  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) Here is a Rick Hahn quote that contradicts the thread title. He really would have no reason to lie. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/208...chable-players/ Agree although it is a little stale as he has had 10+ days to see more of the potential market. But the last paragraph probably is still in play as well. A lot of our guys, given their druthers, want to win a championship in Chicago," Hahn said. "And we've made no secret the last several years that is has been our preference to win with the high caliber of players we have here now. Again, until there starts being transactions in that direction, we're evaluating all our options.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) When everywhere we turn there is bad news for the Sox Frazier is actually a ray of sunshine. When it seems as if no free agents want to come here, here is Todd Frazier telling the world the Sox are a team he wants to stay with . Bless his heart for being such a goodwill Ambassador for the Sox. We could use more like him. Chris Sale has said he wants to stay too.....................................
  3. I would like to be Katsuhiro Nakamura, the general manager of the Hanshin Tigers. Rumors are swirling in Japan that Rick Hahn has approached the Tigers about a potential trade for Chris Sale..........................
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) I think that one additional factor which favors Boston is that they can afford to trade several top prospects. It is quite apparent that they want to win now, and Sale could make the difference for them. They won't need Benintendi, with Betts and JBJ in their outfield. They have enough depth at 3RD, to part with Devers. They can afford to trade at least one of their young starters, if they acquire Sale. Despite Dombrowski's insistence that he won't part with Moncada, they don't need him either, for this championship run. Even if Chicago couldn't pry all of those guys loose, there is Travis, as a substitute for one of Moncada or Devers. Remember they called him up in August because they do not have a LF. If he is traded, they have to find a replacement which they don't seem to have in house. That is why I thought they might be more apt to trade Moncada if they are going for a big splash. He is a player w/o a position at the present time. To me, Benintendi seems likely to be a solid MLB player. But most writers indicate Moncada could be a real stud if he makes it. Time will tell.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) This pretty much confirms a White Sox rebuild. They have loved McCann and would have topped that return if they were going for it. Although it probably wasn't going to happen, that means Gary Sanchez is off the table for NY in any trades.
  6. QUOTE (South Sider @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) I think the Red Sox owners will push DD to make a deal for Sale. Those guys want to win and they know the Red Sox are on the cusp of having another championship team, and pitching will put them over the top. They need Sale. The Dodgers need Sale too, and I think they have an equally good chance of landing Sale, but I just think the Red Sox owners will eventually tell DD to make it happen... which would really be in the White Sox favor. Maybe they could still pry Moncada and Benitendi +... Not sure their owners are that concerned since they have already won 2 World Championships and are raking in money with attendance, merchandise, TV and corporate endorsements. They even own the AAA franchise. They probably approve major trades but from all indications in the media, DD runs the show especially w the departure of Larry Lucchino. They literally have a monopoly in New England until football season ( NFL since college football is not relevant)
  7. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) If we don't get moncada and andrew bentrilln no deal. Probably no deal.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 07:41 AM) I saw this. Robin used his starters too much and his relievers too much. 4th outfielder should be able to pitch relief as well.........................
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) Didnt really seem like your point at all. Seemed like your point was to call his source dumb, and now you are backtracking it to what you feel is realistic Sorry if that was how it looked. My point was the source said a possiblity was JBJ and Benintendi or Moncada plus. He obviously just threw names out since Boston would not trade their starting LF and CF in a trade. As I posted elsewhere, writers just throw out trades at this time of year with no factual basis. For example the two articles in another thread the last few days : 1. Had Benintendi Devers and Kopech + for Sale 2. The other said Boston pulled Moncada and Kopech off the table in any trades. Obviously one or both have no reliable source backing them.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) According to Jonah Birenbaum of The Score, a Red Sox deal involving Chris Sale would include Benintendi, Devers, and Kopech. https://twitter.com/Pete_BBS/status/798949568733966336 FWIW: Here is another source that says Boston has pulled Moncada and Kopech off the table in any trades and will not overpay for Sale. There will be numerous unsubstantiated rumors( opinions) every day. I saw somewhere todayon MSN that Yankees top priority is getting Mike Trout. www.inquisitr.com/.../boston-red-sox-trade-rumors-chris-sale-bidding-war-with-chica...
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) Dude pay attention. It was said he was speaking hypothetically. I understand dude. Hypothetically you and I want their starting outfield plus Moncada and Devers..........................................and the people in hell want ice water. My point was he didn't put out a realistic trade.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Callis talking about a package from Boston of JBJ, Moncada or Benintendi, Devers and Kopech. I would say he is a lousy source. There is no way Boston would trade JBJ and Benintendi in any trade. That would leave them with 2 starting outfield vacancies. These people are just throwing stuff out and hoping something sticks.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) I don't expect each trade to go perfectly, which is why making more trades hedges you risk. Let's say hypothetically Sale, Quintana, Eaton, & Jones can all land four prospects. Let's assume on average 50% of prospects acquired via trade bust. Trade all four guys and you have a decent chance of ending up with 8 productive players across the deals. But only trade one guy and you could realistically end up with anything from four hits to four misses. The more trades we make, the less randomness comes into play. So again, who would you trade is this rebuild was up to you? IMO, you pretty much have to move three of Sale, Quintana, Eaton, & Jones. Those are our big four trade chips and the only ones who will land elite prospects. If you don't move enough of them, then all we're doing is a half-ass rebuild and I'm not sure we get better in the long-run. As for Eaton specifically, I'm not sure you'll get fair value for him. And quite frankly, I'm not sure you need it. Even if the rebuild goes well, you're talking about 2 or 3 seasons before we are competitive. So if we hold onto Eaton, we're throwing away two or three years of his surplus value. There is a point in negotiations where maybe you don't quite get fair value, but that you get enough in return that you still feel it's the better move long-term. And let's not ignore the fact that Eaton is at peak value right now, so there is a bit more incentive in moving him now. I understand your theory but then maybe the rebuilding w prospects doesn't work. If you are going in expecting 50% of prospects to fail, then it makes a lot more sense trading for young established players. So we are better off w a Jackie Bradley Jr than a Moncad or Benintendi because Bradley is a proven major leaguer. Instead of Hahn trading 3 for 12 prospects he is better off getting 2 established players for each one. 6 established young players would be much better than 12 prospects
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Interesting. If we can trade the likes of Lawrie, Frazier, Robertson, and Melky and get a few decent prospects back, then trade the big guns like Sale, Q, Eaton and Abreu we can be in for business. Lawrie and Robertson 's value may be down as both are coming off down seasons as well as surgery. Doubt either goes until next July.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I don't think he is either. My preference is Swihart in all honesty and he might be the Sox preference as well. Who knows. Vazquez's defense alone forced the Red Sox to send Swihart back to AAA to learn LF last spring. Vazquez has shown the ability to throw as a catcher and handle pitchers. But he can't hit. Swihart can hit but really struggled catching. My guess is Boston will unload Swihart as part of a trade for a reliever now that LF is porbably no longer an option as well.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) I'm curious as to which player the Sox must have of the bunch. Devers is a must and so is Kopech. Devers gives us a legit power 3B and Kopech would give us another young top arm to go with Rodon, Fulmer, Burdi and Hansen. I know we wanted Benintendi last draft. Just wonering, why is Kopech a must. He has already been suspended 50 day for taking an illegal substance and fractured his hand in a fight in the dugout w a teammate.
  17. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...op-priority-red Here is the full article: FWIW-Maybe Dombrowski is playing poker w Hahn but this has been the consensus for most of the New England media as well. ww.providencejournal.com/sports/20161107/year-after-setting-market-red-sox-plan-to-be-more-reactive-this-offseason
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Coop will fix him. He seems to be sort of like Donnie Veal. If they can figure a way to get him some control, he could be really good. If not, he is minor league fodder. More options next spring the better we are
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 02:34 PM) Yeah, that was one of the best posts on this topic. I feel like I've heard circular arguments otherwise since last August, when many expressed it was best to wait til the offseason rather than try and force a deal at the trade deadline. Now it seems as though we're already hearing arguments for why we can wait til the trade deadline again if we want. I don't think ANYONE here is suggesting we MUST move Chris Sale and others at this point, but if the reason we're not moving him and others is because we're trying to "time the market," or we think we can make incremental improvements if we only wait a little longer, I believe that line of thinking and strategy is just wrong. It isn't just about maximizing the return on one or two players; it's about moving the entire organization in an entirely different, more productive direction than the one we've been trying for the last decade. While these first few trades are very critical to our future, this is an outstanding environment with which to make this transition. So let's do it. There is also an in-between approach. Hahn could go into the winter meetings offering both Sale and Q and taking the best offer if either fills his wish list. Keep the other which I would assume would be Sale since I don't see a team trading 4 or 5 top prospects. They can also try and trade Frazier or Melky as well. Then the front office will get a better feel for what they have in spring training and first half of next season. Then next July try again to trade either Sale or Q for another prospect package with the intent of filling some holes the winter didn't fill. That also gives the staff a chance this winter to work with 3 -5 new prospects as opposed to 7-9. So you are stretching a full rebuild to this winter, next July and finish off next winter.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) I think if there is a team most motivated to overpay for Sale, it should be the Dodgers. Assuming Kershaw is 100% next season, he and Sale pretty much dominate the NL, and think of those 2 in the playoffs. Pretty much takes left handed hitters out of the equation. For the Cubs that is Rizzo and Schwarber. And they can restock their farm system by signing a million international guys. Rizzo is a +.300 hitter against them is his career albeit 20 ABs. Schwarber has never faced either
  21. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Please God, just get it through their thick heads that it is time to rebuild and get some good players with the right moves. Trade the skinny headcase and get a kings ransom for him and make nobody untouchable. Make some real progress instead of staying stuck in neutral. If the skinny is a headcase, he won't bring back a king's ransom. Maybe Q will bring a queen's ransom instead.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 5, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) Theoretically, it can be done. But ya have to trade Q to Boston for Benintendi, Kopech and Devers. Then ya have to spend real money and hope to hell these young pitchers are ready (Fulmer, Burdi) I just want to rebuild because that's best. I saw today we're interested in Bautista and Encarnacion. Also need to find a catcher. Rotation Sale Rodon Shields Fulmer Gonzalez or try and get another starter in free agency/trade (Also put Rodriguez here if ya swapped he and Kopech) Pen-The pen is what we need to spend big on and try to upgrade well. Burdi Petricka Putnam LHP Jones Holland? On rehab deal if possible but he's got plenty of suitors. Robertson-Could package him to Boston and sign Chapman to a big dea. Also look at Jansen. DH-Bautista/Encarnacion 1B-Abreu 2B-Lawrie 3B-Frazier SS-Anderson LF-Melky CF-Benintendi RF-Eaton 1. Eaton-RF 2. Benintendi-CF 3. Abreu-1B 4. Bautista/Encarnacion-DH 5. Frazier-3B 6. Melky-LF 7. Anderson-SS 8. Lawrie-2B 9. Catcher-Free Agency or trade (Castro/Wieters?) Not thrilled entirely with them. Or ya could try and get Vasquez from Boston in a trade. This is nice on paper but a lot to spend for a lighting in a bottle chance type season IMO. This isn't what I want. I want a full rebuild. Or you could trade Sale instead of Q and get a bigger return IF someone would pony up which I think Boston will do. This was just off the top of my head. I don't think Boston will trade Benintendi. But I would doubt Hahn would want Kopech. In the last yearh, he has served a 50 game suspension for taking a PES and he fractured his hand in a fight in the dugout w a teammate. He might make Sale look like an altar boy
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) Could be why he wasn't his usual self last season. Many posters think he could be traded in a rebuild. I doubt that now. He may be more valuable next July than he is now after a mediocre year followed by minor surgery.
  24. When Napoli took a shi* between innings, that is only the 3rd time in World Series history that a player has taken a shi* in a game 7 at home. These stats become boring after a while...................
  25. Joe Buck....................yuck. makes a bad night worse.
