  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) I agree about the ceiling. I don't think we're going to be able to do much better than the packages Cameron threw around at the deadline (Moncada/Kopech/B prospect, Benintendi/Devers/B Prospect, or Urias/Verdugo/B Prospect). Could get one big piece, but I'm doubtful that two big pieces are going to happen (ie: Moncada and Benintendi together). But I would never do those packages. For example, Benintendi came up and was really good offensively and defensively before he got hurt. Moncada has been awful offensively and challenged defensively playing a pretty new position. Neither has showed success at AAA since they each skipped it. Even together w prospects I do not trade Sale for them. Boston would have to throw in Bradley or Betts and I don't see that happening since now they will most likely make the playoffs and their starting pitching has really improved 2nd half. I would trade Rodon for both but Boston would probably not do it. I would be on the fence for Q if they included both and several other quality prospects.
  2. I am not convinced there is a team willing or more likely able to give a major haul for Sale. I don't think Boston , New York or Dodgers will be willing to give up their core of young players now that all 3 are having solid 2nd halfs. I don't think Sale should be traded for prospects only. So I think in the end the Sox will not find a trade partner for Sale that will give them 4-5 MLB players/prospects in return.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) He mentioned Melky, Robertson, Frazier, and Lawrie's contracts expiring soon. I would imagine they may be the first lined up out the door. Although if they do trade Frazier, I would hang on to Lawrie. He isn't going to bring much back, and has had nice stretches this year. You could put him at 3B, and hope he plays well enough to flip at the deadline if they aren't winning. It would really be radical to trade Sale and Q. I would imagine that is not the plan unless they get an offer they can't turn down. Lawrie had a couple of bad years defensively playing 3rd. I think because he is hurt and had a mediocre year they are forced to bring him back at 2nd.
  4. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Finally finally it sounds like the Sox front office realizes you CANNOT try to contend by trading pieces from a weak farm system and signing free agents. Of course, reading that and agreeing seems obvious, but it practice they have actually believed that's a valid strategy. I am very content with a full rebuild, and only leaving guys like Anderson, Rodon, Burdi, Hansen, Collins. Might suck and it might not work, but we're at that point. I would assume that a full rebuild would also mean changing the way they run their business. Scouts and minor league personnel should also see turnover as well. That should be the first indication they are serious. Before you start acquiring young talent you need people in place to work with them.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) Boras is going to get $10 million for Wieters from SOMEONE. $15 million for Fowler for one year. $7 million for Volquez. $8 million for Moreland. Actually doesn't Shields add as well. They only paid a partial on him this year but get the full load next year.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) IMO, after reading one of the beat guys tweet out that the 2 teams were laying the ground work for an off-season trade, the Bo Sox just didn't wanna trade JBJ, or any major leaguer, mid season. Why "Lay the ground work for an off-season trade" and not just do it then? Either there is talks of a major leaguer or possibly a 2016 draft pick. Is Swihart bad defensively or do they just wanna get his bat in the lineup? Bad defensively. Now he has been hurt so I doubt he has any trade value
  7. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) I think it was just stated: to retain his trade value if need be. I don't think they can afford to trade him unless it is in a deal where a SP is coming back. Ranaudo is really struggling so going into the spring starting pitching is once again up in the air. After the top 3 Shields, Miggy and Fulmer are leading the pack with Turner on the outside. Once again they will have to dumster dive for a 5th starter like last year and hope they strike gold.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) Shields with apparent back problems. Is this a possible reason for such a bad season save for a month or so? Sad because he had some solid years in Tampa. Maybe he left his fastball there......... "Maybe Shields’ back really is bothering him, but this is what it would sound like even if he were 100 percent, because his South Side tenure has been the worst run in the history of White Sox starting pitching. He has no precedents when it comes to ERA (7.50), ERA+ (54) or home run rate (2.8 per nine innings), all of which are easily the worst in franchise history for a guy with at least 80 innings. Throw in a realistic bid at 20 losses, and further starts would be inhumane — more so for the fans, but for Shields, too, I guess. It looks more like a mercy flush than an injury, but those aren’t mutually exclusive outcomes, and it’s all the same in the end, anyway." http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/9/6/12812...ember-auditions
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) It'll never happen, but I would both buy and sell. Sign Rich Hill to really corner the SP market.....Trade Q to Boston for JBJ/Moncada/Swihart/Rodriguez.....Hope Shields retires.....Resign Morneau with intentions of potentially flipping him once Collins is ready. Sale-Hill-Rodon-Rodriguez-Gonzalez/Fulmer 1. Eaton RF 2. Anderson SS 3. JBJ CF 4. Abreu 1B 5. Morneau DH 6. Frazier 3B 7. Melky LF 8. Moncada 2B 9. Swihart C Add Burdi, Putnam, and Petricka to this disaster of a pen. If it fails again, then you trade Sale. Boston would not trade JBJ in a Sale package. Why would they do it for Q. They also will not trade Rodriguez in a package for a pitcher. Swihart is a left fielder and no longer a catcher. Boston's starting pitching has been really good since All Star braek. Dombrowski will probably look for a Hellickson or Gray deal.
  10. 1. Fire the person(s) who watched/scouted Shields and said trade for him.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) So why would these guys be the guys to tear it all down and start over? Seems that is a bigger disaster waiting to happen than adding middling players hoping it all works out. At least they have Sale and Quintana. Quintana is going on the White Sox cruise in November, so it doesn't appear the Sox think they will trade him. I am going to a season ticket holder event with Hahn tomorrow. I will report if he gives us anything. Not sure you read his post. His theory is to wait until next July and if the team is still struggling blow it up. He thinks the trade pieces will be worth more next July. Meanwhile go out this winter and get a C, CF, 5th starter and DH. I asked how will you acquire the first two w/o trading since it didn't work last winter. I also don't agree guys like Eaton, Frazier and Melky will be more valuable next July than they will be this off-season. Melky is having a better than career year for example.
  12. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 06:54 PM) And obviously you aren't willing to wait another 4 months of next season to start the rebuild. I am. I'd like to see it played out before unloading all of our major league pieces of value. Clearly many here think the White Sox have no chance to compete for a playoff spot next year with 3 or 4 acquisitions this offseason but I do. I don't think they are as far away as many here are portraying. There is so much parity in the AL and in the Central even with the way the Indians are playing that I believe plugging the gaping holes in this 25 man roster will result in a much better and more balanced team. It wouldn't take a star player to get much more production out of C, DH, CF, and 5th starter. Bullpens are funny too - add Burdi, return Putnam and Petricka, and pick up another arm and that will look like a completely revamped pen. Again, if they are out of it next July, sell the pieces then when they are arguably even more valuable than during the offseason. A couple of thoughts. What are you trading to get a C or CF because you are not getting them out of free agency?? We saw last season that Jackson was the best this FO was willing to spend on. We also saw what they got for C. Then, if they are struggling next July, it probably means that some of the pieces you would unload are worth less than they were this trade deadline or off-season. I think your idea works only if you are getting rid of Williams and Hahn. Then it would make sense to let the new GM decide what direction he wants to go w the current roster. I say Williams and Hahn but the first person that needs to go is the scout that suggested they trade for Shields.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) I guess the eight year playoff drought doesn't bother you. Worse, would add that despite an 8 year drought, the system is not loaded with young talent on their way up.
  14. Wishing you and your family the best.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) When was Mike Trout selected? And of course you totally misinterpreted what I said about the pick. I never stated great players weren't on the board at that time, I went back through the actual 26 picks 25 years and picking a releiver who is actually good makes your pick better than most of the others. It was a point to people who say you don't draft relievers that high. No Deception Jomes has a career WAR almost as high as the last 25 #26 picks combined. I think any time your 26th pick makes and sticks on the roster you did well. I don't care what position they play.
  16. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 12:06 AM) I'd be happy with Puig if the Sox can get him and put hin in LF If not, perhaps a Josh Reddick. I would sign Austin Jackson for Center and have Charlie Tilson platoon depending on RH/LH starters. Eaton stays in RF Frazier has to come back Tim Anderson, obviously at SS Saladino is my 2nd baseman and I trade Lawrie. Abreu stays at first. Narvaez is our starting catcher absent some trade. DH is a tough call not knowing if Melky will be traded and whether Morneau even wants to come back. The bullpen is a joke. The Sox have to DFA Albers and trade Robertson for anything they can get for him. I would try to trade Lawrie, Robertson and Melky, DFA Albers and, Avi Garcia. Not sure if Shields will have trade value but f doesn't DFA him as well. He is just too erratic from start to start. Lawrie got hurt after posting down numbers. He has no trade value. You have to play him next year and hope his value increases before the trade deadline. .
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Yeah I still find team entertaining. Last year was way way worse for reasons I can't even identify. But this group seems more competent and fun. On this date last year Sox were 8 games under .500 so at 6 right now they are having a better season.................... Unfortunately they then went into KC and won 3 of 4 so we need to keep winning this weekend.
  18. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I don't know why our front office wants JBJ so bad. He'd be a player I would be more than willing to sell high on if I was Boston with the prospects coming up through their system. He is close to if not the best defensive center fielder in baseball. Add to that he has 22 HR and 75 RBI and cheaper than Sale But I would take the story w a grain of salt. That is a Levine story. I had posted before the trade deadline that I thought Bradley was an untouchable based on the position he plays for Boston. That ship has "sailed " now since Boston probably will go for a 2nd tier pitcher w the emergence of Porcello to go w Price.
  19. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 06:08 PM) It's kind of amazing how many of their prospects are good to great right away compared to our organization. Yes but they can't develop a pitcher.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 1h1 hour ago Changeup is changing things for Carlos Rodon, who was 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA in August. http://bit.ly/2bZ8wNx Unfortunately this is September. Hopefully nobody told Rodon.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Compared to the top tier of MLB? They were tied for 20th in total revenue, and less than half of what the leading team was. Let me put it this way, to make it even clearer. They were $47 million in revenue ahead of Tampa Bay, the lowest revenue team in baseball. They trailed the Yankees by $276 million. They are clearly a have not. Agree and really a mid-market team in a large market city.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) Have the Sox actually said this? Ortiz said he wants him to replace him but that's because they're good buds. Moncada just got called up. It will be interesting to see if he can play 3rd. If not he is a very real DH possiblity. So is Hanley Ramirez and they still have the Panda as another player returning. They may have enough internal options to cover DH
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) I think we all know what the reality is. They like what they're doing now and they're going to do it again. Sounds like they feel .500 next year is realistic and they are close to getting there...............................
  24. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Our first baseman finally pushes his OPS above .800 and people want me to apologize for saying he was figured out. News flash, .805 ops and 19 homers isn't all that great for a below average fielding 1B. Jose just isn't what we thought was. He had a very good season his first year. He dropped back some last year and will probably be fairly close to last year's numbers again. His power numbers may be down a little but he is walking more and striking out less. Defensively he has been pretty mediocre since he arrived although his defensive stats are better this year over last. .
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) The Sox like to put their top guys into playoff situations. They do it often. Are you being sarcastic or do you mean at the minor league level??
