Is Tim Anderson Ready?
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 25, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) I'm not sure, I say put Saladino out there everyday until Anderson is ready. Release Rollins, why the hell did we sign an over the hill SS to begin with. And while we're at it, it's time to say goodbye to Ventura. Your rationale does not make sense. Hahn decided to sign Rollins not Ventura. So we should say goodbye to Hahn.

Corpse ball is back
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 25, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) I want a guy to come in who has had previous managerial experience at the big league level and has won...not somebody learning on the job, a complete unknown or someone who literally had to be talked into taking the job. Even if such a guy isn't out there right now, that doesn't mean they won't be AND you can always try to negotiate with a team to get a manager even if he's under contract. Players have been traded for good managers in the past, one example is when Pittsburgh traded catcher Manny Sanguillen to Oakland for Chuck Tanner. Mark Mark: How important is the manager. I thought hiring Robin was dumb because he had zero experience. You say you want a ML manager w a proven track record. I submit 2 current names John Farrell--- was well respected pitching coach w Francona. Goes to Toronto and has 2 mediocre seasons of sub .500 baseball. Hired by Red Sox and wins World Series in first year. Next year w virtually the same team finished dead last. last year struggle again and then he is forced to leave for health problems. Interim manager comes in and Sox improve over last 2 months. Takes over this season and Red Sox at this point are playing very good baseball. My take---the team play determines his success since his career as a manager is a roller-coaster. Ned Yost---manager for Brewers for 5 years w sub .500 record and no post season appearances. He is fired and hired in 2010 by Royals. In 5+ years w Royals he has a sub-500 record but a 22-9 record in postseason and a WS win. Two guys who managed losing teams were rehired and have won a World Series and both are still sub 500 career managers. I think the team is much more important than the manager or his track record before he is hired.

Is Tim Anderson Ready?
QUOTE (professa @ May 25, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) I'm tired of the incompetence the Sox have at SS. Rollins just doesn't have it anymore and Saladino, while good with the glove, is just not an everyday player. Anderson leads the IL in hits and has an average over .300. I haven't watched any Knight games, so I'm not sure how his defense has been, but at this point with the Sox struggling at the plate, you have to think Anderson would fill the #2 hole in the lineup nicely. The question is, would calling him up this early impede his development? I know Soxnet projects his ETA to be September/2017 (last time I checked), but have the circumstances changed? No, you do not rush a prospect based on the performance of the ML team. When he is ready, the little thermometer will pop up.

I think Jerry will be very reluctant to let Robin go especially during the season. He was convinced by his basketball GM that firing Thibodeau would change things.

Early Trade Speculation
FWIW- I was listening to a Boston station the other day and they mentioned Hahn and his looking for an early trade partner. It may not be a coincidence that the Red Sox brought up Swihart very quickly after only a short period transitioning to LF in AAA. Possible showcase for Hahn???? But Sean McAdam, longtime Boston beat writer does not think there would be a trade till late June. He said every team's scouts are concentrating on the upcoming draft and trade talk is mostly back-burnered. Now if Boston is trading Swihart they will want a top SP back ( i.e. Fulmer) in some package deal. That is why I am not sure Boston is a great trading partner even though supposedly Hahn really likes Swihart.

White Sox draft picture getting clearer - reports on Blake Rutherford
QUOTE (Lillian @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) That is a terrific post, "Dizzy Sox". I never thought about the tendency of the Sox to select "toolsie" outfielders, as a K.W. obsession. You may be on to something. In any case, you express my sentiments exactly. Thank you. Just say NO to Collins. He is a Florida born kid who played little league, high school and college in Florida. He has never played a season in a cold climate. He will wilt his first April in Chicago. He is better off playing for a team south of the Mason Dixon. Draft a cold-weather player. Any Canadians in the draft??

5/23 Game 1 - Indians @ Sox, 4:10, CSN
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) Coop only has 99.9 percent of it. You still don't want to burn both of your late inning guys in the first game of a DH if you don't have to. Agree. The coaching staff does not pull names out of a hat. They go into games with several plans on the relievers based on the opponent, score as well as the previous workload of the past few games. The bullpen coach and pitching coach give the manager the proposed bullpen rotation for each game.

and THAT is a White Sox Winner
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 23, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) That was a big win. Picked up another game back on Cleveland. Didn't get swept. That's one of my goals for this team is to not be swept all season. I was doom and gloom all night Saturday and yesterday but that win got some of my optimism back because Rodon pitched well again and then pen was air tight. Now we have a huge 4 game series with Cleveland. Not huge this early in season. We know we won't be swept since Sale is pitching. So even if we lost 3 of 4 , it is only a 2 game difference. Now maybe we sweep and send Cleveland into a tailspin. After watching some of their games against Boston, I think we take 3 of 4. Napoli was awful against Boston so hope he keeps going bad.

and THAT is a White Sox Winner
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 23, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) The first time he played this week the joke was that he was coming off the DL. I would think Hahn makes the decision on Sands being on the roster w some input from Robin. In modern day baseball, the manger plays who he is given. With Robin's limited success, I am sure Hahn is calling the shots.

Huston
QUOTE (South Sider @ May 21, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Disgust with the losses aside, this team should find some middle ground sooner than later. I think we have two fair assumptions that we can make. The first is that they're not as good as they initially played (.600+ winning percentage), and the second is that they are not as bad as they are playing now. This provides hope that yes, they can go on either another great run or find their way to a middle ground. Some people will argue that they are as bad as they are playing now, but I don't think that's fair. It's a slump, and a pretty ugly one at that but things will turn around. The kicker is that it just sucks watching the slump continue for what seems like forever with each passing day. The other crappy part is that we're in a homestand with KC and Cleveland with still no end in sight for the slump. I'm hoping like everyone else is that last night was rock bottom, because things can only go up from there. I also do want to acknowledge the arguments against the Sox, such as weak starters like Latos, Gonzalez and some pretty bad offensive players as well as what seems like a declining bullpen. These are definitely real issues but all teams in baseball deal with issues like those. It's about how you overcome them. For instance, the Royals were able to overcome using their #6 or #7 (right?) preferred starter last night. Obviously they'd rather have someone else, but they're still able to win the game. I would only add that they have not had any major injuries this season. Many teams already have lost a starter( pitcher or everyday) on the DL for the season. Unfortunately, the Sox will probably lose a key player as well like we did w Jones last year.

5/20- Kansas City @ White Sox- 7:10 PM CT
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 20, 2016 -> 05:16 PM) Not really, gets him more PA and also lets him bat without Rollins or Jackson making an automatic out after Eaton gets on. But if Eaton does not get on, he is your "lead-off hitter" in the first. Regardless, I like a big lineup change going in to a big series. Confuse those sh** kickers from KC.

Cubs' Joe Maddon 'digging' success of crosstown rival White Sox http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...427-column.html As a White Sox fan living on the east coast, the poster had me going with his rant. Guillen became Sox manager while "blackout drunk"
QUOTE (TRU @ May 19, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) You mean 3rd? Gaston won in 92 and 93. After that his teams never challenged again in his 2 stints as manager.

5/19- Astros @ White Sox- 7:10 PM CT
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 19, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Sanchez going from hardly ever playing to batting 2nd makes so much sense. I agree w you. Rollins playing almost every day was giving them no production from the 2. Makes sense to try the opposite and give a guy who hardly plays a shot at it. I see Sanchez getting a couple of hits tonight.

Guillen became Sox manager while "blackout drunk"
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) In the back of my mind, I feel like Kenny really wanted to hire Cito Gaston, and that Guillen was a Reinsdorf thing. If Kenny hired Gaston, we might still be looking for our first WS Trophy. Luckily Ozzie got it before he imploded.

5/18 White Sox vs Astros
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Let's hope that today is the day where the Sox get their sh!t together again. On a positive note, the Sox have had the lead or been tied in most of their recent games, so at least they aren't getting destroyed. Agree but style points are not counted in baseball.

5/17 - Astros @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE (flavum @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) Agreed. It's not a must win or anything, but after a 2-4 week where the bullpen sucked, it's time to get back to winning and playing clean baseball- quality start, good defense, no bullpen bs. Just win. Houston is a bad team. So hopefully rodon dominates them and rights his funk.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 16, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Are you really regretting not trading Quintana though? Our rotation would be a complete mess without him. No. I thought Rodon would make Q expendable especially if we were getting a young top notch catcher and CF and a 4-5 SP back. I also felt the Sox needed another SP because of the projected Johnson/Danks 4/5 combo. So in hindsight we would have improved drastically at catcher and CF but Q would have been a huge void w Rodon struggling.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) http://m.mlb.com/player/598265/jackie-bradley-jr He had an 832 OPS last year and is an excellent defender. In 2014, he was at 531 and his prospects were slightly dimmed...looked like the classic all field, no hit type. It was pretty obvious that Castillo and Hanley were the ones that were going to be out of luck in terms of maintaining their outfield positions. Red Sox also seemed to be satisfied with Holt. Castillo just wasn't hitting for enough power, isn't a very good defender and doesn't light up the board with lots of steals, either. Agree but that was solely based on his production in August. He hit .354 in August but then tailed off to .216 in Sept/Oct. based on his tailing off I was hoping the Red Sox would be willing to part w him since Betts had a great year. Oh well, too late now

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) I think you mean the 2014-2015 offseason in terms of targeting Bradley, Jr. It was clear this year that they needed his defense and Betts' in the outfield, and that Hanley Ramirez and probably Rusney Castillo would be the odd men out (Ramirez was moved to 1B.) So they would have offered Castillo/catcher/Owens instead...or we would have gone after the same targets that were traded for Craig Kimbrel (or maybe not, since they were too far off in their development to impact the White Sox until 2017 at the earliest, but probably 2018). No last offseason. Bradley had a sub-par year last year again w the bat. Now he has exploded offensively. They had Young, Castillo, Betts, Holt and Bradley Jr as outfielders and already decided to move Ramirez once they signed Young. But they were desperate for starting pitching . They went out and paid a bundle for Price but they still were short and now are really scrambling for starting pitching. I wouldn't have done the Castillo package for Q and I didn't think the Red Sox would do a Betts package. Oh well. With Rodon struggling it may have best for White Sox in long run.
