July 10, 20223 yr 5th in AL in fWAR. (*Perez 6th, Manoah 8th, Valdez 9th, Cortes 13th, *Blackburn 20th) 4th in AL in ERA (Valdez 6th, *Perez 7th, Cortes 8th, *Blackburn 14th) 4th in AL in FIP (*Perez 5th, Verlander 7th, Valdez 9th, Manoah 10th, Cole 14th, Cortes 15th, *Blackburn 17th) * Texas and Oakland had to have an all-star and these guys were those teams' best choices. Still doesn't justify Valdez or Cortes when Cease beats them both in all three. Edited July 10, 20223 yr by CentralChamps21
July 10, 20223 yr I know it would have been a great honor for Cease, but I'd rather see him get the rest. It would be the Sox luck if Cease got a line drive in the face in a meaningless game.
July 10, 20223 yr .... for now. Pitchers will drop out and he'll be in as a replacement. Agree that he should've been in originally, but it'll work itself out.
July 10, 20223 yr Dylan Cease should be in, but Kevin Gausman has been better, Shane Bieber his equal, but both were shunned by their 6-6 and 3-5 records, Martin Perez & Paul Blackburn are "team participation" trophy selection. Win Loss record (emphasis on least losses) still plays a big role for the dinosaurs deciding this bullshit. It's why Tony La Russa places more emphasis on individual wins and saves than White Sox wins. Top 20 AL fWAR Qualified (Innings) Starting Pitchers (Bold = All Star) 3.7 Kevin Gausman (6-6) 2.9 Shane McClanahan (9-3) 2.6 Justin Verlander (11-3) 2.5 Shane Bieber (3-5) 2.4 Dylan Cease (7-4) 2.4 Martin Perez (7-2) 2.2 Tank Skubal (6-7) 2.1 Alek Manoah (9-4) 2.1 Framber Valdez (8-4) 1.9 Frankie Montas (3-9) 1.9 Nick Pivetta (8-6) 1.9 Jameson Taillon (9-2) 1.7 Nestor Cortes (7-3) 1.7 Logan Gilbert (10-3) 1.6 Jordan Lyles (5-7) 1.6 Gerrit Cole (8-2) 1.4 Jon Gray (5-4) 1.4 Robbie Ray (7-6) 1.3 Jordan Montgomery (3-2) 1.3 Paul Blackburn (6-4)
July 10, 20223 yr Cease paid the price for being a member of the Unsuccessful White Sox with a laughingstock of a manager who went viral nationally with his stupid decisions in the Dodgers series and other games IMO.
July 10, 20223 yr The all-Star game has become a big nothing burger to me. I would just as soon get the team a break and start fresh.

I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but a bunch of Sox players streamed on twitch during the pandemic. Carlos was one of them & he came across as such a nice guy. I'll always be a fan of his for life because of that.

Yeah, Yankees have enough dudes going already.
July 11, 20223 yr Five of the eight All Star Starting Pitchers were selected by the Player's Ballot, with two of the remaining three chosen by the Commissioner's office to ensure each team is represented. July 11, 20223 yr I wonder if his high walk total nudged him out? He is leading the AL in walks currently. Fabulous year so far, though.
July 11, 20223 yr He got hosed, but it's better for the team he gets those 4 days off. Rodon didn't make it either. It's crazy. And Rodon was more pissed Cease didn't make it than himself. Edited July 11, 20223 yr by Dick Allen
July 11, 20223 yr If Cease played for Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers, he'd be an all star. Same goes for Rodon playing for the Giants. Both guys are more deserving than several of the pitchers that did make it.

I doubt it, since he is scheduled to pitch tomorrow and Sunday. The Sox are not in a position to let him skip his Sunday start to allow him to pitch an inning or two in the ASG. July 12, 20223 yr The all star sections for the White Sox are all you need to see. Anderson has no business being there and Cease does yet Anderson is starting and Cease is not even invited.
