Nightengale on new Sox Swagger
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 09:00 AM) That's pretty scary to me. What's to stop him from folding at the first sign of adversity again? Worse. He didn't say he folded, he said "we" folded. Of course, that doesn't explain the July surge. They folded , then unfolded, then folded again. Must have been another series w KC.....................

Nightengale on new Sox Swagger
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Yep, sounds like he was just as much a disappointment in the clubhouse as he was on the field. HUH???? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/158894110/je...ect-fit-in-2016 Samardzija's competitiveness will play well at AT&T Park. Had he continued his football career, he would have been a perfect fit for the old Raiders, as he wears his emotions on his sleeve and plays off the crowd. Samardzija fought with Lorenzo Cain and the Royals last April, showing teammates he had their backs in an incident sparked by Yordano Ventura.

3/13 vs Diamondbacks
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Yes he did, it's between Latos, Turner and EJ Sounds like you agree. Hahn assumed all along that Danks is the 4th starter. He brought in insurance for EJ not Danks Hahn said the Sox plan to go with Erik Johnson, along with their four returning left-handed starters. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...125-column.html

3/13 vs Diamondbacks
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) Yes you can. Let's not pretend like we haven't seen this from Danks since his shoulder was operated on. At this point we are all praying that somehow he magically finds "it" and is good again. The likelihood of that is not good Somebody should have told Hahn that since he didn't bring in his replacement.

White Sox Spring Team Offensive Stats (as of 3/10)
Living in Florida, I have the chance to see different spring training teams. One important thing to note is that the veteran players are pampered so their stats can be mis-leading. Often the veteran players play a lot more home games than road games. The reason is that a spring training road game can be a 2-2.5 hour bus trip each way. You often see the veterans skip the road games with longer bus reides and work out at their home park instead. So when spring training is over, a veteran player may have 65-75% of his abs. in one park. If it is a hitters park they may be inflated or the opposite if it a pitcher's park.

3/11 at Padres
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) I know it means nothing but I think it means something to have success in spring....if that makes any sense. Very few teams can flip the switch so to speak. Oakland had the best record in ST last year and the worst record in regular season. Having said that, I do think it is important for WS to have a good spring since the team has a bunch of new players and are working on developing new chemisty

Official 2016 Soxtalk White Sox win total prediction thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 10:02 PM) There's room for Sale and Rodon to improve from last year, especially Rodon. Danks might regress a bit, but we've long come to expect little out of him. So then you're essentially comparing Latos/Erik Johnson with Shark's 2015. All things considered, they should be a notch or two better, especially if we get our expected improved defensive play in the outfield. Last year our starters were pretty healthy other than Sale stumbling out of the block early. Jones was the key injury so the pen was affected. My gut is we have an injury to a starter at some point and our lack of depth at that position would get really exposed.

I think 82-83. Offense will be better. Not sure what to think of defense. Starting pitching will be worse and bullpen better.

Spring Training Stock Report - Week One
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Well, most of the article is indeed about minor leaguers. Did you mean a minor leaguer actually writing about it? You have to remember that results in the beginning of spring training are skewed especially for hitters because the pitchers are often ML guys working on something or AA/AAA bound players getting a taste of the bigs. It is encouraging though to see a bunch of guys putting up good offensive numbers since the Sox need help on that side. Writer says he does not count out Davidson yet but the Frazier trade probably does. Curious if there seems to be any improvement/emphasis on the defensive side.

Austin Jackson
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) Yeah, losing Almonte hurts...and Rajai Davis will be merely adequate. They have two huge holes just like the White Sox have, except in the outfield and 3b. But having Lindor, Kipnis and Gomes up the middle...arguably the three best at those positions in the Central unless you want to argue Sal Perez...certainly helps. They also picked up Napoli and Uribe. But they both are 50 years old

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 04:38 AM) Nope. Both will be on the team. Both will play plenty during the season. Whoever plays better will play more. Bizarre fixation, not just in this specific case, but in general with "who's gonna win the job?" and "who's gonna be named the starter?" Whoever plays the best will get the playing time during the season. Opening day is irrelevant. Micah Johnson was the opening day 2nd baseman. He lasted a month. We're talking about a $2 million 37 year old and a guy playing for the league minimum. There's no incentive to play anyone other than whoever is playing best. Rollns should have the job on opening day assuming he shows he isn't cooked. He's done it for a ton of years. He hits left handed. He'll benefit from time off with Saladino playing particularly against lefties. If and when Saladino proves he's the bigger asset on the field on a daily basis, he'll play more. You missed the bigger questions. Was Rollins brought in to be the starter? If so, what happens if Sanchez and Saladino have better springs than Rollins?? If Sanchez cannot play SS, who is the backup to Saladino if Rollins has nothing left??

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) If he wins it, it's perfectly fine. He's even fine on the bench. They obviously don't think Sanchez can play short though. That makes no sense. They signed Rollins to a minor league contract w an invite to ST. He should not be in a position to win a roster spot by default. If that is the case, Hahn screwed up.

spring training intrasquad game 2/29
QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) Would love to see Saladino or Rollins be competent 2 hitters. I like Melky batting 5th or 6th a lot better than 2nd..........Assuming we see 2015 Melky that is. SS is now Leury's to lose.....................................

Fowler Signs with Cubs
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) I think the changing philosophy the last two years is a big change. Besides what do you consider the lack of results? If it's not making the playoffs, nearly every ownership would change every 3 years. I think the change with Rick Hahn as the GM shifted the philosophy of the team and he needs some time to implement the change. Last year I thought he built a good team. The players didn't play to their capability. I also think that they have a pretty god team this year and are building in the right direction. I also agree with another poster that if they are under .500 this year there will be a manger change because they can't fire all of the players, although Hahn tried changing 1/2 of the lineup this year. A team that spent the majority of the season w Flowers, Sanchez, Saladino and Avi in your everyday lineup was a good team???? That is half of your lineup in the field. 3 of the 4 will not return to their position from last year and 90% of the fans want the 4th one replaced. Agreed that guys like LaRoche, Alexei and to some extent Melky did not perform but the rest of the lineup were not ML quality starting players.

The battle for shortstop - applying some odds
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Yep, he really should be trade bait. Not many options for him to break into the infield rotation the next 2 years. I have no idea why the writer put 80% chance of Sanchez being the utility player. That should only occur if Rollins is released which he didn't assume with his starting SS projection. I think Sanchez goes back to minors for one more year w hope of his offense improving or worse case building some trade value.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) ok, i am laughing and i really don't know why most excellent post. In my neighborhood growing up as well as the surrounding ones, there were plenty of kids to form teams. We had 8 kids in our block that played against teams from areas easily walked to. Our local neighborhood city playground organized sandlot games in addition to our own pick-up games. Ironically now the schools are saying that the 60/70 boom is long gone and with smaller family size the schools are now operating at 60% capacity. Thyere are still empty lots, still recreation center ball fields but they mostly are empty. Basketball and soccer now seem to occupy the youth and both need much less equipment and even number of players.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) dang, i remember those kind of pickup games, i remember, in the 60's groups of kids from neighborhood blocks will play against each other there was about 4 or 5 different block team, those were great fun. DA why do you think the kids don't play block games anymore. i have a feeling, but i would like an opinion first. Birth control.
