Bob Nightingale doesn't feel like the guy a group of players would reach out to. Saying it's the players feels like cover to me. Bob has been known to carry water for the Sox for those times he does get a real scoop, and this feels more like that sort of quid pro quo.

If they come out and shit the bed tonight in embarrassing fashion, I would expect more to leak out. It does feel like a teetering at the brink moment for the clubhouse and possibly the FO.

Part of me thinks some of the leaked drama boils over on this trip and they crash and burn. 2-6 or 1-7 would not surprise me one bit. I would welcome it if it meant change, but...

Stone shilling for JR by going after Bob's sources?

Are they testing JR's loyalty, because I don't think they will win that battle. Not saying you're wrong, just looking for their angle. JR would certainly know the leak came from the FO.

Ricky was a pretty poor game day manager, but I don’t think anyone can say he didn’t have his clubs ready to play every day, or that he was bad in the clubhouse. There seemed to be a genuine camaraderie on & off the field, even when there were still growing pains. Night and day difference from the vibes we’ve gotten from day 1 under TLR.

What’s Terry Bevington up to these days? Or Jerry Manuel? Certainly they’ve learned a thing or two since they last managed, let’s line them up as the next retread succession tour ??. The selective memory / wilful ignorance from those still pining for Ozzie 15 years later make my brain hurt. Let’s all pretend he wasn’t completely awful the last few years of his tenure here, and that a decade+ removed from the dugout he’d magically be exactly the same guy pulling the right strings as he was in 2005. Get real.

It doesn’t make TLR look great, but he’s done enough of that himself. Placing so much blame directly on the players feels like a desperate attempt to deflect from that. I’ll be overjoyed if it is KW taking shots at TLR if it finally signals coming changes, but that seems a bit too far fetched to me. We know who the chairman is after all.

I don’t know, I kind of find it hard to believe it would be KW unless he’s ready to bounce and retire. Unless he wants to burn it all down on the way out, it feels 100% JR to me. It’s way too coherent to come from TLR IMO.

Bob is very specific to put the onus on a lack of player leadership. It’s a shot across the players’ bow. Yes it doesn’t reflect well on the handpicked manager, but I see it as an attempt to control the narrative. JR has to be aware of the fan disapproval, both at the gate and at the game, but he’s gonna do things his way including keeping said manager despite the colossal failure the hiring has been.

A precursor to some salary shedding deals perhaps? IDK. Maybe I’m too far down the rabbit hole.
