QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) Haha even when he gets a cheap hit he makes a stupid play. Might be time for him to realize other teams have scouting reports Actually it has been so long since he got on base, he didn't know what to do. -

QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 07:24 PM) This to me is Robin Ventura and the coaching staff. Year after year.. different players and they all look like they are pressing up there. I think "Just grind it out" isn't working. So Abreu laughing at the plate and then after reaching first is pressing??? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) I have to watch just to see Coats suddenly certified as being able to play CF when all along he's been a corner OF. This is going to be like Jermaine Dye in center. Also, Shields/Porcello is Thursday, not tmrw. Is Thursday an afternoon or night game? LF and CF are very difficlut to play in Boston because of the angles and the wall. RF is a bad sun field. Coats may earn his stripes this series. -
Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) I heard a stat that Francona has had a +.500 record in 11 straight seasons - but hey, don't worry - you don't need experience. Ask Robin. As much as I love AJ - and I think he could be a good manager. Blunt, honest, firery, smart, been a long, long time catcher - I just don't want the Sox to hire him. Give me someone with experience please. Or a fresh mind set. I'm completely done with this team - like done done. Awful Francona had a losing record his first 4 years as a manager. So with your logic, Robin had a winning reocrd in at least one of his 1st 4 so he is ahead of Francona's pace. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Hopefully he figures something out and silences his critics. We will see what happens on Thursday. We do know any Red Sox kept out of the line up isn't going to be happy with Farrell. Maybe Big Game James will shock the world and be decent. They need offense. 2 runs each game in Cleveland. I thought, or at least hoped Hahn had something up his sleeve and the offense would get a boost for that series. But scoring 2 a game isn't going get you wins, and frankly I would rather the Sox lose 13-2 than 3-2. Due to insurance concerns, the Red Sox have posted signs advising fans not to park in the lot behind the left field wall for Thursday's game. In addition, sidewalks along the street behind the wall have been declared a hard-hat only zone.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) One problem. The average Fenway game time is about 3 hours, 40 minutes. Forget 8:30. Try 915-930, although, with the way the White Sox have been playing, 830's way too conservative in terms of the game being close to over. ???? Average White Sox game is 3.04. Average Red Sox game is 3.12. Red Sox have longer innings w their offense. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) Totally agree with everything here. His doubters forget that he just turned 23, basically went straight to the pros and he's only been starting at the ML level for a little over a year. He's been having an impressive season and has made big strides with his control. He has a very high ceiling. You are easily impressed. His era is up by .50 over last season and he has given up 11 HR in 13 games . He gave up 11 home runs in 26 games last year. His control is much better resulting in fewer walks. But agree he is only 23 and has a high ceiling if he can cut down on those high fly balls over the fence.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:19 AM) Honestly Q is super valuable but to land Moncada++ its going to take something like Sale + Jones. That should get you the majority of their upper level prospects and a "throw in" or two. I could see a package like this Trade Chris Sale & Jones to the Red Sox for C Blake Swihart, 2B Yoan Moncada, OF Andrew Benintendi, RHP Anderson Espinoza, LHP Kyle Martin & 3B Pablo Sandoval with Boston picking up 48.5 of his remaining 57 mil including his buy out. If the sox are going to have a fire sale there going to need someone to play 1B and maybe they can get Sandoval to re-establish some of his value, they'd be responsible for 8.5 over 2 years, with the option to exercise the club 17m option if he turns it around. He needs to roughly be worth 1WAR over the course of 2 seasons. DUMB. None of those are everyday ML players right now. So you would trtade sale who is a Top 5 player in baseball for 5 ML players some of whom may never even make it to the bigs. Foe example, Swihart was their highly rated catching prospect who didn't make their team this season and got sent down to learn the outfield. He is back up playing the outfield due to an injury and still struggling. Any trade to Boston should start w Betts or Bradley who are both everyday ML players.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) Trading Sale would be a franchise changing move. The Dodgers and Red Sox have stacked systems and could use the pitching. Wrong. At least not now. Sale is a top 5 pitcher in baseball. You do not trade him for minor league talent. You trade him for ML talent. Neither of those teams are likely to trade ML talent while they are contending this year. But if neither makes the playoffs, then you can get ML talent in the off-season. For example, if I am trading w Boston I want Betts or Bradley in a package. They are not going to trade them while they are contending right now.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) This team has more than one problem honestly. Front office, ownership, players, evaluators. All is a problem. Agree. But I know a good place to start. A few weeks ago there was talk the Red Sox and White Sox were both interested in Shields. Obviously both scouted his last few starts in SD. But the Boston papers reported the Red Sox dropped out of the chase because they felt Shields would not be able to pitch in a hitters park like Fenway. Obviously the White Sox scout was not as concerned. I say fire him and offer the Red Sox scout an offer he cannot refuse.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) LV, that might have worked 25 years ago, or certainly in the age of Veeck. Today, season ticket sales are only 20-30% of revenue for mostly MLB teams....and the White Sox are guaranteed XXX amount in state subsidies if attendance falls below a certain threshold. Finally, you have the fact that a lot of corporations buy season tickets for entertaining clients and use them as a tax write off for entertainment/business purposes...so even if you could get 50% of the individual season ticket buyers on board, you'd still have only a 25% effect from a practical standpoint. Would that be enough to lower the value of the franchise or pressure the Reinsdorfs to sell? Probably not, they'd likely be more stubborn and intransigent in the face of such a rebuke from their customers, since they always ACT like they know best anyway and aren't very much concerned with the opinions of fans on how they run the organization. Not as much now-a-days. Without getting too technical, it is more difficult for a company to write off entertainment tickets. Speaking from experience, I often was offered tickets to sporting events from companies. But rarely did the company take me as opposed to giving out tickets to use. Corporate tickets are only allowed to be written off if the event involves a "business meeting" ( i.e. a company rep present). So corporate boxes and food provided tend to be easier to write off over grandstand tickets. But I am under the impression the White Sox do not have a large number of corporate tickets which is why they get some significant swings in attendance numbers based on the game. I disagree on the wildcard. I think both will come from AL east. I do think KC could take the Central over Cleveland but only one from Central will make it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Lincecum's line today: 6 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB's, 2 K's For 1/5th or 1/6th of the price of Shields. Much better for marketing purposes as well. But Shields is a great guy in the dugout.....................Unfortunately he only stays in it an inning or so.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 02:18 AM) Shuck isn't good enough to play RF, but he's good enough to play CF. -- Robin Logic PS: Showcasing him be damned, Robin needs to win games, not try to trick people in to thinking Avi is a decent outfielder. HUH???? Baseball 101. Robin would not be showcasing him , Hahn would. If he is being played to showcase, that decision is made at the GM level

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) The Sox have lost something like 9 series in a row. The team has lost some of the most bizarre ways in club history. The team has not hit, has not pitched in the five week stretch. It is not a stretch to conjecture Rollins has to be glad to be out of Chicago. I don't agree. Rollins has 2 small children so having to find a new team after only 2 months in Chicago could be very disruptive to a young family. You may think it is a like video game but there are family issues involved in many of these changes. Hopefully it works out for him.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) I truly think as dumb as it sounds, that Avi is being showcased somehow. Ventura would give him multiple days off in a row at DH. Now he plays every day in the OF with a better defender on the bench. It really doesn't make any sense. Maybe, but Avi leade the White Sox in batting average w runners in scoring position. He is hitting .375. That is clutch.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) Shields is doing his part to get Robin fired. And if he keeps this up, he might get Hahn fired too. Actually you can't blame Robin or even Coop for Shields. You have to solely blame Hahn or Kenny for bringing him in. Now it is obvious why the Red Sox backed away.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) The Ventura/Coop/KW era cannot come to end soon enough. You forgot Hahn. Supposedly this is his roster. If it is KW's then I agree w you. I assume you are happy w the offense??? I would include Steverson and Buddy Bell if they can find him. In fact throw in Herb Schneider. He has contributed to the downfall by keeping lousy players healthy.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Every team has a flawed roster, well 30 or so do. It's up to the manager to maximize the good and minimize the flaws over the course of a long season. Which means flaws play sometimes. Yes, but the question is how flawed. Most fans thought this team was a .500 to plus 4-5 team. Not a playoff team. They entered the season w questions about 2 of the 5 starters. In addition SS, 2B, catcher and RF were all questionable as well. The bullpen looked solid. Flaws do play but too many means they don't play postseason. The GM( Hahn/Williams) constructed a mediocre team and Robin has kept it mediocre.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 01:09 AM) Isn't ventura in his last year? Less than 1% chance they fire him. He won't be back next year that's a given. I hope I would agree. I also think the blame is just as much on the GM ( whoever that really is) for giving Robin a flawed roster. Danks, Rollins, an awful bench, etc are all on poor decisions made going into the season. Bur regardless , it is time to move on from Robin. But now rather than wait. Test drive Renteria when games mean something. Then after the season, they can at least have a feel for what direction he may take the team. It is really a free sample for 4 months. My only concern is GM. If a change is coming there, want that person selecting his own manager.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) This is the only place where the word loyal is a four letter word. In most places it's a good thing. Who is loyal??? Is JR loyal??? He allowed his GM to fire Thobodeau. Maybe Hahn/KW are the ones who are loyal. Maybe JR is loyal to Robin becuase he played here.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) Well said but cubz fans and at least one guy trying to inject his politics like to troll with that nonsense. No politics intended. Here is the link for a White Sox "Castro" hat http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-NWT-CHICAGO-W...m-/371440576478

QUOTE (GhostofDickeyKerr @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) Good news: One step closer to Montreal. Too cold. Havana w Abreu is a natural. Obama gave Castro a White Sox cap when he visited.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) Right getting them over, a baseball play. It doesn't mean he was sacrificing. He was trying to get a hit. Like when there is a guy on second and nobody out, and hitters try to hit it to the right side. They want to make sure at the very least the runner gets to 3rd. They aren't sacrificing. Melky was trying to bunt for a hit, and at the very least advance the runners.who knows if it cost the team runs, but it did have the same effect as if he had hit a ball caught at the wall and the runners advanced. I guess what it does say is that Melky was trying to help the team in his mind. So to those who think some players on Sox are "selfish", we can exclude Melky. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) what a horribly designed lineup. 1. Eaton 2. Abreu 3. Cabrera 4. Frazier 5. Shuck 6. Lawrie 7. Avila 8. Garcia 9. Anderson it should be... 1. Eaton 2. Cabrera 3. Abreu 4. Frazier 5. Garcia 6. Lawrie 7. Shuck 8. Anderson 9. Avila I disagree w your lineup. No you want Anderson in front of the top of the order not Avila. No you want Melky between Abreu and Frazier but I would rather they be 3-4-5. I guess until Anderson is comfortable they really don't have a real #2. Hey maybe throw the names in a hat and let Frake pull them. -
