  1. Some truth in the last part of your statement but since that was all he got by definition it was "big". And (as you'd expect) he talked a good game with these guys especially Alonso (LOL).
  2. When your best players are injured, when your GM's "big" acquisitions from over the winter taken as a whole are a major failure and when you basically have only two pitchers, the odds are this was going to happen sooner or later. Doesn't make it any easier to take though and even with the four A talent out there, there is no excuse for being so "baseball-stupid" with fundamentals on playing the game.
  3. In this case I agree with you (I know you are being sarcastic in this instance) although you could make the case that knowing how bad of a fielder he is, letting him stay in left field instead of insisting he become a DH could be viewed as a bad decision.
  4. Girardi wants nothing to do with the Sox besides JR wouldn't hire him anyway, he'd want to much money.
  5. Another another shitty outing in all probability.
  6. The Sox are going to get swept by the Kansas City f****** Royals. Unbelievable. Nova with another shit outing against a team not name the Cubs or Indians. These guys may actually lose all 10 games on the road trip.
  7. Who said "storied?" I said funniest moments. And when you've only been to the playoffs five times in almost 40 years you take what you can get. I have plenty (over 400) of notations on This Day In White Sox History. I'd be happy to post those if that's what the board wants. Took me a few years to assemble.
  8. Will be interesting to see how they embarrass themselves tonight.
  9. Long story but sums up the efforts of Portland, Montreal and the Carolina's very well: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-business-behind-mlb-expansion-portland-montreal-and-raleigh-taking-different-approaches-to-landing-a-team/
  10. After tonight's farce I'm reminded of the times this past off season when Rick Hahn (and others) talked about fundamentals and how the Sox had to be better at them. More total bullshit from the master at talking for 10 minutes and not saying one damn thing you can hang your hat on.
  11. Not a trainer but I think that's all in the same area. Either way it would be a bad injury.
  12. Frank Thomas in 2001 blew his out but his was because of a violent hit to the ground as he was diving for a ball hit down the first base line. Anything is possible I guess.
  13. I'd be willing to sell either the owner or the front office right now myself.
  14. Remember in the White Sox organization loyalty is far more important than winning or accountability.
  15. Very true but fundamentals, the ability to do the right things at the right time also play a MAJOR factor in a teams success. You're right, the Sox have little talent but even when they did have it, their stupidity on the field cost them dearly. And that hasn't changed.
  16. Fundamentals win or lose games. The White Sox don't seem to care about them, don't seem to stress them and then when you get games like tonight...outfielders running into each other, guys missing cut offs, errant pick off throws, outfielders taking bad angles / decisions turning hits into extra base hits...nothing is said, nothing is done, no one is held accountable. Same BS we've seen for years. And with respect, please don't give me the "rebuilding" excuse. High school teams know how to do these things, how can "professionals" not be able to? Just sickening tonight to a bad pitcher and a God-awful team.
  17. Well given the lack of pitching and actual depth this was going to be another losing year anyway so you may as well get what you can out of a bad situation...aka a high draft pick. Now if the Sox could actually draft a high pick who doesn't get injured or actually produces, than that is even better!
  18. Olney was reporting this morning the Dodgers are now very interested in getting a relief pitcher for the stretch run / playoffs but none of the names he mentioned that they are supposedly interested in pitch for the Sox. One guy from the Indians and one guy from the Pirates.
  19. I completely understand the circumstances behind everything but I think the Sox did the kid wrong by bringing him up and then basically not playing him. I mean is Rondon for example going to be part of the future? No. Collins could have DH'd for example. This is another rebuilding year, what did they have to lose?
  20. Another pitcher with a losing record and a high ERA facing the Sox tonight. Maybe they'll get more than two runs.
  21. I believe since time has to be called when a manager / coach / player visits the mound that the play is dead.
  22. One of those, "Did I just see this?" moments... July 16, 1990 - One of the funniest moments in Sox history, as Sox utility player Steve “Psycho” Lyons made a mistake that wound up on every highlight show in the nation. In the fifth inning at Detroit, Lyons bunted his way on, sliding head first the final few feet to beat the throw. He then called time and completely blanked out as he started to drop his pants to get the dirt out of them. Fortunately he was wearing sliding shorts. When he realized what he was doing he quickly yanked his pants back up while turning beet red in the process. After he was forced at second base later in the inning and ran back to the dugout, female fans in the first few rows behind the Sox bench began waving dollar bills at him.
  23. I think many fans take this left handed / right handed lineup construction to an extreme. If a guy is a good hitter, he's a good hitter and you get him and it shouldn't matter if he hits left handed, right handed or between his legs. You get as many good hitters as you can (who also have baseball skills as in fielding and base running) and let them do their thing. I'd never turn down the chance to get a good hitter / player because of what hand he favors.
