  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Does anyone expect the White Sox to pick the right manager when Ventura is eventually gone after this year? Look at the clusterf*** that is the Chicago Bulls and Fred Hoiberg. Or since that move backfired, maybe Jerry will fire the GM not the manager this time around.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I don't know how to express it besides saying something dull like....the chances are now somewhat diminished that Carson Fulmer will be in the 2017 Chicago White Sox starting rotation to start the season. Or there are growing concerns in some circles about his mechanics and ability to get hitters out by making them expand their strike zones, which hasn't worked as well due to experience of AA hitters compared to even the best collegiate line-ups. If that's better... Young talented players can make significant improvement quickly. Fulmer may be still in AA in 2017 or he could be in the Sox rotation. Rodon could be struggling to hold the #3 spot in the rotation in 2017 or he could be challenging Sale for the #1. Anderson could be back in AAA in 2017 or he could be an early rookie of the year candidate. I posted trading Q for Jackie Bradley + a catcher last winter and several posters trashed it and said Bradley was not ML quality. Young talented players can make significant improvement quickly.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 29, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) As for the "good in the clubhouse" stuff, we'll find out today. My guess is Sale invites Drake in to calm the clubhouse down
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 28, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) That will be an interesting possible deal. What will it take? Not sure how reliable but it says Anderson in return.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 28, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) If Ventura gets fired, it'd be Rick Renter taking over and my guess would be that they'd hire Sandy Alomar in the offseason Vegas has Buddy Bell as the favorite at 5-2.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 28, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) I don't think any shortstop would have had a play at second. I think he had a possible play at first though. Offer Albers and Rollins to SD for Alexei.
  7. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ May 27, 2016 -> 11:34 PM) He shouldn't be playing everyday. There is absolutely no difference between his and Saladino's bat. Why not play the younger player with the better glove? Pure stupidity But there is a difference in his and Saladino's contract. I'll bet Robin would like to see Rollins released so he is not stuck w him.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) Pretty hard to justify sitting Eaton with his numbers against LHP this year and the fact that we REALLY need all our best horses to get going to carry the team through this ten game road trip. And that's why he is sitting him, 4 for 23 lifetime against Duffy. Ignoring his 929 OPS vs LHP this year so far in 51 AB's. Not to mention the fact that Danny Duffy has just come back to the rotation and is likely to face Eaton only twice...maybe, just maybe...three times. And they say that Ventura's not really a genius using his intuition about line-ups. His last week, he's 6 for 34 so we MUST sit him despite his being one of the Top 5 players in baseball. That's not even taking into account how bad we make our defense in one of the bigger outfields to patrol in the AL...east of Safeco and south of Minnesota. (And I'm going to go out on a limb that most of those 23 at-bats came in 2014, when the Royals owned the Sox and Duffy looked like one of the most promising lefties in the AL the first 3-4 months of that season before injuries took their toll down the stretch. Not sure how relevant a handful of at-bats are in 2014. SAMPLE SIZE SAMPLE SIZE SAMPLE SIZE.) Worse, in 23 at bats Duffy has struck him out 8 times.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 27, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) Just an awful, awful line-up structure. Based on their roster, I think it is fine. What would you change???
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 27, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) There is a massive middle ground between the Twins/Astros and what Kenny Williams insists on doing. Every winning team has a solid young core (well it may not be young anymore, but it was when they started winning). The Sox were doing just that and it was WORKING ...but in the Winter of 2014, Williiams/Hahn immediately reverted to Williams' comfort zone and started trading away the young players for veterans, As for the Astros, i would assume that they learned their lesson with their inane trades for Giles and, Carlos "he must be good - he's a Brewer!!!!" Gomez. But none of those young players have really amounted to anything so far. Most were fring ML players and some might not be starting for us if they were still here. I would have a problem if Hahn had traded a stud prospect who is playing now for someone else and putting up numbers.
  11. Blogger has had numerous rumors over the months on Bruce and Cargo coming and not coming. If you throw out enough rumors something is bound to succeed.
  12. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ May 26, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) White Sox are interested in trading for either Carlos Beltran or Brett Gardner http://showtimesports.sportsblog.com/posts...tt-gardner.html This person has zero credibility. He puts out rumors constantly hoping something will stick. He has had 3 -4 Jimmy Butler staying/going, several Bruce/Cargo rumors to Sox, Rmors on almost every position w Bears etc...................
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 26, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) Can we trade Robin for a bucket of bubblegum to be chewed later? How about Hahn for a bucket already chewed. Robin only plays the hand he is dealt.
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 26, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) The starting pitching seems to have settled in a bit Eaton, Melkey and Frazier are legitimate threats You knew the pen based on law of averages would come back to norm and it seems as it has Abreu is workign out of it Catching defense is much better as is over all defense American League and Central in particular is not as strong as it was thought to be There is hope. Eaton was horrible on the homestand
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 23, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Using this logic we should have never drafted Sale. Wrong. Sale was sent to Wisconsin for a season to avoid the 'florida syndrome". In fact his present day wind-up was developed in the cheese state.
  16. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 25, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) Good managers set the tone, make solid baseball decisions and put the players they have in the BEST positions to win games. That's how a manager is important. He is not the be-all / end-all but a good manager is damn valuable. Mark But again you say good managers set the tone. But John Farrell won a World Series but then has had 2 bad seasons in Toronto and 2 bad seasons in Boston and so far is having a good season in Boston. How can a manager have so many ups and downs. Would that not indicatethat maybe it is not him but he wins when the team plays well and loses when the team plays poorly. Same w Francona and Yost. Now maybe Maddon got solid results w mediocre teams in Tampa and very good results w good talent in Chicago.
  17. Ozzie is over the hill. But Adam LaRoche is available.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 25, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) Sox were looking like they had "it" at 23-10. Team was rolling and rattling off win after win and winning series after series. It seems like the Sox do more "weird" stuff than most franchises. Like play 23-10 ball and start to look somewhat special then turn to complete crap. Yes it happens, but what's with the 23-10? True at that point we hadn't started playing division teams cept for the Twins. Wait til Detroit starts beating us like a drum to go with Cleveland and KC. Will interest ever be lower in a first place team than after KC kicks our ass 3 of 4 or all 4 this weekend? Greg: I am with you in that I thought they should have taken Francona. But he was lousy in Philly, great in Boston till he lost control and now pretty good in Cleveland. So in the end, he has been bad, great and pretty good. I would say he is as good as the talent he is given. Same as Farrell and Yost that I previously mentioned.
  19. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 25, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) I'm not sure, I say put Saladino out there everyday until Anderson is ready. Release Rollins, why the hell did we sign an over the hill SS to begin with. And while we're at it, it's time to say goodbye to Ventura. Your rationale does not make sense. Hahn decided to sign Rollins not Ventura. So we should say goodbye to Hahn.
  20. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 25, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) I want a guy to come in who has had previous managerial experience at the big league level and has won...not somebody learning on the job, a complete unknown or someone who literally had to be talked into taking the job. Even if such a guy isn't out there right now, that doesn't mean they won't be AND you can always try to negotiate with a team to get a manager even if he's under contract. Players have been traded for good managers in the past, one example is when Pittsburgh traded catcher Manny Sanguillen to Oakland for Chuck Tanner. Mark Mark: How important is the manager. I thought hiring Robin was dumb because he had zero experience. You say you want a ML manager w a proven track record. I submit 2 current names John Farrell--- was well respected pitching coach w Francona. Goes to Toronto and has 2 mediocre seasons of sub .500 baseball. Hired by Red Sox and wins World Series in first year. Next year w virtually the same team finished dead last. last year struggle again and then he is forced to leave for health problems. Interim manager comes in and Sox improve over last 2 months. Takes over this season and Red Sox at this point are playing very good baseball. My take---the team play determines his success since his career as a manager is a roller-coaster. Ned Yost---manager for Brewers for 5 years w sub .500 record and no post season appearances. He is fired and hired in 2010 by Royals. In 5+ years w Royals he has a sub-500 record but a 22-9 record in postseason and a WS win. Two guys who managed losing teams were rehired and have won a World Series and both are still sub 500 career managers. I think the team is much more important than the manager or his track record before he is hired.
  21. QUOTE (professa @ May 25, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) I'm tired of the incompetence the Sox have at SS. Rollins just doesn't have it anymore and Saladino, while good with the glove, is just not an everyday player. Anderson leads the IL in hits and has an average over .300. I haven't watched any Knight games, so I'm not sure how his defense has been, but at this point with the Sox struggling at the plate, you have to think Anderson would fill the #2 hole in the lineup nicely. The question is, would calling him up this early impede his development? I know Soxnet projects his ETA to be September/2017 (last time I checked), but have the circumstances changed? No, you do not rush a prospect based on the performance of the ML team. When he is ready, the little thermometer will pop up.
  22. I think Jerry will be very reluctant to let Robin go especially during the season. He was convinced by his basketball GM that firing Thibodeau would change things.
  23. FWIW- I was listening to a Boston station the other day and they mentioned Hahn and his looking for an early trade partner. It may not be a coincidence that the Red Sox brought up Swihart very quickly after only a short period transitioning to LF in AAA. Possible showcase for Hahn???? But Sean McAdam, longtime Boston beat writer does not think there would be a trade till late June. He said every team's scouts are concentrating on the upcoming draft and trade talk is mostly back-burnered. Now if Boston is trading Swihart they will want a top SP back ( i.e. Fulmer) in some package deal. That is why I am not sure Boston is a great trading partner even though supposedly Hahn really likes Swihart.
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) That is a terrific post, "Dizzy Sox". I never thought about the tendency of the Sox to select "toolsie" outfielders, as a K.W. obsession. You may be on to something. In any case, you express my sentiments exactly. Thank you. Just say NO to Collins. He is a Florida born kid who played little league, high school and college in Florida. He has never played a season in a cold climate. He will wilt his first April in Chicago. He is better off playing for a team south of the Mason Dixon. Draft a cold-weather player. Any Canadians in the draft??
