The fragility of some fans on this board recently...
Lip Man 1 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
VERY true. The lack of even run of the mill competent players after 2 1/2 years of the rebuild is deeply concerning to me. Injuries happen (just ask the Yankees) but other teams (Yankees, Cardinals) seem to overcome it and do fine. The fact seems to be the organization's drafting and development seems to be badly lacking across the board. That has to be fixed if they want "sustained success" per Rick Hahn. Can they? Who knows. The Sox have shown they dislike change and dislike going outside "the Family" regarding promotions / hirings and so forth. One tangent point to close. I think it goes without saying that if the Sox had the Dodgers record and were 15 games in front there would be some b****ing, that's the nature of fans, that's the nature of sports...but I guarantee you it would be a lot less. The old axiom is true, "Winning cures everything..." -

Well then you have only two choices as I see it logically, deal with it as best as you can or step away until a better time in your opinion because as long as the Sox continue to be one of the worst teams in baseball, fair or not, fans are going to vent. -
If that is what other baseball folks are willing to offer given that he is a free agent next year you take it. Period. This is a bad team, Half of guys on the 40 man roster aren't major league caliber. This season is lost anyway after a decent first half. What's five or ten more losses in a lost season already? He's pitched well, his value will probably never be higher, if somebody wants him, get rid of him since he's not part of the future. And if somehow the Sox think he is that would be very concerning.

I can only speak for myself here but as bad and as brutal as the Sox have been over time (the results speak for themselves) I'll always remain a fan. I was born and raised on the South Side, loyalty is a big deal to me as long as their is accountability. Some of my earliest memories revolve around baseball, the White Sox and my Dad. I will never give that up. That being said, fans are short for fanatics. Given that Sox history (five post season appearances since new ownership took over in January 1981, three post season appearances since MLB went to a three division format, tied for 27th in all of baseball, six straight losing years and nine of 12.) I completely understand why the fans who remain (and the Sox should thank god ANY fans still are interested) get pissed, upset, angry and so forth. These are the White Sox...not the Yankees, not the Cardinals, not the Dodgers...hell not even the Cubs in terms of success. Now add in over the years the attacks on the fan base by Kenny Williams, Don Cooper and now Steve Stone and again I don't blame fans for ,losing it. The Sox need all the fans they can get, Brooks Boyer (one of the few guys in the organization who I think actually gets it and treats fans with respect) told me that to him EVERY single fan is important. That's the attitude this organization should have but does not. That is very unfortunate and bad business to boot. Also keep in mind this is a message board, all opinions should be welcome as long as they aren't racist, sexist, or a personal attack. If you don't like what fans are posting, simple answer...don't read them or don't visit the thread. -
Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans

He already got into issues with the organization for his "candid" comments a few years ago. -

Beginning to think Stoney may be bi-polar. After having some very reasonable Twitter comments lately he appears to be back to poking the bear today saying that "haters will always be haters. Nice job folks" among other things. He was also called out by a fan for him and Jason making a lot of comedy-type remarks today while the Sox were getting embarrassed. -
Jackson signed with the Tigers last week. And you can bet money that by remaining in the organization at some point he'll be back up to embarrass himself and the team.
-
That is a lot of shit players to be sure on the 40 man roster. Wow...
-
You're right. My apologies.
-
They should have cut his sorry ass. There is absolutely no reason, none to ever see this clown throw a pitch in a Sox uniform again. Let him be somebody else's problem.
-
At least he's not going to the Yankees.
-
Good more please. Some of the mistakes these guys have made in the field this year has been beyond belief.
-
Unfortunately like with Minaya, nobody else will claim him, he'll remain in the organization and odds are we'll see him screw up again for the Sox next year.
-
To be fair they've made the playoffs four straight years (maybe five?) and won a World Series. They now have so much money rolling in it is Yankee like and that's without the expected 30 million a season increase with their new TV Netowrk. They've absolutely made some MAJOR mistakes but it hasn't seemed to stop them. They make a mistake, they somehow overcome them it seems. I think that was Moan's point (could be wrong though) As far as the Sox? Nice to see a win...more please.

He seems to be a different player since the All-Star break, much like Giolito. May need to rethink that extension talk until more time has passed.

To be fair to the kid, that is very true also.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Lip Man 1 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is very interesting. About 45 minutes ago Stone had a very different type-tweet saying, "Sox fans have every right to be frustrated. The negatives are there front and center everyday. Feel free to chose your own way to express your justified anger and dissatisfaction." Different tone isn't it? Maybe the blowback made him rethink some of the things he was saying? He said if the comments to him are constructive he'll answer and he blocks profane and hostile comments. Then in a second tweet he specifically said the Sox need guys who can catch the ball, they need a left handed hitting difference maker and starting pitching. When he said "defense" I immediately thought of Hahn's comments this off season about improved fundamentals, defense being one of them. To bad nothing has changed in that regard. Overall though it was nice to read Steve being a little more understanding towards Sox fans. -

I think you're correct on the part about the "defenders." I've read a lot of posts and even read some mainstream newspaper stories (Rick Morrissey had one) talking about the absolute need for the Sox to get it right this off season or they are going to lose the fan base regarding the rebuild. And I think that would be fair, if after three years going into number four, they can't keep the key pieces healthy and keep trotting out guys like Covey, Tilson, Engle, Sanchez and their ilk the fan base is going to be in open revolt even the most patient of them. -
Just pointing out that he's had issues in this regard. Maybe he learns and gets through this in time, maybe he turns into another Javier Vasquez...we'll see.

I see where Gio Gonzales pitched very well tonight for the Brewers in helping to beat the Cubs (yay!)
-
Well he gave up another crooked number inning tonight.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans

Easier said than done. Just a thought on the whole idea of Stone's comments and I personally know of a few other fans who have actually taken the time to write to him over this. A friend who is a long time Sox fan had the best advice I've heard regarding this organization / front office regardless of the area... drafts, free agent signings, trades, injuries. You can say it is the most pessimistic view of the situation but as he told me, it is what they deserve. They simply have not earned the benefit of the doubt because of their history and their actions in his opinion. His "philosophy" (for wont of a better word) is, "Don't trust them and always assume the worst until shown otherwise." -
Tomorrow is another game and another chance for a putrid Sox effort and probable loss. (I know that's what you really meant to say) As the old song said, "and the beat(ings) goes on..."
