  1. QUOTE (Hamhock @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) Did the logo itself have "Guaranteed Rate Field" in it, or was it just the Guaranteed Rate logo? both
  2. The Sox invited me to Guaranteed Rate Field for an NIU game via advertisement at the Sox game the other day. The sign had the downward arrow on it.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) They are going to sell. But they are going to get more than just prospects back. Besides, if it's the manager's fault this team isn't winning, how much would they really have to tinker with the roster? Nightengale pointed out it didn't matter who was making out the line up card the last 4 years, the Sox weren't making the playoffs, and he is correct. I would imagine Robin would choose to return, but if he does not, at least we know they are blaming themselves for this and something will be done about it. I don't get why you think Nightengale is correct. If the manager serves such little purpose in your eyes, then why even have one? Just have a guy make a lineup and you're good. I think MLB managers have much more of an impact on teams than you think. No, I don't think anything is ALL Robin's fault, as we've dealt with injuries and poor performance from players and whatnot, but you certainly cannot act as if he had no effect.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) The White Sox easily have $30 million to play with, perhaps more, plus Fulmer as a trade chip. They can do as big of an overhaul as they did last season. I don't consider last year to be a real overhaul, though. It was really just Frazier, Lawrie, and scraps. The previous winter was bigger IMO
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) The roster is going to look a lot different. That is what they are saying with this stance. I don't get how that's possible unless you sell. There aren't many buying options out there, and other teams will be able to easily outbid us.
  6. I say this as one of the most "don't blame the FO" people ever- the White Sox front office deserves every bit of blame and backlash it is receiving lately. I've had enough of this. This season has been beyond embarrassing- the LaRoche sage, the 23-10 derailment, the jersey cutting up scandal, Guaranteed Rate- oh, and missing the playoffs for the 2nd straight year with a roster that definitely has playoff potential (and 8th year overall). I don't get how anyone could defend them.
  7. QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) Yeah that update to the Nightengale piece is a real plate of s***. "Perhaps instead of the White Sox being condemned, they should be praised for their fearlessness, making unpopular personnel decisions to the outside world but revealing their deep loyalty to everyone inside the baseball industry." Holy hell what a paragraph. I can't even. That was honestly one of the worst articles I have ever read. The ignorance and uninformed nature of the whole thing was cringeworthy. It was as if it wasn't Nightengale writing, but a delusional Sox staff member.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) So you don't think those who are torn on say Porcello and Kluber (2 I feel are likely to win) won't look at how each performed in the post season to make a decision? Of course they would. Sure they will, I'm just saying that's not fair to guys like Sale. He had nothing to do with us missing the playoffs, at least performance-wise.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) I'm in the group that says post-season should count. Its definitely a variable people consider when voting. I believe that's unfair for pitchers on non-playoff teams. A starter could theoretically go 34-0 but if the rest of the team sucks, he misses the playoffs. That's not his fault. Sale is the closest example to that scenario over the past 5 years. Him pitching even better would not have made us a playoff team.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) The season isn't over on Sunday for all the candidates. The Cy Young Award is for the regular season.
  11. What about all the reports that Renteria was offered the job midseason but respected RV too much to take it?
  12. That doesn't make sense at all. If Sale rattles off 2 complete game shutouts, the award would likely be his. So I don't get how they could've voted
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) I honestly wonder if he can win the Cy Young. His numbers are very good this year. Would be pretty cool of the MLB to do so. Also, if anyone saw that video of his grandmother on YT from a year or so ago... hard to hold back the tears. It's a nice thought but Hendricks, Scherzer, Lester, Bumgarner, etc. are probably more deserving.
  14. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) Wrigley is abysmal for baseball. Anytime I hear anyone talk about that stadium positively, I know they've been taking drugs. Hey, something we kinda agree on!
  15. My god was that place empty. 13k attendance. Upper deck and outfield were essentially bare. Was very weird to see/hear, as it was also very quiet (understandably)
  16. Watch every game, and if I can't watch it then I'm following it on my phone. I know I'm gonna miss baseball in the winter. Trying to get as much of it as I can.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) I talked with Scott Merkin this weekend via DM on twitter. He said if he had to guess, he'd think it would be Renteria or McEwing as next manager but that could change obviously. He also said Don Cooper is 100% back. McEwing? Don't like that...
  18. It's just hard for me to comprehend, and I feel very similarly to how I felt when Taveras passed in 2014. Because, it's not just like he blew out his elbow and he'll never pitch again. He's gone, not just from pitching but from living, stripped of the opportunity to father the child his wife/girlfriend is pregnant with, and it's just horrible all around.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) An old rock and roller like me finds this statement funny. Caveat:I have no idea who any of these artists are so for all I know there could be jazz, rock , big band and country and classical music represented but I highly doubt it. It's just rap, pop, and electronic (or whatever Skrillex is classified as) so I don't know what that post meant
