated after each transaction
I would care quite a bit if Sosa were DFAd. Guessing you mean Sousa, tho.

Yes - typo.

I don't think Banks or Sosa have much of a chance of making the OD roster. SP - Cease, Gio, Lynn, Kopech, Clevinger Pen - Graveman, Bummer, Lopez, Kelly, Diekman, Lambert, Ruiz, Avilia (if Avilia flops out in ST think all of Foster, German, and Santos more likely than Banks) Position Players: Moncada, TA, Elvis, AV, Yaz, Benintendi, Robert, Eloy, Sheets, Zavala, Leury, Romy, Marisnick RF is covered by a mix of Sheets, Marisnick, Eloy, Romy and Leury until Colas arrives in late April. Sheets likely goes down to AAA because he's hardly playing. If Colas earns OD nod, Sheets starts in AAA.

Where did anyone with the White Sox state that they're "giving" Andrus the 2nd base job? He's obviously the most qualified person on the roster, but just because they signed him does not mean that Romy or Sosa cannot earn the job in ST, or throughout the season. You're usually a big depth guy, so surprised to see you make this take other than it being the negative one towards the Sox. Its the exact type of move you'd be pounding the table about all season "Who could have possibly thought that Romy would be bad and hurt, and Sosa would be completely overwhelmed by major league RHP!?! Dumb White Sox!!" Seriously though, if Sox didn't sign Elvis, Romy earned the job and had like a 60 wRC+ thru May, and Sosa wasn't performing super well in Charlotte, then what? Play Leury more? Wouldn't you rather have a guy like Elvis around to backstop that? At least he'll play good defense, and is an intelligent baseball player. Elvis obviously is not going to re-create his 3 week run of excellence with the Sox in 2023, but he's also very likely an improvement on the other options they have. Its not like $3M is a lot of money or stopping the Sox from signing better players at this point, because there aren't any available.

You’re probably right. I just think they may give it a few more weeks.

It’s available but 60 day clock doesn’t start til opening day.

Yeah, but they’re probably not gonna. Crochet is gonna be ready before June 1. And there seems to be a good amount of optimism on Liam the last week.

One thing I will say, is that I still hope they give Romy a decent shake at winning the job. He’s most likely just a guy, but you’ll never know if you don’t give him regular reps. But you’ll never see me complain about depth, especially depth as professional as Elvis with a great glove.

Andrus to the Sox, expected to play 2B, 1 yr, $3 mil
Sure, why not? I’ve said several times throughout this off-season that I would take Elvis late in the game for $3M, and here we are.

Might be a bit of a hot take but between Gio, Katz and Hahn’s comments on Liam and his presence, I’d be surprised if he isn’t back by June.

They aren’t? Clevinger is largely getting absolutely grilled by fans, media, message board posters etc.

I think part of the reason they looked slow last year was because Tony told everyone to not hustle. I thought Eloy looked pretty thin in this clip.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
Yah. I have no doubt Clevinger is a POS and is not a good father or partner to his significant others. But there is also a decent bit out there that sheds her in not exactly the most credible light. Even in the interview she sort of zig zagged back and forth.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
Stick Moncada at 2B assuming a better option hasn't presented itself in 2023. I've been as staunchly against moving Moncada to 2B as anyone, but if its Manny playing 3B, you move Yoan all day, especially with just one year left on his deal. Mentioned it yesterday, but I think something clicks for Moncada this year. Its obvious the dude like money. If he doesn't bounce back next two seasons, he's looking a cheap 1 year deal as a utility type in 2025. I don't think he wants that. I am hopeful we see a different player in 23.

Yoan isn't done getting paid means we're going to get good Yoan the next 2 years. Same goes for TA.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
I guess I don't really see the difference. I am a huge baseball fan. I am a bigger White Sox fan. If the White Sox went away tomorrow - sure my consumption would go down some. But baseball is a huge part of my life, and I would likely adopt a new team, and over time become more passionate. It wouldn't be the same, but that love of the game doesn't just go away. Like I said, I am very excited for the 2023 White Sox season. I am 32 years old. The Sox haven't exactly been a juggernaut in my lifetime. In the last 30 years, the Sox have won over 90 games 3 times. The Sox current roster is easily one of the best 5 since I was in like middle school - so yah, I am excited. I don't see the point in pouting about s%*# I cannot change. I get the frustration - even as a more optimistic fan, I hate Jerry with a passion, and really struggle to understand how an org can make basically every wrong decision for 2 years straight years, how Hahn is still employed, how they let TLR ruin 2 seasons of this window, etc. But I am not going to let that take away my excitement from what is nearly certain to be a very entertaining baseball season.
