The KKK was even framed as an "innocent, fun social club" much like these groups often are. The similarities between the rhetoric and (early) purpose of the KKK and these militia groups are quite striking, and this is coming from someone who has studied/is studying the late-19th century rise of the KKK. Of course, this doesn't mean that these militia groups will turn into it, but I can't say it doesn't scare me.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I don't agree that this is the biggest crisis in American history, but by the time it's all said and done (including a second wave), it's not hard to see more Americans dying from COVID-19 than in the wars you mentioned. Especially if the country re-opens prematurely, which seems likely. Moreover, I'm surprised you only mentioned wars. I think a better example would've been African-American slavery, even if it wasn't a single "moment", but I guess it depends on how you interpret the question.- Will There Be a 2020 Season?

Sorry, I was referring to February polls, before Super Tuesday and before it was clear Biden would be the nominee. There was a point when Sanders was not only winning in delegates, but leading the polls in terms of being the best candidate to beat Trump. I believe Sanders himself cited this in one of the debates, and the fact checks verified it- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
The whole idea of running out a safe moderate to combat the relatively far-right Republican candidate hasn't really worked though. For a recent example, see 2016. The "electability" factor ends up alienating a large section of the party and perhaps offsets the moderates that are "won". Sanders was polling quite favorably against Trump before he suspended his campaign, or before COVID. Even better than Biden in most regards *Edit: Polling better than Biden before Super Tuesday- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread

But this is part of what bothers me. Doesn't saying that he "isn't perfect" in response to his shortcomings, while correct on a literal basis, diminish and/or trivialize the cruelty of rape?- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
One could argue that the entire Democratic Party is already doing so by embracing and endorsing a rapist, so I guess it wouldn't surprise me if the VP pick is seen as progressive.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I wouldn’t be so sure. COVID has certainly and understandably dominated the news, but I’ve seen a lot of talk about non-voting or third party votes from progressives/democratic socialists, especially since the Tara Reade allegations.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread

- ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes
I don't think a May start is feasible but at some point the thirst for revenue will overwhelm both the owners and the union. Obviously nothing is close at the moment, and I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise, but I also think people are being too dismissive- ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes

Sort of. I think they'd just be allowed to stay in the hotel (or wherever the players are staying) with the players. If for whatever reason that does not work, it was also implied that as the season goes on and the virus (hopefully) becomes less of a threat, restrictions could be lowered progressively. Meaning families could be allowed to stay once it is deemed allowable by health organizations- ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes
Your concerns are legitimate but FWIW, Rosenthal seemed to imply today that families might be allowed to stay with the players after all- ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes
This is how I watch the World Series every year anyway, it makes zero difference to a lot of us- ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes
On an individual statistical level, I think you'd have to throw away the season. Not just closers, but every player. There are so many factors (many of which are weather-related) that will make the offensive environment markedly different from any other season. That said, I hope they get it done. Passan's piece is very encouraging and I suggest you all read it. Getting CDC approval was a major step and they seem to have planned this out really well. It would be cool to see the electronic strike zone in action too- There’s No News
