  1. I do think it is interesting that Boston still does not have a destination position for Moncada. Once they determined SS was not an option they tried 2nd. But Pedroia is in the way for upward movement and he has been very average there so far. Before road games they are now working on 3rd ( where Devers plays) and the outfield which already has Betts and Bradley and Benintendi headed there shortly. Moncada may end up being Ortiz's replacement at DH or maybe they will try 1st next. I wonder if he could be had for a Shields + Fulmer right now. Gives Boston pitching now and for the future w/o having to unload a lot of prospects.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) If Texas wants Sale, then we need a package built around Mazara, Gallo, & Brinson. That may not be as sexy as a potential Red Sox trade with Moncada and/or Benintendi, but it's still a ton of positional talent to build around going forward. We'd probably have to include Melky and I'd fully expect some lesser prospects included as well, but I think there's a framework that works for both teams. Plus it allows them to keep Profar, who fills their short-term better than our long-term ones. Sale has to bring back at least 1 ML high quality player plus prospects. A package of just prospects, regardless of ranking is a bad deal. For example, as "sexy "as the Red Sox trade is, both young studs are presently learning new positions in AA. Which is probably why if Sale is to be moved, it should happen in the offseason so teams like Texas or Boston will be more likely to part w a ML starter.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) If I am Hahn, I am not trading Sale without getting those two plus some. Case closed and if it was the off-season I'd want one of Betts / Bradley plus one of Moncada / Benitendi and their best pitching prospect. Now some of you may say I am delusional, but that is what it would take if I were the GM. I would add they traded away their top pitching prospect who was in the lower minors last week. Remember the Red Sox have not developed a good pitcher they drafted in years. Also, if they could get Betts in the deal( offseason), they would not move Benitendi. So a Betts/Moncada + a lower prospect might be a viable option for Sale only. .
  4. I really doubt Sale will be traded. But if by chance he is, hopefully security sweeps the clubhouse for sharp objects before the trade is announced.
  5. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) Sale loves his teammates. They really stood behind him. He wants to pitch. Not as much as he loves the comfort of his uni.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Betts >> Bradley and has more value than Sale by himself, so not sure why Bradley is the untouchable one and Betts isn't. Bradley>>> Betts. Bradley higher in OPS-SLUG-OBP and Bradley already may be the best defensive CF in all of baseball. He pushed Betts to RF
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Surprised about the Frazier news. I think Hahn will trade to save face. Some possiblities 1. Frazier or Melky not both--get back 2 mid-level prospects 2. Duke-gets a mid-level prospect 3. Miggy and 5th slot is juggled rest of year.-- high mid-level prospect since SP pitching seems a hot commodity. 4. If Robertson does go, I am afraid it will be mostly money and a couple of low prospects.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Part Moancada, Benintendi, Devers and Swihart. Sale/Q's price alone covers the first three. Robertson could justify Swihart on his own with the current market. Then give them a starter to make get the trigger pulled. Likewise with Urias, Pederson, De Leon and someone like Montas or Verdugo. That is an awful trade for Sale. None are close to being MLB proven. Moancada is a great hitting prospect who is in AA learning to play 2nd base because it is the only infield position he seems able to learn. Obviously Pedroia is in front of him for many years. Red Sox think he will ultimately move to the outfield( but he would be blocked again if Benintendi is legit) or more likely replace Ortiz as a DH. Swihart is on 60 day DL. Red Sox felt his defense was not ML quality and sent him back to AAA to learn left field. Again, he is blocked at majors level if Benintendi is ready next year. I think there is no way you trade sale unless Betts( Bradley is probably untouchable) is included. Doubt Red Sox trade Betts unless next winter if they do not win it all. No clue what Q would get. Maybe this package for Q and hope Moancada can learn 2nd and Swihart LF at AAA next year and Benintendi can jump to outfield next year. FYIW---Per CBS, Peter Gammons who used to be very connected to Red Sox but not sure any more said Moancada, Ben. and Devers are not being traded. Maybe Dombrowski is posturing but............................
  9. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) Making no moves is a huge mistake for this organization. No, making bad moves is a huge mistake for this organization. They should only make moves that "on paper" improve the team. There is a much bigger trade market in the offseason but usually more desperate traders now.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Sign me up Robertson is owed a lot of money in the coming years. I think the return in prosects will be very limited unless the White Sox are covering part of the future salary. My guess is he stays w us.
  11. Saw Ranaudo pitch a few weeks ago against Red Sox AAA and he was outstanding that game. Boston I think it was a 3 hit shutout over 8
  12. ESPN will probably start their broadcast w interviews w Sale, KW, and Ventura. That will be followed with Melissa Rivers comparing the style of the regular uniform and the throwback as well as some video of the disco burning party.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) If they trade the rotation, I'd expect Melky, Eaton and Frazier all dealt. Also, aim higher for something like Tatis Jr. That's a name no one but FS guys would know of if not for his inclusion in the deal. If they trade the rotation, they may need Melky, Eaton and Frazier to pitch. Really, if they trade the rotation...................................................
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) Let's start an all-time list of players who have refused to play because of the jersey 1. Chris Sale Anyone know of anyone else? In the history of sports? No but I think it got more ( and worse) national publicity than Tim Duncan refusing to wear a tie to the White House.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 02:56 AM) Sale is actually right. Robin had to have Sale's back on this. What if Sale would have hurt his arm wearing that s*** jersey? It would have come out that he hated the jersey and didn't want to wear it and somebody woulda been in deep trouble. Don't laugh. He hated the jersey. He might have gotten hurt that night and been able to blame whomever wanted them to wear the collars. Sale handled this totally wrong. If he was against the uni's so much, he should have taken a bunch of them out to the field and burned them in front of the fans.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) The "trade value dropping" tweets have been all over tonight FWIW: Was watching a little of the Red Sox /Twins broadcast the other night. Steve Lyons, flaky himself during his career, was doing the color and play by play Dave O'Brien brought up the Chris Sale incident that night. Lyons asked if O'Brien thought teams would now shy away from Sale. O'Brien said "no with that left arm he can wear any uniform he wants".
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) I think the Sox don't have any good choices. But I've come to the view at the moment that their most likely path is to try again to patch holes in the offseason and go for it again in 2017. Chris Sale and Quintana will always be tradeable, so there is no rush to unload them, and their value won't be lower next season. The only guys you could unload for some value before their run is up is Frazier and Lawrie and Melky. All are signed through next year. What would they net? Would it be enough to go for the tear down now, as opposed to next year, if the Sox fail again? I think any tear down is looking at another 3+ years to anything competitive, under best case scenarios. At that point, Rodon is nearing the end of his first contract, Anderson is starting arbitration, Eaton will be over 30. In short, there will be no one left from this current team that will be a bargain player the way that Sale, Quintana and Eaton are now. And waiting another year to start the rebuild will give you another year of development of whatever we have in the minors. And since all those guys are years off, that's a plus, not a minus. If we had several guys on the cusp, a tear down now might yield a more rapid return to relevance. I don't see that. So, the Sox should play out the year. Unload any guys with 1-year contracts who won't be back for whatever you can get. But keep all the pitchers and the 2-year guys, make what moves you can in the offseason, and try again. As part of going for it in 2017, however, the Sox have to try it with a different manager. Ventura has had 2 years of tweaked teams to show something, and he's failed. Not sure a new manager will make the difference, but it has to be tried. Going into next year, the Sox could be stronger. SP - Sale and Q will still anchor. Shields can be a solid #3. Rodon needs to be a lot better. Gonzalez might be kept as one of the options for the 5th slot. This would be better than they started 2016. BP - lots of guys injured at the moment. Return to health should improve this unit. Plus Fullmer and Burdi might strengthen it. Fullmer might also be considered as a 5th starter option. Lineup keepers. Anderson, Eaton, Melky, Frazier, Lawrie, Abreu. Not great, but potentially servicable. Key here is Abreu. He has to turn it around or the Sox aren't going to have a decent offense. Lineup turnover. CF, DH, C. Those are the 3 biggest holes. They need to be filled with quality, not afterthoughts. Guys who are BETTER than the 6 keepers. To conclude: when you are 3 good players and a new manager from having a contending team, it's not time to throw in the towel and start over. Better to go for it. If you miss, it won't have really cost you anything. Good job but you ended flat. Finding a CF and a C better than the 6 keepers is a pipe dream.................unless you are trading a Q, Sale or Rodon. Quality CF and C are limited to begin with. DH could be filled w trading some mid range prospects and maybe getting lucky or picking up a guy like Mourneau who bounces back w a solid season.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) Chuck GarfienVerified account ‏@ChuckGarfien I know Chris Sale likes wearing the 1983 throwbacks. He clearly had issues with the '76 ones. And yes, there's more to it than that. Does the value of the 76 jerseys go up after tonight??? The investigation may turn up if anyone bought a case of 76 jerseys and they will be charged with insider buying.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) This is the funniest baseball story of the year, bar none. WRONG. You forgot the Drake
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) Honestly wearing torn up jerseys would be pretty awesome or shorts like a softball team
  21. According to ESPN, Sale was caught w a clubhouse attendant letting air out of the Tiger bats.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) Wonder if they keep Q and trade Sale or unload both. Albers is the key. If he can throw a complete game shutout tonight , Q is gone as well....................
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) Betts would be one hell of an add. He got hurt last night and had to leave a close game they ended up losing. He is not scratched due to a trade. Doesn't mean he couldn't go in a trade but the knee soreness is real.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) I'd totally be willing to trade him to Boston for a package centered around Moncada. Huh??? You want to trade a top 5 pitcher in baseball for a package centered around a AA 2nd baseman who some project to be a DH in the majors. Time for your parents to take your computer away.
  25. QUOTE (michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) I'm not a young fan...but this is a totally silly comment by you. Baseball in 1960 was a different game. Exactly one team from each division went to the playoffs. From 1957 to 1967 those speed/defense/pitching Sox teams won an average of 90 games a year and went to ONE playoffs. From 63-65 they won 94, 98 and 95 games and never went to the playoffs. IF in that ten season stretch the playoffs were like today...the Sox would have gone to and won a few world series because they had GREAT pitching, defense and speed. In a seven game series they would have beaten the Yankees a few times. But in that day you had to have a fully balanced team. You don't have to do that today. When the Diamondbacks won the WS they had Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling and a juiced up Luis Gonzalez and not much else. We learn every year that it is no longer who had the best team over 162 games as it was before the 1970's...it is who is hot with great starting pitching in the playoffs. Agree totally different era. So go back 5 years and the World Series winners--KC,SF,Boston, SF and StL all had one thing in common....................none had the best Staff ERA in the majors. Boston has won 2 World Series in this era and neither year finished in even the Top 10. You need good pitching and good hitting and usually great hitting or pitching w/o being good in the other area does not work. I think san Fran did it one year w pitching and defense and average offense but it is rare.
