Hopefully they keep someone ready in the pen and have a quick hook if Q starts to struggle again. -

Walking the number 9 hitter never is a good thing. Lawrie then trying a flip dedicated to Derrick Rose made it worse. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) Just read an article saying Betts should be in a deal for Sale. Finally someone has some sense. Much rather have Bradley and rather give up Q

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) Bunts are good in certain situations. With a base stealer on 1st, I'd much rather just have the guy try and steal 2nd. Let's say a guy has 75% success rate stealing, that's higher odds than a bunt. Then, you could always bunt him over to third where anything other than a strikeout or popout likely scores him. So Adam Eaton who has been the White Sox steal leader the last few years has a 65% steal rate. So your theory wouldn't work for the White Sox.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Wins are important, especially to the common fan. And you're right that the color announcers tend only to mention the traditional stats. Steve Stone did mention the other day that WHIP is an important stat, especially for relievers. Oftentimes you'll see a closer with a losing record but good other stats because those occasional blown saves can turn into losses. As far as Quintana, I've had to correct my wife and son multiple times when they've said that he's not very good. They're looking at his record without looking at one of the other most basic stats for a pitcher: ERA. Quintana's run support is horrendous. He's 5-7, and he has the lowest ERA on the team (2.63). The argument has been that wins don't matter as much when you're looking at a pitcher's value. That I will agree with. To say that Quintana is not nearly as valuable as Sale because he's 5-7 while Sale is 12-2 is very shortsighted. The other traditional stats and the advanced stats matter in regards to his value. Agree but to also say Quintana is on a par w Sale is also very shortsighted. They both have pitched on the same team and in the same home field for 5 years and Q is 3 below .500 and Sale is 27 +. Now Q's numbers are definitely affected because he gets terrible run support. But the other problem is we are not talking about a short sample here. We are in the fifth year of each being in the rotation. It may be un-explainable but for some reason the team does not perform behind Q. Put him on Boston and he may be better than Sale w their offense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) I had heard nothing of Eduardo Rodriguez, googled him, and the first sponsored link included Curt Schilling insisting that Rodriguez is not tipping pitches. Rodriguez was the prospect Boston got back in the late season deal of Andrew Miller to Orioles a few years ago. Very talented but can be good or bad. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:47 AM) Another must win with Shields on the mound tomorrow. Hopefully the offense can score more than one run for Quintana today. The weather may affect tomorrow. Chicago's rain today could be in Boston tomorrow. -
A woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day. One day, when he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "You know what? You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you stayed right here. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. You know what?" "What dear?" she asked gently, smiling as her heart began to fill with warmth. "I think you're bad luck." Q has been a slightly sub .500 pitcher for his career and he is now in his 5th season. It is ridiculous the run support he does not get. But, Chris Sale has played behind the same team and is +27 over the same timeframe. Q is bad luck.

If you watched the dugout shot, Cooper made the decision on getting Jones up. I think on most teams the Pitching/bullpen coach set up the bullpen rotation based on usage in previous games. Some posters have said Robin makes the call. -

Interesting point by Red Sox announcers. Anderson's homerun cleared the wall and landed on the street below. Unfortunately he may not get the ball on his first HR back. -

Hopefully White Sox send Buchholz back to a bullpen role. Remember, if he does struggle, Red Sox will be more desperate to go out and get a starter. -
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Some of these Sale returns are kind of ridiculous. Switch jerseys and say what you'd give up for Sale if you were the BoSox. Yoan Mocada is a good reasonable start with Pedroia in the way. Owens is too. And the Sox covet Swihart (even though I'm not sure he won't be the next Weiters rather than Posey -- true talent would have played his way into the every day lineup by now) After that? I just feel like you might be hard pressed to get much more. Also I think you can get the same haul basically next year, so why rush it this year? I still am giving this club 1 total more year. June 2017 then close the coffin on this team. Swihart struggled catching not as much batting. So they moved him to AAA to learn playing left field. But that drops his value if he isn't an everyday catcher.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) It'll be interesting to see where they start him. After Smith went down the catchers got shuffled all over the org. Hopefully the coldest city available

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) You do realize if the season ended today, Jose Quintana would be the AL Cy Young award winner? In your eyes maybe. But in the ESPN predictor he is not even in Top 10 2016 Cy Young Predictor - AL RK PLAYER TEAM CYP G GS IP ER K SV SHO W-L ERA VB 1 Chris Tillman BAL 96.0 15 15 89.2 31 86 0 0 10-1 3.11 12 2 Chris Sale CHW 93.2 14 14 98.0 32 93 0 1 11-2 2.94 0 3 Zach Britton BAL 90.4 28 0 29.0 3 33 21 0 2-1 0.93 12 4 Danny Salazar CLE 86.8 13 13 80.2 20 96 0 0 8-3 2.23 12 5 Cole Hamels TEX 80.6 14 14 90.2 29 87 0 0 7-1 2.88 12 6 Steven Wright BOS 79.3 14 14 98.1 22 80 0 0 8-4 2.01 0 7 Josh Tomlin CLE 77.6 13 13 81.1 30 53 0 0 8-1 3.32 12 8 Colby Lewis TEX 75.5 14 14 93.0 29 58 0 0 6-0 2.81 12 9 Jordan Zimmermann DET 69.3 13 13 86.0 31 54 0 0 9-3 3.24 0 10 Rich Hill OAK 67.7 11 11 64.0 16 74 0 0 8-3 2.25 0

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) A stat dependent on his offense isnt going to drag down his value. Everyone in the league knows how good he is, it isnt a secret. The White Sox arent gonna be like "well, he doesnt have a lot of wins soooooo maybe we should take less" Reading 101. I said Q will not bring as much as Sale in a trade. The 4 minor league prospects might get Q but not Sale.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) He was hurt, then was cleared, now is hurt again. Should have fired Herm Schneider a week ago..........................

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) Same. And I expect the same thing for Quintana. 1. The Red Sox are not trading Bogaerts. He is untouchable. Now Betts or Bradley could probably be had in a Sale trade and to a lesser degree for Q. Q has great stats but his consistent inability to win on a team where Sale does win makes him a step down from Sale. Q might be more likely for the minor league players in a trade. Sale has to bring one stud ML starter and prospects. Bradley has more value than Betts 2. Red Sox have decided Swihart is better off in the outfield than catching. I trust their opinion more than the White Sox scouts after the Shields debackle. 3. Must get a high ranked Boston pitching prospect back in a trade. 4. I think Dombrowski will make a big time trade but I don't think Hahn will. I also don't think Dombrowski includes an ML player( Betts Bradley) until after the season unless they suddenly start to fall out of race.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) It's still a mystery. I'd like to point blame too but Shields had 1 bad start in SD and all of a sudden all of the positive that he had done in his career was forgotten and everyone is lauding the scouts who passed. Like they knew he would not be able to get ANYONE out. Are the good scouts the ones who say "no way" to an otherwise solid pitcher after 1 bad start? Or are our guys doing the right thing by saying..let's buy low on this guy because of his multi-year track record of success--he'll turn it around? The only way I'm coming down on our Shields scouts is if they overlooked something else MAJOR going on in his life that is causing this or an injury. What on earth did they miss?? Is it a Chuck Knoblauch case where an all-star player, for some unknown reason, forgets how to throw the ball to 1st base? I agree--our system is broken, but anyway you look at it, you can find decent logic behind the decisions that are made!! I just can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts!! I think you are underestimating the scouts. They are looking at the pitch gun stat to see what his velocity is. His last start was a disaster but his last 3 starts in San Diego saw a dramatic jump in flyballs being hit. I am sure that is why Boston, so desperate for a starting pitcher, backed off. Now it may be a mechanical thing that Cooper can fix. Unfortunately, Fenway is a tough place to accomplish it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) Baseball's gods gave the Sox the win after listening to Boston's crew mocking Putnam and saying he "deserved to lose." If anybody else was listening, those Bah-ston announcers were brutal in blasting the Sox. Serves them right to not score that run and wind up losing. The White Sox ... can't win a game in the Central (cept against the AAA Twins once in a while) but usually play OK against everybody else, albeit Washington and the Yankees pasted Chicago pretty good this season. The ECK will tell it as it is. He is obviously pro Red Sox but he is very objective as to what he sees. He was filling in for Remy who is also objective for a team color man.
