Selling at the deadline: Renteria and locker room reaction
SCCWS replied to dspellacy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) How do you figure this? Lucas Harrell returned Travis Demeritte last year who's on a lot of top 100 lists. This is just a few months after Harrell was pitching in Korea. James Shields returned Fernando Tatis Jr, also on top 100 lists. There are other examples too, I'm sure I know it's not apples to apples but saying Gonzales and Holland will get you NOBODY is incorrect. Agree they have some value. But you can only trade so many starters based on who is available to call up. Rushing guys like Danish and Fulmer could hinder their progress if they are not having solid AAA seasons. Another concern is Olney's article saying there will be a glut of starting pitching available at the deadline. Maybe you unload Gozo and holland and hold Q for the winter. -
Petricka & Rodon and 12 Man Pitching Staff
SCCWS replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 02:49 AM) Covey goes down when Rodon comes back. Petricka to Charlotte for rehab? As for Burdi and Beck, they can stay in Charlotte since there is no rush to bring them up. Agree on Burdi and Beck. If the Sox intend to trade Jones and Robertson, then Beck and Burdi will stay in Charlotte till they are traded unless one goes down to injury. -
I agree Pirates are most likely out of the Q-stakes. Would have been nice if Q got a start this series in NY since I think he will come back big in his next start after the Minny stinker.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) One of those guys in your list is in the same ballpark as Quintana. All of the rest are somewhere between garbage and ok. Agree. Also, not every team in contention is looking for a 1/2 starter. Some will be looking for a 4/5. We saw Boston last year go for a 4/5 in Pomeranz at the deadline but then went for Sale in the off-season. It may turn out that next winter may be the best time to deal Q.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) Should have traded when you could. Now we are stuck with him. He really has only had 2 bad innings. He pitched well last Sunday but the Sox scored 1 run. He was awful in the first yesterday but pitched decently after that and wasn't going to win anyway since the Sox could only muster 1 hit. Despite some big performances the Sox offense has been mostly brutal. They have a game they scored 11, one they scored 10, and have averaged 2 runs a game in the others. It looking around the league there are a ton of players with crazy awful offensive numbers. I think Q had a different routine this spring and peaked for the WBC, and it will take him a bit to get back to normal. He was awful in the first yesterday. But over 5 innings he gave up 5 double and a triple and he walked 5. So there is some concern since it was the lowly Twins that were pounding him. But I agree that maybe he got high for the WBC and coming back to the White Sox and all the negativity with this season may be affecting him. Hopefully by June he will be mowing them down again

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) A lot depends on Rodon, too. And then Abreu becomes a huge question mark, but you still have Hayes, Delmonico and Davidson over there...which leaves that gaping hole in CF still. 3B. Saladino/Davidson/Delmonico SS. Anderson 2B. Moncada 1B. Abreu/Hayes/Davidson/Delmonico C. Collins LF. Delmonico??? CF. Luis Robert RF. Avi Garcia Right now, we're still at least two bats shy in the OF. Wouldn't count on Willy Garcia or Liriano. Engel, May or Tilson, for that matter. Only 24 but so far at AAA he is a .250ish hitter. I think Delmonico will be a b/up infielder.

April 15th Game Thread: White Sox @ MN Twins
SCCWS replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Idiotic to publicly try and trade a guy and expect him to pitch like normal. He's a human being and the distraction would be too much for anyone. Hahn really screwed this 1 up Good point. Q may be mentally shot after all the trade talk. -
Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians 4/12/2017
SCCWS replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Moncada clearly wasn't ready, and was 21 years old with ~100 AB at the AA level. Anderson is different, He's got 400+ ML AB. I said he has to change his approach. I was criticizing his approach, not him as a player. He's fine as a defensive player and sure he could turn it around. I was going on the combo of stats+eye test. He looks awful at the plate. Sometimes I don't communicate what I want to clearly. Understood. But remember in those 400 ML AB he hit .282. For a shortstop that is above average. Guys have slumps. Judging anything on 7 games is not realistic especially for players going from 80 degrees to 50 degrees. Some players struggle with that alone. -
Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians 4/12/2017
SCCWS replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) This is different, because bad stretches involve bad luck. When a hitter strikes out 33% of ABs in with no walks, in a 7 game stretch, it is more than a "bad stretch" it is being bad at hitting a baseball. Sure, he has 4 hits but until Anderson starts hitting it hard with more consistency, and making more contact, I am going to assume that he sucks. Hasn't your argument been that prospects are suspects until proven otherwise? I'm taking that approach. Yes, I wanted the rebuild but I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade. The losing that the Sox have done since 2011 will make it that much sweeter when they are winning again. Good you didn't see Moncada's stint in Boston last year. Besides his hitting, with his bad defense and mental errors you would have wanted him put on waivers. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Why not Rymer Liriano over Cody Asche. I would guess the Renteria comments during ST that Liriano was going to need time to get back to full strength is one reason why he is not up with the White Sox.
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Bring up Delmonico or Hayes and send down a pitcher or send Jacob May to the minors. Even with Asche platooning in RF with Avi, Delmonico could DH against RH starting pitchers or pinch hit. Too early. Both Delmonico and Hayes were .250ish hitters in a half season of AAA last year. It makes more sense to let them play full-time in AAA and see if they have improved before calling them up later in the summer.
-
At this rate, he could be the AL MVP this year so there is no way Hahn can do anything but offer him a long-term contract next winter. RF is secure for the forseeable future. Now for CF.......................................
-
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 12:52 AM) Moncada would look awful nice in CF. 7 for 11 to start the year in AAA The 7 for 11 is great especially since he has never played at that level. But he needs time at one position and the FO feel that is 2nd. I know he also stole at least 1 base
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) I would like to have seen Jacob May take a pitch after two guys walked. Instead he weakly grounds out on the first pitch. I think Leury Garcia has to start in Center. I'm not sure May is ready for major league pitching. Perhaps Matt Davidson would have given the Sox a better shot in that situation or a Delmonico, if he was on the roster. May had no chance. Realizing that Leury, Davidson, Delmonico and May are all AAA calibre players.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Well, they both will continue to get at bats on a regular basis while one emerges over the other (one game sample size for each so far is nothing). Ideally, they would both be in the lineup every day because a Frazier or Melky trade happened. Heck, even both. Maybe not. If they traded Frazier I would assume Delmonico would be recalled. The question then would be, who does the organization think has more of a future, Delmonico or Davidson. I am assuming options ultimately made the decision breaking camp.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
SCCWS replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) And ranked Moncada low. But he also ranked him low in 2016 with the Red Sox. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Joy. I'd rather watch Beck, or Danish or pretty much anybody than Pelfrey. Hope he stays in Charlotte. By June, I am hoping our rotation is Q, Rodon, Lopez, Giolito and one of Shields, Gonzo, and Holland. The way the weather is going, we won't need 5 starters till mid-May..........................

POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017
SCCWS replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Tickets are as low as $6 currently...really tempted to go. Hold off another hour and they will pay you $6 to show up. -
Greg: I don't think you will see Moncada in May. I think September is more realistic. His month in Boston last fall was a disaster. I don't think they will rush him since he has never played in AAA. He needs a year to cut down on strike-outs, playing 2nd base again and running the bases. Now I didn't see him in ST but I assume he has progressed and a year in AAA may be all he needs.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) There will be a lot of boos in the Cell this year. There are a lot more fans like me than those who love Sabes and rebuilds. Fans like me will be staying away in droves once the team opens 1-10 and loses at an unprecedented rate. What is proper fan decorum this year? Cheer when the other team scores? And just observe our guys for potential trades? Or cheer for the Sox all the way til the late innings and then root for the other team to rally and win? Somebody needs to explain proper fan decorum this year considering losses are good. Won't go 1-10. Q alone will win at least 2 or 3 of them.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) I'll be there. They finally picked a lane. This is the absolute correct course of action. I'll go my usual 10-15 times. And they have the cheapest tickets in the league. \ In the league???? It will cost more to go to a Charlotte Knights game this year.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) I obviously don't want the prospects to come up and fail but I think you are overstating how much of an impact they will have. The Sox rotation is Q, Shields, Holland, Gonzalez, and Dylan f***ing Covey. They could have the worst team OBP in the mob fairly easily. They have some RH power, an above average bullpen, and a stud starting pitcher. How are they going to score runs? This team is terrible and will get worse as they start subtracting players. I'm not really worried about it because I'm fairly confident this is a bottom 5 team in baseball. Vegas odds say only Padres are a worse team than our Sox.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) How is it a mistake? If he sucks, they DFA him and bring up Delmonico, or whoever else deserves. Or they claim someone from another organization and then DFA Davidson. If Sox are in rebuild mode I would guess they would be aggressive on the waiver wire.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) It needs to be longer for pitchers, and I think it was longer yet this year for the WBC. What they should do is IMO give position players the option of going home for 5 days or a week at some point. You could stagger it a bit, maybe base it's length on service time. Not sure about Arizona, but Spring Training is an economy boom in Florida. New/upgraded stadiums continue to pop-up. Lakeland pumped millions into the Tiger facilities. Braves look like they will head to Fla West Coast for a new stadium being proposed. Pirates have a beautiful stadium in Bradenton. But with the new facilities the prices for some games are more than regular season games in some cities. I paid $75 for second level box seats in Bradenton to see Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) I don't take anything out of spring training good or bad. If they wanted to give Davidson a shot this year, nothing that happened during spring should affect those plans. I disagree. I think defense should be taking seriously. If a guy is really struggling in ST at a position, throwing him into a ML situation is wrong.
