  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) Jesus someone is obsessed with this. This rebuild but lose is very hard. I guess every time Robertson comes in for a save, I should hope he pitches well but costly errors by players other than those positional players we hope to trade blows the save. Maybe that explains the error problems Anderson seems to be having.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) I've seen more teaching from Renteria in two months than I saw from Robin in 4 years. That may be true but what is he teaching? I saw a video where he had the whole team practicing bunting during the Red Sox series. His love of bunting is scary.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I did say IF. And IF the talent is abundant, it will sort itself out. If Yolmer keeps this up, perhaps it will be Moncada who needs to move - to the outfield. Anyway, the chances of any individual Sanchez, L Garcia et al sticking is greater than the chances of most individual prospects (with the inherent flame out rate of prospects) becoming contributors; none were expected, so it's all a plus. I doubt Moncada moves in the near future. The Red Sox tried him at 3B and it failed. Now 3rd and outfield are different, but I think the Sox will eventually bring him up at 2nd and leave him there till he really settles in offensively and defensively. Maybe in a couple of years he moves to outfield if the need arises. Maybe Yolmer moves to 3rd if he keeps hitting and he can handle the throws.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) The Sox have traded 3 players; the tear-down hasn't even finished. The one area in which the rebuild is ahead of schedule is if Sanchez, Davidson and L Garcia are keepers....certainly so far so good, and their performance would fit on a competitive team. Not sure I totally agree with you. I think Sanchez is a keeper but Moncada will eventually push him off 2nd. Maybe he becomes the utility player. But that might mean Leury will not have a role. So I think one of two has a place in the future as a utility player. Davidson has shown a good power bat but his 40%+ SO rate is way too high. Hopefully over the rest of the season that drops. Avi has become a major plus and solves one OF position if he continues. Anderson's bat is much better than last year so that is a positive.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) No big velocity drop But they said during the Boston gane that his velocity drop over the last few games is 1.5--(93 to 91.5. ). Not a lot but a drop.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Would the Sox want Sale after they crushed him the other night? I doubt the White Sox will trade for Chris Sale. But if you are comparing Swarzak's career to Sale's you may believe that.
  7. QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Putting quintana, abreu and jones in the wait until winter bucket. It starts to look like the only way to get the top 25-125 type guys we have been tracking is to bundle people to the best possible contender. A team seeking a 4/5th starter upgrade and multiple bullpen arms. So positive spin: that is most contending teams by july. Robertson, jennings, migo to WAS for something led by Soto? Swarzak, Frazier, Y. Sanchez to BOS for something led by Groome? Melky, kahnle, holland to STL for kelly? Gut the bullpen, eat money. Add the best prospects possible til q hopefully rebounds in the 2H Doubt Boston wants Swarzak after they crushed him the other night and they won't want Sanchez. But they might want Jones if he comes back strong. But Frazier and Jones won't get Groome. Might get Brian Johnson and a high rated A prospect.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) That's it. His OPS is .667; his batting average is .184. That's August waiver deal at best. He makes $12 million; he will take a big pay cut next season...probably one of those 1 year deals to recoup value. The Red Sox won't care about the money. But their options are the return of Panda, promoting Devers or picking up a guy like Frazier. Hopefully Panda poops and they think Frazier's swing would fit in Fenway.I doubt they give up Swihart. More likely cash and a good A prospect.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Keeping Quintana doesn't make any sense. They need the prospects that they will ultimately get in return for him. People keep talking about 2019 but the Sox don't have many long-term answers as far as position players go. Where are those guys coming from? They are banking on Moncada, Anderson, Robert, and Collins. What if a couple of them bust though? They need to keep adding. Quintana will need a new contract by the time the Sox are good again so I just don't think keeping him makes any sense and I also don't know how this team is playoff ready in 2019. Agree that the position player inventory is low. But every rebuilding team must supplement their roster with free agents as well. Maybe the trading of guys like Jones, Robertson, Abreu etc will add more young talent to fill the void if Q can't be moved for enough talent.
  10. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ May 31, 2017 -> 02:42 AM) He's had a lot of good starts this year not sure I understand the sky is falling sentiment. Yes he's had some really bad ones to go along with that but to me that points to inconsistent mechanics, tipping pitches, etc. If I'm Hahn I am trying to extend an additional 2 years before his option years kick in. He can be a valuable piece in a stacked rotation when our window opens. But if his fastball has lost some velocity as the Globe writer said last night, maybe the stint w Columbia screwed up his training schedule.
  11. QUOTE (reiks12 @ May 30, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) If he can get back to his old self he still provides good value to the tail end of our rebuild. With Robert being signed and Robertson having a tremendous first half (likely will get a good prospect at least), there is less pressure to deal Quintana imo. In fairness, he must have been affected by the Sale return tonight. But a Boston Globe writer said in the last month, his fastball is down 1-1.5 MPH over his norm. 92-93 to 91-92.
  12. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 28, 2017 -> 09:50 PM) ? No. My concern is Red Sox offense will be motivated to back Sale on his return home. That would be at Q's expense. If it happens, his ERA could get another jolt. That is exactly why I didn't want this match-up.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 29, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) Anytime you can get a win with a fill-in pitcher starting the game because there is no one else available is a good thing. It doesn't happen very often. Every time you beat the Red Sox is a Holiday. The ghost of Johnny Buzhardt was in the pen today.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 28, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) ? The only number he could improve is "W". ? No. My concern is Red Sox offense will be motivated to back Sale on his return home. That would be at Q's expense. If it happens, his ERA could get another jolt.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 26, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) I would too. Probably be a sell out crowd but do you think the Sox management would do it? inst I hope not. Boston is really hot right now and obviously Sale is dominating the league. I think Q gets a better shot to improve his numbers against one of their weak starters.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) Who f***ing cares if this guy goes back to wherever the hell he came from? There's no "there" there. He's former 1st round pick in the same sense Beckham is a former first round pick at this point. At least Gordo has some initial success, Covey was never even good in the minors of MLB. Anyways, it's sad to say but I'm excited to probably see Fulmer and/or Lopez within the next couple weeks. Neither has dominated AAA but at least they have the potential of being a 3rd or 4th starter. Just a guess, but I think Lopez. Fulmer has given up a lot of home runs so far.
  17. QUOTE (balfanman @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) Maybe that's why he's bunting so often. I'm sure he knows that this team is going nowhere for the next couple of seasons and he's trying to not only instill some fundamentals, but determine who he can count on to lay down a proper bunt when the games start to matter. It could also be a method of determining which players they would prefer to trade or keep for when the team does get good. I think ST is a much better place to have bunting drills than in a regular season game.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2017 -> 12:56 AM) I hate Northside (just a bit) for hyping him for so long. He hits in Charlotte, but by god he's terrible at the big league level. Charlotte stats must be taken w a grain of salt. Jacob May is hitting over .300 at Charlotte since being sent down. Those "aluminum" bats do wonders for hitters...............................
  19. QUOTE (zisk @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) does anyone think that the huge improvement in avi and yolmer this season has something to do with renteria instilling confidence in their abilities? I don't know if it is, but some people have a knack for inspiring others. p.s. I'm enjoying this season more than any season in many years. good vibes. Does anyone think that the lack of improvement in Anderson and Saladino have anything to do with Renteria distilling confidence in their abilities?? As I posted yesterday, Anderson struggled in the 1/2 spots. So Renteria finally dropped him to 7 and he caught fire. At which point he moved him back to 1 and he went hitless. Luckily he moved him back to 7 again. The kid must feel like a yoyo
  20. Step 3 in the rebuild
  21. Just one complaint. Anderson was really struggling hitting at the top of the order. So a smart move, he goes down to the 7 spot and is tearing it up. So Renteria moves him back up top and he goes 0-5.
  22. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 18, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) I don't understand why Moncada is not at least exploring the possibility of playing Center Field or third base. His cup of tea in Boston at 3rd did not go well. I think 2nd gets him to majors quicker
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:49 PM) I've always liked ol' Carlos Sanchez, but he ain't stopping Moncada from doing ANYTHING. That is obvious. But it may create different possibilities for the Sox if Yolmer continues to hit the ball.
  24. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ May 17, 2017 -> 02:33 AM) Sanchez is a utility player was a AAAA type player until his hot streak. Ride him until he goes cold then it's Delmonico time. Delmonico has a major defensive problem so far in AAA
  25. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 12, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Starting to watch less and less of these games, and when I actually do watch, the more I fantasize about a dominant rotation consisting of Quintana, Rodon, Lopez, Giolito/Kopech, and Fulmer, and a lineup consisting of the star Moncada, an Anderson who has figured things out, an April 2017 Avi, an August Abreu, a healthy speedy Charlie Tilson, a nice surprise in Basabe, a 40 homerun hitter in Davidson, an amazing defensive catcher in Collins, etc etc. The future is bright folks. Remain patient. Patience is key. I like the looks of this 2019/2020 lineup: Moncada, Anderson, Abreu, Avi, DH?, Davidson, Basabe?, Collins?, Tilson After last night, Leury has taken over SS for the rebuild................
