  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:44 AM) Any chance he is the 26th man and makes a spot start when we play the Royals in the double header? I guess it would depend on if they want to make a 40-man roster move that early or not (Rodon is currently on the 10-day dl and could probably be transferred to the 60-day). I know I'm late but White Sox Dave has been saying early to mid May for Kopech, for whatever it's worth
  2. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:44 AM) Maybe direct those numbers to the people who agreed with you a week ago, because those same people are starting to change their minds. I don't really care about exit velocity if you're barely making contact, because at that K rate, he'll be middle of the pack soon. If you don't think he's struggling, why did Renteria say he was last night? Why were Abreu and Garcia seen talking to him? Don't they know about exit velocity? As much as I'd like to say no one is saying he sucks and will never be successful, it seems like some people are saying that. I'm not one of them. I'm strictly pointing out that he has been underwhelming NOW and is struggling NOW. Again you're using a straw man argument against me. I'm not talking about his exit velocity. It is an objective fact that his xwOBA suggests he has been extremely unlucky so far. That even factors in his strikeout rate. Entering yesterday his xwOBA was at .384, a very respectable number. His actual wOBA was at .294 (so I mistyped earlier, it's actually a .09 discrepancy). If you're really gonna disregard that, that's your prerogative, but it's literally inarguable.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) You're right. I should have realized he strikes out like it's no one's business everywhere he played, and then my expectations would have been lower. I've noticed that whenever I bring numbers into this, you tend to ignore them. It's entirely possible for someone to be a positive impact player with a high strikeout rate. Last year, that would apply to Moncada. This year, with the .80 discrepancy between his wOBA and his xwOBA, it should happen again.
  4. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:46 AM) Cant we just get ron to create a thread about how awful everybody is... especially our young guys... theyd be sure to take off and start performing then I was joking about this before but at this point he should actually do this
  5. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) The world where we expect more from the main piece of a trade where our favorite team traded the best pitcher in baseball. Then I'm sorry, but if you expected him to be better than above average in his rookie year, I think your expectations were too high.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:29 AM) Did Bryant struggle and get sent down? Rizzo? Most of their young players like Russell, Baez, Happ, Almora and Schwarber have contributed something along the way. They also signed Gleyber Torres and Eloy Jimenez. Not a bad track record, other than Soler/Heyward. What about letting go of Chris Archer? Josh Donaldson? There are so many misses in that organization that get overlooked (which I get, since they also have plenty of conversions).
  7. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 08:25 AM) To be fair he wasn’t exactly good last year or in his short stint in Boston In what world is a 104 wRC+ and a .750 OPS not good from a 22 year old?
  8. Well he just had his worst game as a pro, on both sides of the ball. Can only go up from that lol
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:47 PM) He earned the spot, but he's such a headcase he already changed his stance a few weeks into the season. He looks terrible now, as he's taking very defensive swings and ducking under high fastballs I agree with all that except I wouldn't say he earned the spot. He was the worst player in baseball last year.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:44 PM) here's that volstad kid you all were clamoring for earlier isn't he in his 30s? I remember him in the big leagues like a decade ago
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:41 PM) Quality decision to give Engel a spot on an MLB roster fixed
  12. QUOTE (Richie @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:31 PM) I am realizing that the knee-jerk nature of this forum is pretty funny. lol All in good spirit It's really just the game threads, everything else is fine haha
  13. Well 6.1 IP 4 R looks a lot worse than 6 and 2.
  14. I swear Delmonico does that every game.
  15. Especially when you realize how bad his mechanics and stuff were, 6 IP 2 R is a great outcome
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:47 PM) remember when people kept mentioning how a good 1B was going to save all those errors TA had in the minors? Turns out they were half right. His throwing yips are really troubling. Jose is doing God's work over there however. I know he's not good defensively, but I always felt like Jose got a bad rap over there. He's not a liability like some make him out to be
  17. Ricky Renteria might as well have been Robin Ventura this last week. Light a fire under them, come on
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) Unhappy in Boston. Has a dominant season this year and wants a change of scenery, fresh start... But wouldn't he get far less money than his current deal in those scenarios?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) Anderson has some of the worst footwork I've seen from a big league SS It's a shame because I remembered him being pretty good defensively in 16.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:00 PM) Terrible throw, terrible player He's almost indescribably bad at this point. It blows my mind.
  21. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:58 PM) Soxfan49, I like where your heart is at, but regarding Engel, even MiLB games are a stretch. He’s terrible. Now this is something the three of us agree on lol
  22. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:48 PM) Sure. But I’m not a huge sabes guy. What does that mean and how does it negate whiffing 35% of the time? My lasting viewpoint, FWIW, is that hitting it hard doesnt mean much when you often don’t hit it at all. Not that revolutionary, but it doesn’t seem like Benetti agrees. Basically, xWOBA tracks how hard he hits the ball, its launch angle, and gets a percentage of hit probability based on that data. If xWOBA is higher than wOBA, which weights the actual results of batted balls rather than the stats behind it, it generally means the player has been unlucky. In Moncada's case, the discrepancy is pretty big, so stats like average/OBP/OPS will increase in due time. It doesn't necessarily "negate" the strikeouts. I agree that he strikes out too much. But even with a 35% or so strikeout rate, I think he will still be a good player when you factor in his defense and hitting. As the years go by, I also expect that 35% figure to drop, too. It will take time
  23. Nice to see our walk problem made its way to Minnesota as well
  24. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:36 PM) Sorry, kid, but wiseass remarks aren’t a great rebuttal to the fact that our cornerstone prospect in this rebuild strikes out 35% of the time. Do better. Ok, that's fair. His wOBA is .294 but his xWOBA is .384. Better?
