  1. The Q trade will bring back a starting CF.
  2. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) I'm all for making that argument to whoever the Owner was that vetoed the prospective trade ! Hahn mentioned (in the interview with Chuck Garfein at CSN) that the return package in that proposed deal was constructed similar to the deal for Sale. We can't be sure exactly what he meant, but it sounds like it may have been a deal that was centered around a very highly rated prospect. That is also the impression I git from his other comments in that interview. But if the other teams backed out, should Hahn have asked for a lesser deal? Because using your rationale, the risk of Q having an arm injury is now with the White Sox
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) Swihart has the yips. http://deadspin.com/blake-swihart-appears-...yips-1792495549 Hopefully then Hahn has DD on speed-dial. I am sure we have some guys in camp with the yipes so we trade a guy with the yipes for a guy with the yips. Is Lester's problem the yips or the yipes???
  4. Pitch framing is a topic that has come up especially in relation to Tyler Flowers. Below is an article on Chris Sale and the effect it had on him as well as mention or AJ and Ross. Not a big concern for us until we find our catcher of the future. Another note, looks like Blake Swihart will be odd man out aqain in Boston if White Sox scouts think he is worth a shot. Moved back to catcher full time from Lf but only 24. http://www.providencejournal.com/sports/20...tarting-catcher But after a winter that saw the Red Sox prioritize defense over offense at first base, traditionally an offense-first position, it's easy to imagine them prioritizing defense over offense at catcher. Analysts have pointed out how poor White Sox catchers framed pitches for Chris Sale last year, a potential contributor to a his career-high 3.34 ERA. By giving away strikes at the bottom of the zone last season, Chicago catchers cost Sale 6.3 runs -- a drop in 17 runs from the previous season, a season in which Sale was throwing mostly to well-regarded framer Tyler Flowers. (Flowers tallied 12 framing runs in 2016, sixth-best in baseball, while White Sox catchers Dioner Navarro and Alex Avila were worth minus-19.6 and minus-6.8 framing runs, respectively.) Framing for Sale is no easy task. The same delivery that makes his pitches hard for hitters to see makes it hard for catchers to beat the ball to the spot. Flowers had caught Sale for three seasons, each of which saw him frame pitches better than the previous. "Sale throws a lot of low strikes, so you have to be ready," Leon said. Like any other skill, some catchers frame low pitches better than others. Vazquez has drawn raves from Red Sox pitchers for his ability to keep the ball at the knees. "A.J. Pierzynski was better with high balls," Levangie said. "David Ross was better down in the zone. It depends on their frame at times. It depends where their eye sits and the relationship to the glove."
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) What an odd thing to question. What is wrong with that statement versus any of the other ones Renteria made? I question that because that is one of the questions that surrounded him during his brief stint in Boston.
  6. On Moncada: There are a lot of guys I've seen whose jumps were exponential," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "I think he could potentially be one of those guys. We hope so, as with all of the other young players. "It's a matter of how we present whatever we want to present to him. Hopefully we find the right words and context and show him physically. We can do some things to show him. We've talked about that. He's a bright young man. Wonder what he bases that on???
  7. QUOTE (OnlyGillis @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) He would have had a minimal shot at going north with Boston. They wouldn't keep him around as a utility IF and if Sandoval flops, Holt will play 3B. Plus his call up last year showed how over-matched he was. Agree but they traded Shaw so Sandoval would have been his main competition. If Sandoval stunk again and Moncada had a big spring, it would have been interesting. Holt is a last resort since he is the utility guy ( damn good one). Boston wouldn't care about getting an extra year out of him.
  8. Good thing is this season they can have throwback uniforms again. ..................................except for the Boston series.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 10:56 PM) Moncada has no chance of going north out of camp and Rick Hahn has made this perfectly clear. They will not be giving up a year of control on any of their key young players that aren't already on the major league roster (i.e. Rodon & Anderson). Agree the year of control is probably the key factor. Ironically if he was still in Boston, he had a great shot to make made the ML roster. I would assume Hahn will "assign" someone to work with him if he goes to AAA.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Kopech at #5 is a bit surprising. I also think Fulmer is too high and Hansen is too low. We need a couple of LHP names in the top 10.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) I think alot of people would be more interested if alot of the kids were up and playing. Still way too many veterans in this roster. I for one will be following the minors exclusively this season. Gonna take me back to a young Ace 7-10+ years ago with my FutureSox days or even further than that as a kid going to Barons games. Might have to give my uncle a ring about staying over this summer. You may see some make it out of ST. Hopefully the coaching staff makes good decisions but if Moncada has a solid spring he could go north.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) Seems very odd that the players we think the Sox have targeted have moved up on a lot of these lists ( Meadows, Tucker, Marte, Keller )while the guys they acquired are moving down (Moncada, Giolito). In fairness to Moncada, Benintendi moved up more than he moved down.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) I will end this with Rick Hahn's own words. Let's hope that all the trade talk, fact or fiction, does not have a negative effect on Q. We need him to pitch like a #1 this year until Hahn is able to get what he wants for him.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Unless Levine knows exactly what teams have offered then there's no reason to think the Sox are nuts if they don't trade Q. As for the WBC, I don't think pitching in the WBC is any more of a threat than pitching in ST. Iirc, pitch counts are monitored in the WBC just like ST. Levine must be incredibly bored like the rest of us. Come on baseball, let's get going already! It will getlively pretty quickly as players are already out throwing. I think we will be hearing some Chris Sale quotes very soon as Boston media desends on Florida.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Except Benitendi and Moncada both weren't on the table in July. Also the Red Sox and White Sox situations are very different. The Red Sox called up both but not to play what had been their primary position. Because J. Bradley is elite in CF, Benintendi ended up in LF. Even if Bradley got moved last winter, Betts is considered a better CF than Benintendi so he still would have played a corner. Moncada was forced to move to 3rd. Maybe that was disruptive and contributed to his dismal performance. But if either came to the White Sox they would have been able to play their primary positiom. Certainly with talent being close, a good CF is more valuable than a 2b. I agree w many that Benintendi has a lower ceiling but Moncada still needs work offensively and defensively. Hopefully being back at 2B next week will have a positive impact on his bat and his head.
  16. Harold Reynolds, commenting on Moncada at #2, said he felt he should go north w Sox and learn on the job rather than at AAA. He felt playing in Boston last year should benefit him despite the poor showing because of exposure to guys like Ortiz and Pedroia.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) I think the educated fan can pretty obviously follow the trade market and understand why Sale and Eaton got moved, and why others didn't... And it isn't because the government was behind 9/11. I said way back that Q would not be traded this winter and several educated fans on this site said I was wrong. "Just look at all the rumors" they said. Well I will predict Q will be still w the Sox when spring training opens this week. He also will be with the Sox when the season ends as well.
  18. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Except the product currently on the field is not somewhat competitive, the Sox are a bottom 5 team right now. They may be but they are also in what may be the worse division in baseball this year. So that may keep them competitive until the trade deadline.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 06:06 PM) You can keep telling yourself this, but the Sox are doing a legit rebuild. I didn't say their rebuild is not legit. But it is very strange that they were able to trade their 2 "clubhouse problems" pretty quickly but were not able to move any of the other 23 players on their roster. I think a lot of fans( just look at this thread) expected more trades before spring training . But it looks like the FO may have a much longer timeline for the rebuild than the fans in order to try and keep the product on the field somewhat competitive. That is also a legit rebuild approach.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) True lol we let our hunger blind us. Maybe the FO's idea of a rebuild is not what we fans thought it was.
  21. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) That wasn't my assertion. I said it will be better in some respects. I think Moncada will be up before the AllStar break and possibly before that. I also think that a catching tandem of Soto and Narvaez will not be much worse than what we had last season. I didn't mention Center Field but Austin Jackson was injured early so we might be better off with Charlie Tilson and Bourjous or whoever else makes the roster as a 4th outfielder. The other thing to look at it the competition in the Central. Cleveland is still heavily favored but KC might not be as good (with the notable loss a lock-down Closer) and Minnesota is not looking very strong. Detroit looks like they don't know which way they are going and may start trading off some of their star players. It's all just too early to predict right now, only to guess. So Shields fails. I doubt the Sox keep throwing him out there. They will make a move for another starter or bring someone up for his spot. Renteria is a better Manager than Ventura and that will make a huge difference. Many of these guys were asleep last season. This is why we are done trading. Add another arm, get Moncada to go north from ST and we can compete for a wildcard. Hurry and get a bet down because Vegas odds will soon reflect our optimism.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) I'm excited to see the responses to this one. I really hope Giolito can progress this year, but I hope he's up by June at the very earliest. Not sure if he'll be on an innings limit but that could play a factor as well. My predictions - 4-6, 4.28 ERA, 88 K's, 1.32 WHIP, 8.6 K/9, and 1.8 WAR in 15 starts Need a full year in AAA. Up in September.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) I have no information, but I do think today is a day something happens. If Q reads this board, he has probably spent the last month visiting the team shrink on a daily basis. Hopefully all the Q talk in the media does not affect his mental state when he arrives in ST this weekend.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Dear god, please let him get traded soon... Soon = 2017.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Is it safe to say that Q is on the team until the deadline if he isn't traded before pitchers and catchers report? \ Actually the decision will be based on the deadline for printing the names on the jerseys. That is probably 2/9-2/10. There is no way he is traded after his jerseys are finished.
