2018 Attendance Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 11:58 AM) 10 Degrees: MLB's enormous attendance drop due to bad weather or something far worse for baseball? https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-mlbs-en...-152051024.html Yay, more fear-mongering! Tanking is ruining the game! I swear, these writers are acting like this is the NBA.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 11:03 PM) I think you’re overreacting to two good starts. I see where you're coming from but I don't think he is. Clarkin has always been very good, he just hasn't stayed healthy

4-15 Minor League Gamethread
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 04:24 PM) Yeah, but you don't put all that work into him putting it together to promote him before he is ready and destroy his confidence when he can't hit again. He is on fire right now, let's let him cool off a bit before we start talking about promoting him. I never said we should promote him right now, I meant at least a couple months

4-15 Minor League Gamethread
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:39 PM) They are going to try and not have the surgery but that doesn't mean they are going to let him play the field for half the year. Keston Hiura didn't play 2B for a whole year when he had this injury and he still had a scare during spring training. I highly doubt they let him play the outfield this year. Also, injury aside, they had him do two years in rookie ball and two years in low A and now they are going to promote him through advanced A after 2 months? Because he wasn't good at those levels until last year? It's not like it's rare for a 17 year old kid to be stuck in rookie ball/low A for awhile

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:15 PM) As far I as I know they have not determined yet that he’ll require surgery. Yeah, I believe the whole point of him DHing is the alternative to surgery, and said surgery would only occur if something goes wrong with the natural healing process

If Adolfo keeps hitting (not at this unsustainable rate of course), I think we'll see him in AA as soon as he's able to play the field

4/14 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 09:39 PM) 3 would be a great outcome I agree. I just don't see any of those first 3 being busts, and I think at least one of Basabe/Blake will pan out.

4/14 Games
I am quite confident that 4 of Eloy/Robert/Adolfo/Rutherford/Basabe will be solid MLB players

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:01 PM) Tell me when it?€™s the first of July. I'm not blaming anyone, as I am guilty of this too, but you really do need 80-100 games before you can start assessing meaning to rate stats. I am very confident that Moncada will be no worse than .240/.330/.400 by then.- Moncada
QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 12:51 PM) FWIW, expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) is formulated using exit velocity and launch angle, two metrics measured by Statcast. So if you are talking about xwOBA you are, by definition, talking about exit velocity, albeit indirectly. Right. It's definitely a part of the equation but it presents it in a way that includes all PAs (strikeouts included), which relate to his argument- Juan, 2B
I believe the problem is that Robin moved him to 2B after Renteria moved him to SS after Ozzie moved him to DH- 2018 MiLB White Sox news and notes
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:44 AM) Any chance he is the 26th man and makes a spot start when we play the Royals in the double header? I guess it would depend on if they want to make a 40-man roster move that early or not (Rodon is currently on the 10-day dl and could probably be transferred to the 60-day). I know I'm late but White Sox Dave has been saying early to mid May for Kopech, for whatever it's worth- Moncada
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:44 AM) Maybe direct those numbers to the people who agreed with you a week ago, because those same people are starting to change their minds. I don't really care about exit velocity if you're barely making contact, because at that K rate, he'll be middle of the pack soon. If you don't think he's struggling, why did Renteria say he was last night? Why were Abreu and Garcia seen talking to him? Don't they know about exit velocity? As much as I'd like to say no one is saying he sucks and will never be successful, it seems like some people are saying that. I'm not one of them. I'm strictly pointing out that he has been underwhelming NOW and is struggling NOW. Again you're using a straw man argument against me. I'm not talking about his exit velocity. It is an objective fact that his xwOBA suggests he has been extremely unlucky so far. That even factors in his strikeout rate. Entering yesterday his xwOBA was at .384, a very respectable number. His actual wOBA was at .294 (so I mistyped earlier, it's actually a .09 discrepancy). If you're really gonna disregard that, that's your prerogative, but it's literally inarguable.- Moncada
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) You're right. I should have realized he strikes out like it's no one's business everywhere he played, and then my expectations would have been lower. I've noticed that whenever I bring numbers into this, you tend to ignore them. It's entirely possible for someone to be a positive impact player with a high strikeout rate. Last year, that would apply to Moncada. This year, with the .80 discrepancy between his wOBA and his xwOBA, it should happen again.- Todd Steverson
QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:46 AM) Cant we just get ron to create a thread about how awful everybody is... especially our young guys... theyd be sure to take off and start performing then I was joking about this before but at this point he should actually do this- Moncada
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) The world where we expect more from the main piece of a trade where our favorite team traded the best pitcher in baseball. Then I'm sorry, but if you expected him to be better than above average in his rookie year, I think your expectations were too high.- Moncada
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:29 AM) Did Bryant struggle and get sent down? Rizzo? Most of their young players like Russell, Baez, Happ, Almora and Schwarber have contributed something along the way. They also signed Gleyber Torres and Eloy Jimenez. Not a bad track record, other than Soler/Heyward. What about letting go of Chris Archer? Josh Donaldson? There are so many misses in that organization that get overlooked (which I get, since they also have plenty of conversions).- PTC, Friday, April 13th at 7:10 PM CDT

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:47 PM) He earned the spot, but he's such a headcase he already changed his stance a few weeks into the season. He looks terrible now, as he's taking very defensive swings and ducking under high fastballs I agree with all that except I wouldn't say he earned the spot. He was the worst player in baseball last year. - Moncada
