  1. As has been quoted someone else in this thread in a defense of Eloy DID compare him to Thomas.
  2. According to a story tonight by DVS of the Sun-Times. This is what happens when you rush guys back from TJ surgery: "Left-hander Garrett Crochet returned from his rehab assignment at Charlotte with a recurrence of the shoulder inflammation that landed him on the injured list June 21. Since returning from Tommy John surgery this season, the 2020 first-round draft pick has appeared in 10 games, posting a 3.60 ERA with 10 strikeouts and 11 walks in 10 innings."
  3. The inability for Eloy to seemingly go a month without injuring himself and missing games is PART of the issues with this club. I repeat, he could be the second coming of Aaron, Mantle, Musial, Frank Robinson or Mays but I've yet to see a guy able to hit from the bench, a hospital bed or in a walking boot.
  4. They may get a bag of balls for Lynn but that's about it. These guys know they are headed out of town soon and I'm guessing they can't wait.
  5. He reportedly said he "now has a catcher he can trust..."
  6. Still have my T-Shirt from that season.
  7. Remember as well according to Garfein he was told that Diekman said he's performing better because now "he has a catcher that he trusts."
  8. Is that what the captain of the Titanic said? "Don't worry...it's just a SMALL iceberg!"

  10. July 21, 1997 – Enroute to a 3-0 win over the Tigers, Wilson Alvarez became the first Sox pitcher to ever strike out four hitters in a single inning. It happened in the seventh inning at Tiger Stadium. Alvarez struck out Tony Clark, Phil Nevin struck out but reached first base on a wild pitch, Melvin Nieves struck out and Alvarez finished the inning striking out Orlando Miller. Alvarez would strike out nine Tigers in a little over seven innings pitched. July 21, 2019 – It was a controversial decision in the minds of some, including national members of the media but long time White Sox outfielder/DH Harold Baines was voted into the Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee. Baines was the overall number one pick in the 1977 draft by the White Sox and had made his way to the Major Leagues by 1980. He spent over 12 years with the franchise starting in right field before a knee injury moved him permanently to the DH role. He was a key member of the 1983 “Winnin’ Ugly” White Sox who won the Western Division with 99 victories and represented the organization in four All-Star Games. He is among the all-time franchise leaders in games played, at bats, home runs, walks, runs scored, RBI’s, hits, extra base hits, total bases, doubles and 20+ home run seasons.
  11. It was longer than one day and yes he missed time...it counts... like DVS wrote in his story on him last month. The appendix was unfortunate of course but it goes down in the books as yet another situation where instead of being on the field he's sitting at home. 19 times since he came up...and counting (and some of those injuries, at least three, occurred when he comically tried playing the outfield.) And I hate to break the news to you but they are going to be just as bad or worse next year with gaping holes in the pitching staff, a reduced payroll (so help won't be coming) and injury-prone guys another year older.
  12. Chuck is my stepson's second or third cousin, he's a distant relative. Covered him when he pitched at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe). He had a very solid career.
  13. Sorry Bummer needs to go as soon as possible. His track record the past few years has been poor. No thank you.
  14. One big difference, Frank actually played most of his games. He had some serious injuries but over the course of his career he played in a much higher percentage of games than Eloy, who I think I read has only played in 54% of all possible contests. The second coming of Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays doesn't mean s%*# if he isn't in the lineup. 19 times, let me repeat myself (as Spike Lee used to say in the shoe commercials with MJ) 19 times now he's missed multiple games because of injuries. Something has really gone off the rails wouldn't you say?????
  15. No longer an issue. He's not pitching this weekend.
  16. No run is forthcoming especially when they deal half the pitching staff. Regarding Eloy, I hope he rakes for the next 10 days, then he can go to someone else and continue missing games for various ways, means, aches and pains.
  17. From DVS of the Sun-Times that bear out some real issues with the White Sox. This one shows the numbers of Hahn's rebuild out of "mediocrity": https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2023/7/20/23802059/flashback-to-birth-of-a-rebuild-white-sox-kopech-defeat-mets-quintana And this one explains how all of a sudden Jake Diekman has gotten very good for the Rays: https://chicago.suntimes.com/2023/7/20/23801857/something-to-be-said-for-change-of-scenery-former-white-sox-jake-diekman-case-in-point
  18. Unless he held this bunch to one run on four hits in five innings.
  19. July 20, 1957 - The Sox Dick Donovan one-hit the Red Sox at Comiskey Park and won 4-0. Ted Williams got Boston’s only hit on a single to right in the fourth inning. It was Donovan’s second one-hitter in two months. On May 25 he one-hit the Indians in Cleveland winning by the same score of 4-0. July 20, 1973 - Wilbur Wood started both regularly scheduled games in New York. Unfortunately, he got beat around twice, losing both decisions 12-2 and 7-0. Earlier in the season he started the suspended game and a regularly scheduled game in Chicago beating Cleveland twice in the same evening 6-3 and 4-0. July 20, 2008 – Future Hall of Famer Jim Thome collected his 2,000th Major League hit as he doubled in the seventh inning at U.S. Cellular Field. The hit came off the Royals Ramon Ramirez. Thome would finish his career with 2,328 of them, 469 as a member of the White Sox.
  20. Where have we heard this before? How many times since April??? Inquiring minds want to know: “It’s tough to hit somebody like that if you chase pitches,” manager Pedro Grifol said to DVS of the Sun-Times. “You can game plan against anybody but you have to stay in the strike zone.” ? Grifol was talking about the approach to Verlander tonight. Stupid is as stupid does...
  21. Guessing it is both. The Sox don't teach very well and as history shows they get a large number of "baseball-stupid" players.
  22. I don't ever recall Kenny saying anything along those lines. Doesn't mean it didn't happen but I don't remember anything like that. I do remember JR saying that he doesn't believe in paying for "potential."
  23. Twins signed him last month.
