They lost 27 games this past season where they took a lead into the 7th inning or later.
-
They had the lowest payroll in baseball during one of the years during the first rebuild, don't remember the year, it may have been 2018. And they were among the lowest in a few other years during that time period.

55 wins (maybe...)

I'd suggest there is a real difference between calling the G-League, Slam-Ball and UFC compared to calling MLB, NFL, major college football and basketball games. The fact that Jason has been given those opportunities says something about what those in charge think of his abilities.

He made the list. coming in at #2: https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports-media/2024/12/26/chicago-sports-network-comast-chsn-white-sox-john-schriffen-leila-rahimi-blackhawks-chris-vosters-bulls-stacey-king-bears-courtney-cronin-steve-mcmichael-jim-nantz

Jason has also called some NFL games for Fox during the baseball playoffs when some of their regular NFL guys were doing those games.

Colson Montgomery - How long until he proves he is a MLB shortstop?
Lip Man 1 replied to tray's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He went 0-41 to start his Major League career. -
With Nightengale delivering praise and the details of the assignment about a guy whose track record doesn’t necessarily point to massive prior successes in those areas, the initial suspicion is more along the lines of “Did Tony La Russa’s shadow government just hire the manager it wanted?” https://soxmachine.com/2024/12/christmas-eve-notes-nevin-in-eloy-gone/

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Lip Man 1 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree this is probably true for now. New ownership arriving changes the dynamic potentially. -
With You Tube I can watch "highlights" (or more to the point "lowlights") from every Sox game.

My definition of success is having consistent winning seasons. Even if you don't make the playoffs. At least with a winning season you have a chance to get in and then a lot can happen. A team with a losing record has never made the post season in MLB. (It would have happened in 1994 with the A.L. West winner had the season resumed). And at least a winning season, even if it is only 82-80 shows some things went right, some things you can build on and it does give you a selling point to the fans and the advertisers. And the MLBPA is the strongest union in the world, I can not see under ANY circumstances them agreeing to a salary cap. That is a fevered dream of ownership.

Bears will end the year losing 11 straight games. McCaskey ownership in full effect. 😆

CWS Acquire Reliever Cam Booser from BOS
Lip Man 1 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If JR is willing to at least pay a fair share, they may but I doubt it given the political climate and Gov. Pritzker isn't going anywhere. They only way this happens is if JR calls a press conference and says he's paying for all of it (and you know that's not happening...) -
Those two playoff appearances resulted in two quick exits and an overall record of 2-5. You are free to take that of course if you wish. But given the comments about "talk to me after the parade," and "we want to compete for multiple championships" that's a poor substitute.
-
Until JR is no longer calling the shots all these "changes" are simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Like my dad used to say, "The Sox would screw up a two-car funeral." Sooner or later these new individuals are going to find out the hard way that JR isn't going to fundamentally change his philosophy on how a baseball team should be run especially when it comes to paying for talent. The only hope is that new ownership will arrive sooner rather than later. In that case maybe they keep some of the new hirings and give them a realistic chance to do what they will.

Naylor to Arizona; Guardians sign Carlos Santana 1 year/12 mil
Lip Man 1 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Athletic earlier this week had a story asking the same question although the way they phrased it, it would be because the owners yet again would be willing to shut down a season to try to get a salary cap instituted. Good luck with that folks! The good news will be that unlike in 1981 and 1994 it won't hurt good Sox teams or blunt positive momentum because the team will be awful again that year. -
Then we won't have to worry about either situation taking place more than likely.

Same thing when Kenny was kicked upstairs and Hahn was promoted.

That's the way of the White Sox. -
He is far to loyal and only changes things when he is basically left with no other choice. The White Sox react...they aren't an organization that is ahead of the curve.
-
Wow...that's shocking. Tremendous talent.
-
I guess I missed new ownership walking in the door and the hiring of a new G.M. not connected in any way shape or form to the old ownership to say nothing of the issues being caused by the V/P of marketing who from what everyone has told me who is connected with the organization has made head scratching moves that has cost the franchise millions of dollars. What the Sox have done may result (notice I said may) in a modest improvement but JR still has 51% of the vote. That means a backward thinking approach to the minor leagues, self imposed limits on acquisition of talent by any and all means and an unwillingness to take any risks. Until that changes this franchise will continue to be incompetent, dysfunctional and inept. We have not, repeat not, seen a full house cleaning.
