  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Losing Q would push this team into freefall; and losing 2 of the top 3 relievers (Robertson, Kahnle, Swarzak) would accelerate it. But it needs to be done. As for Melky and Frazier, they aren't very productive, are blocking development of younger players, and need to go. Q has won 4 games this year. I don't think trading him woulds turn into a freefall. Now trading the 2-3 relievers would. Hopefully Frazier gets traded but he is not really blocking a young player other than Saladino who I think they have soured on anyway. Delmonico is struggling defensively at AAA and probably needs till September and even then may be forced to DH.
  2. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) They can keep Martes, I'd take Tucker/Fisher and a couple A ball players Now that Fisher is up w Astros, I doubt they will trade him unless he struggles. So far he is doing well. If he is hitting well and they trade him, the rest of the package probably lessens.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) Thats not the offer. The offer is #3 tonight, a lottery pick tonight (probably 10-15 range) and another player. Wrong Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported Thursday that the New York Knicks have asked the Boston Celtics for a hefty return in a potential trade for Kristaps Porzingis. According to Isola, the Knicks asked for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Brooklyn Nets' first-round pick in 2018 and forwards Jaylen Brown and Jae Crowder.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Ian Begley‏ @IanBegley Follow More Sources: BOS offered NYK its No. 3 pick, a player & an additional lottery pick that they think they can acquire tonight in a trade for KP. _________________________________________________________________________________ So Boston seems to be offering the #3 tonight, a top 5 next year and Crowder. Knicks want Brown in addition who was #3 last year. I think 3 top 5 picks for him is too much so I think we see either Brown or next year's pick dropped and a 10-20 pick next year added.
  5. In fairness, he was an average SS in AA and AAA but he didn't spend a lot of time there. I could be wrong, but I thought there was speculation on this board that he could get moved to 2nd before he made the ML roster. Unfortunately, Moncada is ticketed for 2nd now so hopefully one of them will eventually end up in the outfield.
  6. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) Panda, Swihart, Ball, and Owens $15M for Frazier, Swarzak, and the remaining $36M owed to Panda over the next 2.5 seasons. Sox get a few reclamation projects in three former top 100 prospects and can plug Panda in at DH and hope he builds enough value back up to trade again in another year. Red Sox are facing a 40 man roster crunch and this frees two spots for them to add Devers and protect another guy. The more time he spend in AAA, the worse Swihart's hitting gets. maybe a change of scenery can get him turned around. I doubt Red Sox will want Frazier. As I posted previously, they have a band-aid for now, Brock Holt is heading for rehab in AAA and Devers may be 6-8 weeks away.
  7. Listening to their broadcast last night, Devers is tearing up AA and will probably move to AAA very soon. The Panda move seems doomed. Their thought is the Red Sox will not spend much if anything at 3rd at the deadline and will continue w Rutledge/Marrerro and bring up devers in August after 6 weeks in AAA getting adjusted. But Yankees may want Todd for a rental.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Which is why you cant turn your most valuable asset into a guy who right now cant shoot well. There just is a huge difference between Fultz and Jackson. I think this is all meaningless as I dont believe the Bulls will trade Butler for anything less than the type of deal I said above, and I believe the Celts are perfectly happy being the 5th best team in the NBA. They probably are right now. Their rebuild may be 2 years ahead of schedule. Next year they could be the 3rd best team in the league but they are much closer to 6 than 2. They could have 3--1st round picks next year or 2 and 2 the following. They need a legit 5 more than Butler or Hayward but all signs say Hayward and Jackson will be this summer's additions.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) I agree but Boston being in the pitching market should apply pressure on the first place Yankees, who also needs pitching. Boston and NYY have always tried to out do one another through trades and FA signing. If Boston goes out and trades for a starter, you can bet the Yanks will follow suit and have the prospects to easily bring back something better than Boston will get. Those two teams live for competing against one another, on and off the field. True but it depends on the trade they make. Boston and NY may be in a good position to at least make the playoffs. I see Boston acquiring a 4/5 RH starter. Joe Kelly was their fallback but he has developed into an excellent 8th inning reliever. So I doubt they will be giving up much to get one with the market supposedly flodded with those types. So the question is will the Yankees counter w a big splurge or do the same kind of move. Both teams may open up a comfortable gap from the O's and Jays that they will not unload their farm. Now maybe an NL team will if they feel they need a major boost to make the playoffs.
  10. Now that the Sox have corrected his mechanics, let's trade him to Detroit for Iglesias.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) Who would have predicted this statement to be valid about 6 months ago More importantly will it be valid 5 months from now.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) Great game. Q gets run support and shows he can shut down an ALE team. NY/Boston, I hope you watched the highlights. Boston will not trade for Q. They already have 4 lefthanded starters. If they do trade it will be a for RH or swap lefty for righty.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) George likely wouldn't stay in Boston though. Lot of rumors that Jackson of Kansas may be there choice instead of Fultz. If so, George would't happen but Hayward might.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) Right on. I'd take the 280/340 part of that line with any decent pop. So maybe 280/340/430. That would play as a decent starting LF assuming his defense can be averageish. In 6 years in the minors he is hitting .253. So for now, I call him a future .250 hitter not a .280 hitter. He is 24 so certainly there is room for improvement. But recently he is really struggling in Charlotte and his average is dropping fast. Add in his poor glove and I think he needs a lot more time in AAA.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 09:38 PM) I went with Delmonico I think he has 30 HR potential in that bat. Could be an interesting piece. - He is Davidson with a worse glove. I could see 15-20 HR but a .250 hitter who maybe could play 1st or DH.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 01:48 AM) Good post, Lip. Hey Lip, you are a very very smart person so I'll ask you an honest question. Do you trust our front office to draft the right guys and actually put together a consistent winner after 3-4-5 seasons of this crap? Do you trust that the Sox will acquire good prospects/good future players with this current brain trust? Greg: I would slightly change your question. I do think this FO will acquire good prospects. I think the more important question, does the farm system have in place a coaching staff in place to develop positional talent?
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) He should start working out in the corner OF and 1B. Would drastically increase his chances of carving out a MLB career as a platoon bat. With his SO rate, he is not a ML player at any position unless he can pitch.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Like if they get to the point where they need Cody Asche's to be playing every day simply because they don't have bodies, yeah, that's fine, I don't care. When the rotation is something like Rodon, Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito, and Holmberg on August 1st, yeah, I want those guys to take their licks because they need to figure out how to pitch at the MLB level and how to adjust. That's part of growing as a pitcher. Those could be a really ugly two months but still a very important two months developmentally. If they are already at the point where they're putting up sustainable 3.50 ERAs, then great, but I doubt that is going to be the case. Frankly, I'm hoping for something around 12-15 games under around the deadline. It would mean they've played well enough in the month and a half leading up to the deadline that there were positive performances, but it's still pushing the team towards a higher draft position. Also, I think this is where some of it gets lost. I'm sitting here openly saying "I hope they lose more games than they win leading up to the deadline," yet at the same time I'm hoping they win each individual game. It's looking at the immediate results versus the big picture. You can hope they win on a daily basis yet still see the forest for the trees. I think Rodon and Fulmer will be there but I think some combination of Q , Holland and Shields will still be there. I don't see Hahn rushing young pitchers to the majors to take their licks. Some young pitchers never recover from that. I think he will judge who he can rush to the majors and who it may have an adverse effect.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) Jesus someone is obsessed with this. This rebuild but lose is very hard. I guess every time Robertson comes in for a save, I should hope he pitches well but costly errors by players other than those positional players we hope to trade blows the save. Maybe that explains the error problems Anderson seems to be having.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) I've seen more teaching from Renteria in two months than I saw from Robin in 4 years. That may be true but what is he teaching? I saw a video where he had the whole team practicing bunting during the Red Sox series. His love of bunting is scary.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I did say IF. And IF the talent is abundant, it will sort itself out. If Yolmer keeps this up, perhaps it will be Moncada who needs to move - to the outfield. Anyway, the chances of any individual Sanchez, L Garcia et al sticking is greater than the chances of most individual prospects (with the inherent flame out rate of prospects) becoming contributors; none were expected, so it's all a plus. I doubt Moncada moves in the near future. The Red Sox tried him at 3B and it failed. Now 3rd and outfield are different, but I think the Sox will eventually bring him up at 2nd and leave him there till he really settles in offensively and defensively. Maybe in a couple of years he moves to outfield if the need arises. Maybe Yolmer moves to 3rd if he keeps hitting and he can handle the throws.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) The Sox have traded 3 players; the tear-down hasn't even finished. The one area in which the rebuild is ahead of schedule is if Sanchez, Davidson and L Garcia are keepers....certainly so far so good, and their performance would fit on a competitive team. Not sure I totally agree with you. I think Sanchez is a keeper but Moncada will eventually push him off 2nd. Maybe he becomes the utility player. But that might mean Leury will not have a role. So I think one of two has a place in the future as a utility player. Davidson has shown a good power bat but his 40%+ SO rate is way too high. Hopefully over the rest of the season that drops. Avi has become a major plus and solves one OF position if he continues. Anderson's bat is much better than last year so that is a positive.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) No big velocity drop But they said during the Boston gane that his velocity drop over the last few games is 1.5--(93 to 91.5. ). Not a lot but a drop.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Would the Sox want Sale after they crushed him the other night? I doubt the White Sox will trade for Chris Sale. But if you are comparing Swarzak's career to Sale's you may believe that.
  25. QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Putting quintana, abreu and jones in the wait until winter bucket. It starts to look like the only way to get the top 25-125 type guys we have been tracking is to bundle people to the best possible contender. A team seeking a 4/5th starter upgrade and multiple bullpen arms. So positive spin: that is most contending teams by july. Robertson, jennings, migo to WAS for something led by Soto? Swarzak, Frazier, Y. Sanchez to BOS for something led by Groome? Melky, kahnle, holland to STL for kelly? Gut the bullpen, eat money. Add the best prospects possible til q hopefully rebounds in the 2H Doubt Boston wants Swarzak after they crushed him the other night and they won't want Sanchez. But they might want Jones if he comes back strong. But Frazier and Jones won't get Groome. Might get Brian Johnson and a high rated A prospect.
