We are in the middle of a post bare bones rebuild “contention” window where they dicked around and cut corners. I’m gonna guess the GM knows he got his one chance to rebuild and it wasn’t enough to make them legit contenders, and knows the org won’t invest in the pipeline of talent to make winning sustainable. So tearing it down makes no sense, and probably is a non-starter for an owner that wants to pretend they have a chance to win every year. Let’s be real, the minors are barren, and they refuse to spend on top talent in FA. Any rebuild is likely doomed to repeat this past failure because it would require systemic change in how they operate.

That’s what I’ve been expecting. The return is what I worry about.

I’d be more open to it if there were any pitching depth in the upper minors, or if the org weren’t deathly afraid of pay for starters on the open market.

Think of what we could accomplish if we traded all of the starters! /green

If they weren’t crying poor all off-season, I would love to see them dump Yaz and find a decent replacement. Sadly that’s not the reality we are living in. As much as I loathe Grandal, Catcher is not an area they should address with their very limited resources.

I think Gio is as good as gone, be it now or in the offseason. Getting something outweighs letting another starter walk for nothing, but I have little faith Hahn gets value in return and also replaces him with a quality replacement.

Swapping a bad catcher on a bad contract for another bad catcher on an even worse contract. Sounds about right.

The 93 AL West Champs might just get me for the nostalgia alone. The Southside Irish is pretty sweet too.

They sure are taking their sweet time making this official and releasing the contract terms publicly.

AV had some struggles and faded down the stretch, but I’d hardly call it a disaster offensively. Calling it a disaster feels more like someone has an axe to grind than any real critique.

I didn’t watch but looking at the box score… Ooof. Looks like another completely invisible game with no significant impact on the court.
